He has no idea where Tony Stark will have ended up, post-Avengers in 2012, but Jon Favreau has confirmed that he wants to continue Iron Man's solo outings when the team-up dust has settled.

He told MTV that he sees The Mandarin as Robert Downey Jr's next major adversary.

"You've got to do The Mandarin", says the director, who has been teasing this in the films already with tiny references to the Ten Ring organisation, "but the problem is, the way he's depicted in the comic books... you don't want to see that."

The way he's depicted in the comic books is basically as a dastardly Chinaman, a la Fu Manchu. He's a scientific genius, descended from Genghis Khan, whose martial arts prowess makes him capable of taking on the armoured Stark with his bare hands (although at one point he lost his memory and became a cleaner at Stark Enterprises).

An IGN poll last year ranked him the 81st greatest comic book villain of all time. So he's above Carnage and Mysterio, but 79 paces below The Joker.

He gets his power from ten magical rings, which Favreau concedes is a problem in his highly tech-based Iron Man universe. But with that universe expanding to include the supernatural Thor, he reasons "maybe introducing magic won't seem out of place" after all.

Iron Man 2 is currently dominating the world's box office. Iron Man 3... is a long way off.

Jon Favreau has talked again about the status of Iron Man 3, stating that the threequel will be a continuation of the big screen adventures of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and The Avengers.

While promoting his new movie Cowboys & Aliens, the director discussed how the story of Iron Man 3 would be entirely dependent on the fall-out of the other Marvel movies coming out next year.

“Kevin Feige, who’s been involved with superhero movies with Marvel movies since the X-Men films, is very aware of his path and how to weave [things together],” says Favs.

“So in theory, Iron Man 3 is going to be a sequel or continuation of Thor, Hulk, Captain America and Avengers… This whole world… I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.”

This much we pretty much already knew, but it’s good to hear it from the horse’s mouth.

Though Favreau is still yet to fully commit to a third Iron Man, we assume he’ll need to get started on a script soon if he wants to avoid a repeat of Iron Man 2 – which was criticised by audiences for not having a strong enough story.

Iron Man 3 is scheduled for release on 3 May, 2013.

Now that The Avengers is steamrolling through the BOs worldwide, garnering big points from geeky fans and critics alike, it's time we had this thread as a forerunner to the next installment in the franchise.

As we speak, Iron Man 3 and Thor 2 are already in development, with scheduled releases in 2013. Here's the latest on both of them :-

Though all eyes have been on Iron Man 3 as of late with that film going into production imminently, Marvel is also set to start filming another superhero pic later this year: Thor 2.

Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Idris Elba and Tom Hiddleston are all set to return, and after an extensive director search that saw Patty Jenkins join and subsequently drop out of the project, Game of Thrones staple Alan Taylor is set to take the helm. As that production looms closer, we now have our first new casting addition and it’s a biggie: Mads Mikkelsen will be playing the villain.

http://collider.com/thor-2-sequel-mads-mikkelson/168584/

We recently reported that Mads Mikkelsen (Casino Royale) would be joining Tom Hiddleston as a baddie in Thor 2, so Iron Man 3 went ahead and added their own firepower.

In this case, “Firepower” is actually the villain that Ashley Hamilton (Sunset Beach) is in talks to play. In the Marvel universe, Hamilton’s character was the pilot of a “power suit” prototype built by the government (likely, S.H.I.E.L.D.) under the codename “Project: Firepower.” And we all know that, once you’ve strapped on a suit of battle armor, it doesn’t take too long before you challenge Tony Stark/Iron Man himself (Robert Downey Jr.).

So, will we see other sequels as well (like Captain America 2 scheduled for a 2014 release, Nick Fury's own standalone movie, etc.), and a possible Amazing Spider-Man link-up to The Avengers 2 as well? Admit it, even a cameo by Spidey will add a lot of fireworks to the already turbo-charged lineup.

And finally, will there (finally) be an introduction of The Wasp?

Oh, and what about that Ant-Man movie?

Questions, to which we shall find the answers in the days to come.

They should include the Wasp since she was one of original Avengers. And Spider-Man because, well, it's Spider-Man, it's awesome, and he was part of the Avengers once, if I recall correctly.
I think there's also a new Hulk movie planned. I'm curious to see Iron-Man 3 and Thor 2, if they are as good as the prequels I am going to love them. I have yet to see Captain America though.

