Hampton teen arrested for soliciting clown to kill teacher

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) — A 13-year-old Hampton girl is in police custody today for allegedly reaching out to a person on social media to kill one of her teachers.

Police say the person she contacted was using a clown image as their profile picture as well as their alias. She allegedly reached out to this person to murder a teacher at Davis Middle School.

“The profile that she contacted actually was using a clown as a profile picture and also using a clown related alias,” Officer Ashley Jenrette of Hampton Police said.

According to police, a dispatchers received a call Sunday evening about a threat being made on social media.

The 13-year-old girl arrested in this case has been charged with threatening to kill by electronic message. She is still being held in police custody.

Breaking: Clown gunned down in Indiana

FORT WAYNE, INDIANA – A man dressed as a clown was shot on the city’s south side midday Sunday. The shooting was reported just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday at 4801 Plaza Dr.

Fort Wayne police were called just after 10:30 p.m. Sunday to an address at 4701 Plaza Dr., near Standish Street just south of McMillen Park, on a report of a shooting there. When police arrived they found a man in a clown costume shot in his head in critical condition.

Joyner said he doesn’t know why people are dressing as clowns, but he said he suspects fear is a factor across the city.

“I just think it’s crazy. People better take those clown mask off… before the coroner does,” Wright said.

FEAR: Schools ban clown costumes, other "symbols of terror" ahead of Halloween

NEW HAVEN, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut school district is banning clown costumes and any "symbols of terror" during this year's Halloween season as authorities investigate the authenticity of a number of clown-related social media posts.

New Haven Public School officials said Monday principals and building leaders have been requested to ban the costumes until additional information is available.

This comes amid an investigation involving police into an account on the photo-sharing social media site Instagram. The account uploaded four photos showing menacing-looking clowns with captions telling several area schools to "watch out" and "wait and see" whether the alleged threats are fake.

School officials say there's no indication the incident poses any real threat to students at this time.

They put a nearby school on lockdown because there was a clown standing in the park next to the school here in Chicagoland..
