Stephen King writes....er has written many of the greatest horror books of all time. That being said, many of them have been mangled into HORRIBLE movies, some good, but most weren't. Im thinkin this thread is about Horror in general, not just movies. So that gives Stephen King a little more clout in that respect.
Still that being said: EDGAR ALLEN POE did more for the genre than anyone did or can ever do again, just my opinion tho. |

Well the question was "If horror is religion then who would be God?" so we kind of assumed we were talking about horror in general I guess.

yeah i guess you have apoint.....but i thought movies......oh well

as far as horror movies, I wouldn't go for Stephen King either cuz when it comes to getting involved with movies, Stephen King isn't all that good. He's better as a writer. I have no clue who the god of horror movies is...

i said it once ill say it again
George Romero is god |
Hitchcock and William Friedkin. Both directed great horror movies (Hitchcock with Psycho among others, Friedkin with The Exorcist) that, while staying 100% true to the horror genre, were good enough to transcend just being great horror movies and be considered great movies in general. Sure, if looked at from a certain perspective this might hinder their being considered "God of horror", but a lot of the other people mentioned, while loved within the horror community, are looked down upon in general cinema. People in the horror community, for the most part, love Psycho and The Exorcist. This is also true for people outside the horror community, even people who don't like horror. People who've tried to do that on purpose (Most Scream-style movies) have failed miserably. These attained that status because of quality. Who else can claim that they've made a movie that good? So those are my picks. Hitchcock and Friedkin.

I think I can agree with those. John Carpenter would be a good addition as well. Even Ebert loved Halloween. |