I guess again there will be a cameo of Nick Fury at the end of the new Spider-Man movie. Though I've nothing to complain about the current team (movie) of Avengers but yeah...they should have add Wasp & Ant-Man as far the original comic book series goes. Who knows...they may add some events in the sequel which would force Black Widow & Hawkeye to leave the group & make the spots for Wasp & Ant!? ;)

Iron Man 3 update - No Iron Patriot in the Film, but the Patriot Armor does indeed belong to a character. Plus pics from the set, of Gwyneth Paltrow, Robert Downey Jr, Guy Pearce & Jon Favreau:-

Thor 2 update - THOR 2 Recruits Zachary Levi for the Warriors Three.

Not all of the Warriors Three will be returning for Thor 2. While Volstagg (Ray Stevenson) and Hogun (Tadanobu Asano) will be reprising their roles as two of the warriors from Thor, Fandral (Josh Dallas) apparently will not. Dallas’ prior commitments to the ABC series, Once Upon a Time, will prevent him from joining the sequel. So reports have it that Marvel is looking to ex-secret agent super-spy, Zachary Levi (Chuck) to fill the role.

Captain America 2 update :-

Anthony Mackie is in talks to team up with Chris Evans for Captain America: The Winter Soldier, possibly as the Falcon.
One of the very first African-American superheroes and a regular partner for Captain America, in the comic books the Falcon (a.k.a. Sam Wilson) has an ability to communicate with his falcon Redwing, as well as fly via a specialized suit.
Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the film, which will be released April 4, 2014.

Walt Disney Studios announced on Thursday that the untitled sequel to The Avengers, the third-highest grossing movie of all time, will arrive in theaters on Fri., May 1, 2015.

As the studio announced last week, Joss Whedon will return to write and direct the project as part of an exclusive three-year film and television deal with Marvel.

The announcement rounds out the next five films in Marvel’s “Phase Two” slate: Iron Man 3 is set for May 3, 2013; Thor: The Dark World for Nov. 8, 2013; Captain America: The Winter Soldier for April 4, 2014; and Guardians of the Galaxy for Aug. 1, 2014.

The next lingering question: Where Edgar Wright’s Ant-Man will fit into this scheme.

LOST’s Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje Lands Villain Role in THOR: THE DARK WORLD

Lost star Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje has joined the cast of the sequel Thor: The Dark World as one of the film’s villains. Christopher Eccelston is already set to play the film’s primary baddie, Malekith the Accursed, the ruler of the Dark Elves, and Tom Hiddleston is also set to return as the meddlesome Loki.

Now Variety reports that Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be playing Algrim the Strong, a character from the comics who was the most powerful among the Dark Elves. Akinnuoye-Agbaje will be pulling double duty in Thor 2 as he’ll be playing two versions of the same character. In the comics, Malekith coerces Algrim into battling Thor, only to be betrayed and injured by Malekith. Algrim then heals and is transformed into an even more powerful being called Kurse, who is said to be twice as strong as Thor.

Production is getting underway imminently in London, and we recently reported that Kat Dennings will be returning alongside Natalie Portman, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan Skarsgard and Rene Russo. Thor: The Dark World opens on November 8th, 2013.

IRON MAN 3 ...first ever official trailer!

Marvel Studios’ Iron Man 3 pits brash-but-brilliant industrialist Tony Stark/Iron Man against an enemy whose reach knows no bounds. When Stark finds his personal world destroyed at his enemy’s hands, he embarks on a harrowing quest to find those responsible. This journey, at every turn, will test his mettle. With his back against the wall, Stark is left to survive by his own devices, relying on his ingenuity and instincts to protect those closest to him. As he fights his way back, Stark discovers the answer to the question that has secretly haunted him: does the man make the suit or does the suit make the man?

Starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Rebecca Hall, Stephanie Szostak, James Badge Dale with Jon Favreau and Ben Kingsley, Iron Man 3 is directed by Shane Black from a screenplay by Drew Pearce and Shane Black and is based on Marvel’s iconic Super Hero Iron Man, who first appeared on the pages of Tales of Suspense (#39) in 1963 and had his solo comic book debut with The Invincible Iron Man (#1) in May of 1968.

The film releases May 3, 2013, and is distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.

Joss Whedon Has Completed An Outline For The Avengers 2

What makes the Marvel Cinematic Universe such a special thing is the way that all of the wide-reaching stories are all brought together and intertwined with a master plan constantly in mind.

