Not seen a thread for this yet (except on upcoming movies):
Well Aja is back ( i posted this on another forum):
Just got back from this pretty enjoyable trash film - I brought the requisite bag of cider cans and a tray of the worse nachos on earth..
WARNING SPOILERS:
It starts with a cameo from Richard Dreyfuss who plays the same character from Jaws and is even shown singing 'show me the way to go home' but just like Drew Barrymore in Scream, he doesn't even make it to the credit sequence...
The film is a little slow to start but once it does its a fucking rollercoaster. The flick runs like an old 70's expoiter every thing is tirs or blood or then eventuall TITS and Blood..I cannot believe this film got a 16 cert here - there's scenes of severed cock regurgitaion, full frontal (possibly fake) nudity and dozens of stripped to the bone dying victims..The 3D is ok too....
This film is actually the 2nd remake of Joe Dante's 70s classic but it actually has more in common (read RIPPED off) with Jaws and the Lee Majors classic 'Killer Fish'...
Well - at the end of the day if you're as drunk and dumb as shit as I am then you'll enjoy this film..

Wow, I kinda wish I hadn't read that Spoiler! I was gonna avoid this film like the plague but, well, now I know that HOOPER is in it. I kinda have to. Or at least, the opening...

"Motor boat! Motor boat!" that's all I have to say really, but I will say more.
Eli Roth was awesome. Riley Steele has awesome fake boobies. Jerry O'Connell is fucking hilarious and I can't stress that enough. If boobs isn't a good enough reason to see it, Jerry O'Connell should be. He has this hilarious quote about how he would fuck fish all day. Oh and the puns! There are so many puns!

What a load of shit. "True horror fan." What the fuck does that even mean?
Watch a film, or not, because you want to or don't. Don't wait for your goth peers to give their approval.

Cheers to that! I went to see it with a film major just because we like watching movies. How's that for a reason? It's a solid fucking movie for people who like to have fun. If you don't like having fun, I guess you could just stay home and cut yourself while listening to Fallout Boy or something.

Yeah James Cameron made a very funny cheesy sequal with flying Piranha..
This version is actually the second remake...Corman produced one back in the mid-90s..

I don't remember that scene in the movie at all... Does it actually happen?
...
Anyway. So I went to see this last night and, as previous persons have stated it's an absolute BLAST.
Incredibly gratuitous - From 3D blood to 3D boobies to teenagers LITERALLY drowning in a BAY OF BLOOD AND GUTS.
http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/images/reviews/166/1282138830_8.jpg
Plus, Jerry O'Connel was absolutely hilarious.
Pure schlock fun.
The only complaint that I have is what has already been raised - Sometimes the 3D was not that great, nor was the CGI; sometimes the camera shook so much that I couldn't see exactly WHAT was getting torn off... BUT in the end, it added to the experience.
What REALLY amused me about the whole experience is that my boyfriend and I went to see it last night - Monday night out at the movies - And were there with two groups of teens and another teen couple... Mark and I were the ONLY people laughing and, as much as the teenage boys were trying to act tough with their girlfriends, it was CLEAR that they were absolutely disturbed by the film - Most of them walked out before it was over. Bwahahahaha.
Suited ME fine because they talked through most of it... And made insipid comments at EVERY death scene like, "UH! THAT'S MESSED UP!" "THAT'S SO GROSS!"
Morons. They have NO idea what the point was...
I hate people. Why they hell did you EXPECT from a movie called 'PIRANHA 3D'????

Really can't wait to see this based on what you're all saying.
But it's interesting, it seems to me that people who watched the first one are more likely to enjoy this one than those who haven't, based on varying views I'm hearing from people. Maybe people who haven't seen the original don't get that these aren't meant to be good films, just gory fun? Some films call for a decent story, some are terrible because they use gore to try and frighten the audience. These ones work because they use it to entertain the viewer.

I think the issue is that people just don't get it. Like a bunch of teenagers walked out of it in disgust as I was laughing at the delightfully gory scenes... They just had no context. I don't think that you necessarily need to have seen the original film; just understand the genre that it is paying homage to.

Not enough sparkly vampires n' shit for them probably.
Hoping to check this out in the weekend if this flu doesn't get anymore on top of me. Can't wait it looks great. I dug what he did with the Hills Have Eyes remake so I'm looking foward to this one.

Yeah, the more and more I go to see horror movies in the theater, the more I HATE horror viewers (no offense to anyone on HDC) - I find that people talk through movies and say incredibly insipid things, "UHH! THAT'S SO MESSED UP!"
Which SUCKS because I used to absolutely LOVE going to the movies... Now it's something that stresses me out if someone is talking and I can't get into it.
Mark equates my going to the movies with the Road Rage of others - I take out my rage on movie audience members.
Could be. Or maybe I just fucking HATE IT when people TALK DURING A MOVIE! WHO THE FUCK DOES THAT?!?!?!
Also - We paid nearly $30 for our tickets (combined). On a Monday night. WHAT THE FUCK?!

