I think that music as a whole has gone right in the shitter, way too much crossover crap, from metal to country to pop its all horrible. The emphasis is now on making some catchy tune that the sheeple will like and making sure that the band looks good. It doesnt matter if they have a lick of talent. Its all about marketing and making money it isnt about music anymore.

Jesus Lizard anyone?

All I listen to is old 80s metal, there really isnt much out there that peaks my interest anymore with very few exceptions.

But Modest Mouse is good, I knew of them way before the hype.
Same here...and it almost sucks that they shed their independent status, but oh well.

But regarding the topic...I really don't think anyone is force-fed music. What you listen to is your choice. Just don't turn on the damn radio or watch gay-ass MTV. QUICK NOTE: When the HELL did VH1 become cooler than MTV? lol.

Anyway, based on the bands you listed...you may wanna check out some of the following:

Polyphonic Spree (too happy for me...but they are original and Bowie is a big supporter).

The White Stripes (rock n roll revisited...not my type of genre, but you may like it because it is no frills rock).

Modest Mouse (as discussed)

Velvet Revolver (again, not my thing...but you may dig it just based on the fact you listen to STP).

Audioslave (see Velvet Revolver; lead singer post-Sound Garden).

Hot Hot Heat (very catchy & 80s-esque).

At the Drive-In (A personal fav, very good shit).

The Blood Brothers (I encourage everyone to listen to this mess! One of the most unmistakable styles you'll ever hear. It's so odd and hard that it even annoys myself sometimes! lol. I can just imagine what the old folk think when they hear me drive by with this shit blasting)!

As long as they didn't shed their "Not shit" status, I don't care