Judging by the end of The Avengers we are all but guaranteed to see the superhero team go up against the powerful alien/god Thanos in the sequel, but that means that Iron Man 3, Thor: The Dark World, Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Guardians of the Galaxy will all have to play towards the end of Phase 2. And apparently what that end is going to look like has already been mapped out.

Joss Whedon - who not only turned The Avengers into one of the best comic book movies of all time, but is also set to write and direct The Avengers 2 and has a long term contract at Marvel that will see him shepherd future films - recently sat down for a chat with Entertainment Weekly and not only talked at length about the making of his superhero epic, but also revealed that he is on his way to writing a script for the big sequel. The story says that they met with the filmmaker just a few days after he finished and submitted the first outline for the movie, meaning that the first details about the story are floating out in the universe somewhere at this moment.

The Avengers 2 is scheduled to be released May 1, 2015 and while nothing is official it's expected that Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth and Mark Ruffalo will return as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and the Hulk (not to mention other actors like Samuel L. Jackson, Scarlett Johansson and Jeremy Renner).

Marvel Studios is also in the midst of developing a S.H.I.E.L.D. television series, which is set to star Clark Gregg (aka Phil Coulson), Ming-Na Wen, Brett Dalton, Elizabeth Henstridge and Iain De Caestecker. Whedon will direct the pilot - which is scheduled to go into production early next year - while his longtime collaborators Jeffrey Bell, Maurissa Tancharoen and Jed Whedon will serve as showrunners should the project be picked up as a series.

‘Iron Man 3′ Casts China’s Wang Xueqi As New ‘Dr Wu’: Beijing Filming Starts Monday

Marvel starts filming several Iron Man 3 scenes in Beijing on Monday. The studio has just cast leading Chinese actor Wang Xuequi as a new character playing “Dr. Wu”. The highly secretive Marvel has been prepping for the shoot for a week in Mainland China.

It was rumored a few months ago that Hong Kong actor Andy Lau would be joining Iron Man 3 as an ally of billionaire inventor Tony Stark, but he quickly backed out. Then several online comic book sites claimed 64-year-old Xueqi would be a last minute addition taking on the role that Lau had been circling: Chen Lu who is the civilian alias of Radioactive Man.

With a film career that has spanned over 25 years in China’s film industry, Wang Xueqi is what many call the Sean Connery of China. He was often cast in early Fifth Generation films, such as Chen Kaige’s Yellow Earth (1984) and The Big Parade (1986), Huang Jianxin’s Samsara, and Zhang Yimou’s Codename Cougar (1989). He has since carved out a niche in the Chinese market as a character actor. He has recently appeared in award-winning roles in Forever Enthralled (2008) and Bodyguards and Assassins (2009)

Xueqi joins the cast that already includes Robert Downey Jr, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Jon Favreau, Ben Kingsley, Guy Pearce, James Badge Dale, Ashley Hamilton and Rebecca Hall. Shane Black is directing from a screenplay by him and Drew Pearce; scheduled to be released in the U.S. and China on May 3, 2013.

Kevin Feige Confirms ANT-MAN as Official Start to Marvel’s Phase Three, Which Will Include DOCTOR STRANGE

Feige recently spoke to MTV about the slate of Marvel films starting in 2015.

‘Ant-Man’ is definitely part of Phase Three. Like ‘Iron Man 3,’ it’s certainly set in the Marvel Universe, but it’s also through the lens of Edgar Wright — which is the only reason we’re making the movie…I’ve known Edgar since our first lunch together at Comic-Con in 2004. He asked me what Marvel was doing with ‘Ant-Man’ — we weren’t even a studio then; what a difference eight years makes! It’s very much an ‘Ant-Man’ origin movie from the perspective of Edgar Wright and his co-writer Joe Cornish. It will of course be firmly planted in the MCU, but a different corner than we’ve seen before.

Beyond that… ‘Ant-Man’ is the only one officially announced, but you probably don’t have to look too far to guess at the next list of characters we’re toying with and beginning to develop…’Doctor Strange,’ which I’ve been talking about for years, is definitely one of them. He’s a great, original character, and he checks the box off this criteria that I have: he’s totally different from anything else we have, just like ‘Guardians of the Galaxy.’ He’s totally different from anything we’ve done before, as is ‘Ant-Man,’ which keeps us excited.

I would say that the exercise of this film is very much standalone, more so than any ‘[I]Iron Man’ film since the first one. But because we are in Phase Two and we’re heading towards another ‘Avengers’ movie, there’s certainly a road that’s being paved — you just might not notice it…While you’re driving on the road, not knowing where it’s going, you might not realize that there are road signs and signals and lane changes that we’re setting up now — they might not be readily apparent the first time you see the movie…In this one, it has less to do with any sort of larger S.H.I.E.L.D. or cosmic overlay, but much more about Tony, his frame of mind, his viewpoint and the things he wants to pursue.

