The problem is the egotistical attitude that some posters have. Not only in this particular thread, but in others, as well. |

Do note that all the replies in this thread have been based on constructive criticism, and not on bashing up on a new member. I am sure all the members who have posted in here are merely trying to show a person who is not much knowledgeable about horror movies in general (since he is 14 and has started watching em only NOW) the true essence of being a horror movie lover. Dont go criticising people on the basis of your own assumptions. Because most likely, they are bound to go wrong. |

There have been some excellent suggestions made in this thread already for you, Aud. I will summarise them together and try to classify it as best as I can...in your "recent" terms... If you are into the atmospheric, creepy stuff, with horror and chills in the end...I recommend House on Haunted Hill (the new one), Dog Soldiers, The Thing, Prince of Darkness, The Omen (original), The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Poltergeist, From Dusk Till Dawn, Pitch Black, Resident Evil, The Eye, Ju-On (original, NOT The Grudge). If you delve into the comic part of horror, suggestion comes in the form of Eight Legged Freaks, Shaun of the Dead, Slither, Dead Alive, Ghostbusters, Gremlins, Re-Animator series, Evil Dead II & Army of Darkness. If you like slashers, watch Halloween, Friday the 13th pt. I, II, III (for starters) Se7en, Maniac, Intruder, Scream, Final Destination, The Devil's Rejects, Cube, Cube Zero. If you like gore and monsters, I ll recommend Pumpkinhead, Ginger Snaps, Candyman, Evil Dead, Demons, Nightmare on Elm Street, Alien, Aliens, Predator, The Hidden. While you are at it, be sure to watch Battle Royale. That is one movie I am sure you will dig. If you want more suggestions, toss me a PM and I ll be more than glad to be of help. One thing I can gurantee you, you wont be BORED watching any one of those movies listed above. |

Yeah, I've been wanting to watch Cube and Cube Zero for quite some time now (I heard Cube 2 was really dum). I've also seen all of the Final Destination movies and thought they were awsome. I'm not really into the comic horror (I've seen Gremlins and Shaun of the Dead). I've also seen Gingersnaps and some of the Aliens, And I have to say I don't like Monster movies. It's probably because I like to relate to the movie sort of (ie. what would I do if I was there?). Can't really do that since I don't believe in monsters. I also don't really like what I call "Swat horror movies". It's basically where the main characters are part of the S.W.A.T or some kind of force where they have tons of equipment and guns. An example of this is House of the Dead 2, and Dog Soldiers kind of sounds like a "Swat horror movie". Really the only ones I'm looking forward too are the Friday the 13th Series, possibly Nightmare on Elms Street Series, the Halloween Series, and the Cube series. |
my formula for good horror has been to work through the HDC top 100 and alternate top100 until i find something i like, then to inquire from others members if its worth a watch. give this a go to try to compile a healthy stock of key movies before you expand into the niche areas.
