How do you connect it to your computer (ie what cable/interface)? And what software do you use to transfer your video to your PC?

I can connect with Firewire or USB, but neither works with Vista yet. In XP, I was using Movie Edit Pro 11, but that also is not compatible with Vista (However, I was aware of that beforehand.) IF my camera had been able to work with Vista, I wasn't gonna really do anything with it until I bought a new editing program anyways, but I may have sent some video to Windows Movie Maker just to test the connection out.

Contact the company who made your camera and ask them when they are releasing Vista-compatible drivers. This is the exact reason I'm going to wait a couple months before buying a new computer.

It's a Sony Handycam. If I expected any company to be on top of this, Sony would be one of the ones at the top on my list.

Everyone's gonna need it eventually. Might as well get it early and get more use out of it before it too becomes an obsolete operating system.

We're all sitting around waiting for the same things at this point, but at least I have Vista (and the minute amount of benefits it offers over XP) between now and then. I don't see the point in waiting really...

What model of HandyCam is it?

Did you try installing the drivers that came with it, or did you plug it in and see if Windows had the drivers?

You could try and download the free trial of Adobe Premiere Elements (I think the current version is V3.0) and see if that helps.

I have a panasonic camcorder - windows vista had the drivers to recognise it when I plugged it in via Firewire (should use this over USB for camcorders), but Premiere Elements v2.0 gets an error trying to control the camcorder

If all else fails, you could dual boot XP and Vista on that machine if you have an old XP install disc - use it until there are vista drivers for your camcorder.

It's a Sony Handycam DCR-TRV280. The only software it came with was SOny Picture Package (which is also the installation disc.)

I'll try to figure out if Sony has some sort of patch I can download to make this gel. If I do figure it out, I'll post here since some of you may find it useful info too.

Yahtzee! I figured it out. It was nothing too hard either, I'm just not very savvy when it comes to tech issues. After about an hour of farting around (30 minutes the other day, 30 today) I finally got it installed and working. :)

The website says that your camera is compatible. Did you just plug it in with firewire and vista recognised it/installed it's own drivers? That's the way it worked with my camcorder.