Starting in May, Iron Man 3 will kick off Marvel’s second set of films that will lead to The Avengers 2 in 2015.

'Iron Man 3' Heads for $170M Weekend After $68M in Friday Box-Office Debut

Disney's and Marvel's "Iron Man 3’ is on track to kick off the summer movie season with a $170 million opening weekend at the box office, after rocketing to $68 million on its first day of release.

It won't match the record-breaking debut of Disney’s "The Avengers," the Marvel superhero mashup that ignited last summer with a record-breaking $207 million. But if it stays on its current pace, "Iron Man 3" has a good shot at the second-best three-day opening ever. "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Part 2," which took in $169.1 million in 2011, currently holds that slot.

"Iron Man 3" entered into its North American debut with plenty of momentum from overseas since opening in most of the world last week. After taking in $43 million internationally on Friday, the foreign total for the superhero sequel is $388 million, and $456 million worldwide.

While it’s exciting to look ahead to Marvel’s Phase Two slate post-Iron Man 3, all roads lead to one of the most anticipated sequels in recent memory: The Avengers 2.

Steve recently spoke with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige, and during their extended conversation Feige talked quite a bit about how Iron Man 3 gives audiences an idea of what to expect from The Avengers 2.

“Well Joss has said it on the record in the past, it’s not about going bigger. It’s not about, ‘And this time there will be five more explosions in this section!’ I mean certainly you want to up the ante, you want to exceed people’s expectations, but I think there are various ways of doing that and Iron Man 3 is a very, very good test for us of doing exactly that. The first movie we make after The Avengers has our hero spending more time out of the suit than any of the other movies; that seems potentially counter-intuitive to some people, but that was exactly why we did it. We didn’t want to say, ‘Oh now it has to be bigger and he fights 100 people in armored suits.’ Yeah the action sequences are big, there’s more action in Iron Man 3 than in the other two movies, but at the same time it’s a much deeper and a more exploratory character journey on the heels of our biggest spectacle with The Avengers.”

“We’ve been consistent in talking about this leading up to The Avengers: what is most interesting to us and why we hired Joss Whedon in the first place is the interaction between the characters. That’s more fun to us than the massive action scenes that are gonna have to come with it that we’re gonna have to figure out, and we’re gonna have to be clever and raise the bar, but already the scenes that Joss has of just the characters sitting around and interacting are hilarious and are awesome and are moving and a notch or two above the first movie, and to me that’s where you wanna top yourself.”

'The Avengers 2' Will be Titled 'The Avengers: Age of Ultron'

Joss Whedon and the folks at Marvel unveiled a surprise bombshell tonight as they revealed that the villain in the 2015 superhero sequel "The Avengers 2" is not going to be the giant purple alien Thanos after all — as was teased in the after credits scene at the end of "The Avengers" — but rather the team's number one archenemy in the comics, Ultron.

http://i52.photobucket.com/albums/g12/ravenavi/AP_maintitle_lyrs_PRINT_wDate-610x343.jpg

Naturally, that news sent fanboys and fangirls around the world into swoons of excitement. But for everyone else, there was one itsy bitsy question: Who the hell is Ultron?

Ultron, who first appeared in 1968's Avengers #54-55, has major personal ties to two members of the team that haven't actually appeared in Marvel's movies at all: Hank Pym and The Vision.

Created by super-genius scientist Hank Pym (aka Ant-Man, though he may not be the guy inside that costume when Edgar Wright's "Ant-Man" movie hits theaters in 2015), Ultron began life as the world's first true artificial intelligence. However, Hank made one mistake: He apparently programmed Ultron to be a complete d-bag. Before long, Ultron had upgraded his hardware and operating systems several times — building a indestructible robot body made so deadly even Thor fears him — and, armed with a major Oedipal complex, he set out to destroy his "father" Hank Pym and the rest of the Avengers.

This is where things really get complicated, because in order to do this, he decided to create his own deadly robotic minion, The Vision. He then sent Vision to infiltrate and destroy the team from within, but when Vision ended up becoming sentient himself, he had a change of heart and joined the team instead to fight on the side of good.