I looooooooove the Maynard Fine Arts theater!! It's actually within walking distance for me! The big problem, though - The seats haven't been refurbished in YEARS. I find it too uncomfortable to enjoy a film. I know that sounds lame, but I've had lower back issues and just can't sit still there. :(
Which SUCKS because it's a great theater - And tickets are cheap. I'd love to own it and open a pub next door - Refurbish the seats, make it 21+ (if not for all showings, at least after 9) and show anything from indie films to oldies-but-goodies.
I forget you're from the area - I prefer the Landmark Theater in Waltham - it's a bit more comfortable and shows good stuff. I saw Juno there when it was out.

The one next to the Chili's? Been there a few times. If we go to the movies, usually it's the AMC in Framingham or Regal at Solomon Pond Mall. Both have the comfortable stadium seating. That's where we saw Piranha 3D - at the Solomon Pond Mall.

Damn, I really want to see this movie. I was kind of worried when they announced they were going to make the remake that it would be too serious, but I am glad to see that's not the case. If I wasn't broke as hell I would go see it in a heartbeat, but I might have to deal with just getting it on DVD when it comes out.
Oh, also glad to hear that Christopher Lloyd is in the film as a crazy scientist haha.

I agree with ferret chucker people now just look at the 3D Label and want it. As far as fun goes in horror like the piranha series of movies,I used to watch the jaws series just for the fun of the movies until naturally I got bored but, piranhas seriously? that is just like the Lake Placid movies I mean its good for one thrill and then its dull! Id rather watch something creative and disturbing like sleep away camp I can watch 1 through 3 over and over and its just as good each time where as the later sequals Im not even going to try because you cant do better than a killer who is kind and kills everyone!P.S. Don't even get me started on paranormal activity lol!

Just watch the thing....rather than betting on a film that you haven't seen 'as not great..'
If you want to nitpick its more an exploitation film than a horror film and is marketed as such..

Watched Piranha 3D last night, and I was swept off my feet by that fantastic water slaughter sequence.
For those not in the know, the sheriff asks a whole bunch of around 200-odd party ravers to get out of the lake waters, but they don't listen to her and instead jump straight into the lake itself!
Ding, ding, ding...the dinner bells ring under the water, and the motherfuckin' piranha arrive!
What follows, is sheer bliss for the horror fans for the next 20-odd minutes, as they make a beeline for all those tender, fleshy human bodies underwater! :D
IMO, this has to be one of the best sequences in contemporary horror films. Pretty hard to beat, that one. I am trying to think of anything else close to that, and can't think of any.

I bought Piranha 3D last night on Blu Ray. Evidently contains both the 2D and 3D versions of the film on the one disc.
I have only seen the film in 2D up until now, so am looking forward to seeing it in 3D. Also looking forward to finally getting some decent 3D content for my 3D TV/blu ray player.

TOTALLY agreed. I loved this film.
Even better - My boyfriend and I sat in front of a group of teenagers who WALKED OUT... I don't think that they could handle it... Or maybe they were disturbed by the fact that we were giggling at the gore (I mean - how could you NOT?!)
I think that my favorite has to be the girl whose hair gets stuck in the propeller... I gasped out loud with that one.

That's the thing - this movie is really played for laughs. It is basically a teen movie with gore.
The gore is really over-the-top. The porn director gets most of the flesh eaten off the lower half of his body, and goes on living for a considerable period of time. So unrealistic that it is practically a caricature of gore, in a similar vein to Kill Bill.
I think if you watch the film with this mindset, it is immensely enjoyable.

A very old & good friend of mine is moving to Brisbane, AUS with his wife & kid. So the day before yesterday he & 2 of our other friend stayed the night over my place for a kinda farewell+G2G party. After quite a long time we all finally able to met & had an awesome time to talk about our early days & present. After drinking through till 3 in the morning they wanted to see a pure entertainment film from my recent collection of movies. And I played this one and they all loved it.:D

It was really nice movie.. I had seen it in theater. I like the last scene of movie when whole lake was flooded with Blood and bones.
I really liked Piranha. The plot was pretty good and the acting was fine. I actually found it pretty funny and had lot of chuckles. Jerry O'Connell and Paul Scheer are hilarious. It had plenty of gory deaths. And it had plenty of porn stars/babes (kelly brook, riley steele, ashlynne brooke, etc.) who showed plenty of nudity.
I give it a 7 out of 10 with an additional bonus nudity point... So 8 out of 10.

I had the same problem with this movie that I had with Snakes On A Plane. It made such a calculated attempt to be a cheesy movie and to get laughs (and failing) that it came across as being pompous and full of itself. It also forgot that the stars of the film were the piranhas, not Jerry O'Connell doing a Joe Francis impersonation.
