If it's by accident then it would be exceptable but for them to purposely grip, aim and fire a weapon at someone is ridiculous(with the exception of bub who learned from observing the action of the doctor) considering they're mindless and only follow the instinct to eat, but It's been proven 3 times over that Romero knows what he's doing when it comes to zombie films so if he says they can evolve and use guns who the hell am I to tell the guy who made Night of the Living Dead otherwise.

Thats kind of what i was thinking. Like it or not, he is the reason we have canniballistic hordes of zombies as a genre.

Look folks, running zombies are nothing new OK? there was running zombies that existed before on film before " 28 Days Later" and " Dawn of the Dead" ( 2004), there was Umberto Lenzi's "Nightmare City" ( a.k.a. City of the Walking Dead, Incubo Sulla Citta Contamina) that was the beginning of the running zombies but not only did the mutant cruddy faced zombies in that movie ran but they also weild weapons like machine guns, suck blood like vampires and also drove cars. There was even " Return of the Living Dead 1 & 3", " Lifeforce" ( not much of a true vampire flick but more of a zombie and alien flick), "Zombi 3", " Dead Heat ( 1988)" and " The Stuff" that had zombies that ran fast too!

Anyone seen those movies especially Nightmare City? if not, then you must see them to see that zombies that run and weild weapons existed before.

Good points, gelf, but for the most part, the average horror.com forum member is a "Romeroesque" traditionalist. We like our zombies slow, stupid, and predictable.

I gotta tell ya, it is bizarre to think of Romero zombie fans as "traditionalists," but it's true.

This whole running zombie thing, though, I think it is a degeneration of the horror genre, overall. Faster must be scarier, right? and since we're in a hurry, we can't very well wait for a zombie to grab someone; might as well speed up the process.

Remember that "mummies" used to be the same way. Generally they were slow too, and what was scary about them was that if they were after you they NEVER stopped; they just kept on keeping on, so to speak.

I don't think zombies, should be able to use guns, although if they found one lying around and picked it up im sure they could fire it.... they'd probably just end up putting a bullet in their own skull though

Gelflingboy 06-07-2005 07:10 AM

Uuugh, has anyone here even seen Nightmare City? or any of those running zombies i mentioned like Lifeforce, Zombi 3, Return of the Living Dead 1 & 3 and The Stuff?