As a result, most of Ultron's appearances through the decades have revolved around this deadly family feud, with Ultron trying to destroy both his "father" and his "son," with the rest of humanity being collateral damage. And given that the Vision's mutant wife, the Scarlet Witch, is already confirmed to be in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron" — and that Vin Diesel is widely rumored to be in talks with Marvel to play Vision — chances are pretty good that we'll be seeing some version of this story play out on the big screen two years from now.

Of course, it should also be noted that the specific title "The Avengers 2: Age of Ultron" refers to a comic book event called "Age of Ultron" that just ended last month. The plot of that series is so incredibly convoluted it's technically impossible to actually explain it, but given that it involved time travel to multiple alternate realities and prominently features Wolverine as one of the main characters (who can't appear unless Fox gives up the movie rights), it's pretty unlikely "Avengers 2" will be a direct adaptation.

Whatever the case, though, we can't wait. Because, trust us: Ultron is awesome.

Hm...yeah "Age of Ultron" the comic series would not make a good movie.
VERY convoluted, not to mention takes place with different characters, a different set of avengers that have
a: Not been established in these films at all yet
b: Been X-Men
c: Been Fantastic Four members
...The last two there won't happen due to current fox ownership of those...
If they tried to spin it differently with different characters, no, I just do not see it working. It's definitely a storyline that would take more than a movie to do it justice, and yes...too many variables....

Though something involving the creation and ascent into sentience of Ultron would be good.
They could potentially do ONE reality shift for part of the film (VS the ?5? in the comic series) by having Ultron somehow contact his future self, or a future self simply coming into existence after his creation...who would go into the past to assure his creation/ascention which would fuck with the current timeline.

Then I'd assume the Avengers of that "warped" reality would somehow gain access to the time shifting technology and go back to our current time as seen in the MCU thus far, and be working counter to Ultrons intentions.

Perhaps they could even be at odds with the existing Avengers.
I don't doubt there will likely be two versions of at least some of the core characters.
That would actually work, as long as they didn't tie it in too many knots.
Ultron is a GREAT villain.

...Too bad though, I still wish for Kang the Conquerer.

If you thought that idea seems a little convoluted to work, well...the comic would be tenfold of that.

James Spader is Ultron, Elizabeth Olsen lands as Scarlet Witch

Hot off his appearance in "Marvel's Agents of SHIELD," Samuel L. Jackson let slip a pretty big detail about the Marvel Cinematic Universe. It's no secret that Scarlet Witch is going to be a character in "The Avengers: Age of Ultron," and it's also known that Elizabeth Olsen is up for the role, but according to Jackson, she managed to land it.

"I don't think we begin shooting before March of next year," Jackson says of "The Avengers: Age of Ultron." "I know we're shooting in London, that James Spader is Ultron and going to be the bad guy, and that we added Ms. [Elizabeth] Olsen, but I don't know what she's doing, if she's on the inside or the outside. I haven't seen a script."

Of course, this isn't an official Marvel confirmation, so don't take it as solid fact. But it does seem likely that the younger sister of the Olsen twins would land the role.

"The Avengers: Age of Ultron" is due in theaters on May 1, 2015.

I like Ultron, but a bit fed up we've not got Thanos! Thing with these marvel films is they all seem to be getting a bit repetitive, Iron Man 1 I enjoyed, 2 was so, so, and 3 was terrible.

Too many machines for my liking in these films. Thor, The Destroyer, was more like an Iron Man robot to me, like Thor has a chance against The Destroyer anyhow! He was made to take on The Celestials.

New Wolverine film, rubbish again, Silver Samurai was basicaly an Iron Man suit again.

Alien invaders in Avengers were rubbish, Hulk was like King Kong (Hulks my favourite character btw) and after the excitement of Thanos I end up with Ultron.

And the agent of Shields series, no comment! I loved Joss Whedon's Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and even really liked his Atonishing X-Men comic book series, but not overly a fan of these marvel things he's doing, too much humor for my liking.

I want it more serious like Sin City or Watchmen ;-(

It doesn't matter to me what premise the filmmakers go with for the Avengers sequel as long as it's as entertaining as the first movie. Admittedly, I am as much of a geek for a great super-hero movie as I am for anything great to come from the sci-fi or horror genres.

That looks awesome. I was a little skeptical of James Spader as Ultron but since ive been watching The Blacklist and after seeing that, I'm sure he'll be great.

He LITERALLY made the movie for me. I came out of the theater rather disappointed with this one... Unless your a Bruce/Hulk fan it seems everyone else loved it though so idk.
