October 10, 2007 - French director Xavier Gens is making his stateside feature filmmaking debut with 20th Century Fox's videogame-to-film Hitman but will the cut that's released in theaters this Thanksgiving be a watered down take on the notoriously violent Eidos game? One report claims it will be, while our sources say it ain't so.

According to TwitchFilm.net, "Fox has yanked control" of the film away from Gens due to the graphically violent nature of the cut that he delivered. The site claims "apparently after seeing Gens' cut of the film the studio removed him from the project and placed Nicolas De Toth in control of a new edit of the film."

TwitchFilm's source informed the site that De Toth, who re-cut Live Free or Die Hard to earn a PG-13 rating, is expected to deliver a "bloodless version of the film assembled with no input whatsoever from Gens."

Studio sources confirmed that De Toth has been hired as an editor, but not "controlling the project" as TwitchFilms stated. "Director Xavier Gens is still working on the film. The film still has intense action and will definitely be rated 'R.'" Our source strongly denied that Fox is softening the final cut and called the original report untrue. They emphasized that it will still be a true "R" and a not a "bloodless version".
