Yes I have and you're wrong in the case of Darkthrone.

There was a mistranslation of the phrase “Norsk Arisk Black Metal" (Arisk was misinterpreted as Aryan when it meant Norwegian) and a inappropriate "Jewish behaviour" joke which they apologised for. The whole incident caused a storm of bullshit and the misconception still continues.

They aren't a NSBM band and despite Varg's dubious philosophy and theories on racial separatism neither is Burzum.

well thanks for clearing that up for me,thats great to know, might actually buy some of the albums now.

the one with a gutarist from mayhem who says black metals not for black people.

That was the drummer Hellhammer. But yeah that book is quite widely critisized for being inaccurate and taking things out of context. He's said the exact opposite in other interviews so I don't know. Aside from Deathcrush and De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas Mayhem are pretty rubbish anyway. The last album wasn't to bad though I guess. But yeah there's no racism in the lyrics anyway and I don't really care about gossip.

BM's not for black people or Jews? ....someone forgot to tell Blasphemy.

Yeah, dude. It's an excellent album.

So to embed a video, you have to do this:

So let's say the full link to the video I want to post is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjB5X4wrYsE
Then I just take everything goes after the "v=" part, so "UjB5X4wrYsE"
and I put it in-between tags like this (obviously without spaces):

[ youtube ] UjB5X4wrYsE [ /youtube]

And then it's done:

UjB5X4wrYsE

You can just quote this post and see how I did it above^

By the way, the Pissed Jeans song I posted is totally awesome.

To further embarrass myself... I'm not trying to defend "horror rap", everything I've heard is total shite, but... there's a guy named Kool Keith who put out a cd back in the 90's called Dr. Octagonecologyst. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was horror rap, but it was extremely off kilter, sort of sadistic and had esoteric references to serial killers. I'd post a link, but I know no one would bother clicking lol

noooooooooooooooooooo!!!cant stand that song, its on the radio 24/7 it drives me crazy That's why I avoid the radio like it's radioactive waste. I hate getting sucked into liking some lame, meaningless pop song like Fergalicous or Hollaback Girl, because it's got a funky beat or a catchy hook. At least with the pumped up kicks song, I can sort of justify it by saying it's about a kid going on a killing spree.

Right on! I had no idea anyone else had a clue about Dr. Octo, except... well shit nobody. Besides the guy who turned me onto it, I don't know a soul who listened to this cd. And I'm in total agreement, it is one of the best rap albums from the 90's. It's just so... different. I can't even think of adjectives that would do it justice. Plus you have to love Kool Keith! He's bat shit crazy, he's pretty much told every record company and executive to go fuck themselves, and his lyrics and rhyming are so original.

Yeah, Kool Keith is a nut. The lyrics on Dr. Octagonecologyst are amazing. His style reminds me a little of MF Doom. Dan the Automator did the production on that record, and his work is always excellent, too.

Love that Zappa song, too. One of the first tunes of his I remember hearing.

Love that Zappa song, too. One of the first tunes of his I remember hearing. Mine too. Overnite Sensation is probably the best album to recommend to someone who never heard Zappa. It's strange, yet there's a normalcy to it that a lot of Frank's other albums don't have. It won't scare them off.

Listening to The Vitamin String Quartet:

aM2u0dxL2AQ

There's something about classical strings being used in a song. They give a certain gravitas to music. I guess it has to do with the resonance of the notes, but I could give a crap about the technical aspect of it, it sounds sweet! And they do a great version of Bold as Love. When they go into the outro of this song (about 3 minutes in) it kind of sends shivers up my spine.

I wouldn't recommend all of their stuff. A lot of it sounds like lame irish sea shantys. And some songs that they attempt to cover, the interpretations just aren't that good. But if you dig cover versions (which I totally do), they're worth checking out.

They're playing the World Cafe Live here in Philly, which is a great place to see a show. It's pretty intimate, has nice acoustics, and fairly cheap (tix are $20). I don't know if the Pontani sisters are playing with them, but I'll have a good time no matter what.

The term "sell-out" is really misused. A lot of the times, it's not even warranted. I heard Bob Dylan was called a sell out because he had the audacity to play an electric guitar. While I'm not a big dylan fan, I don't think his playing a telecaster, qualifies him as a sell-out (He's a sell-out for doing TV commercials). Sugar Ray on the otherhand..... they're the epitome of the term sell-out. It disgusts me to even think about what they became. They went from this song to making silly, non threatening pop music in the course of two albums.

I can dig what you're saying about Helmet going on a little too long. For me, Strap it On, is a lot like that. I don't even like the entire 2nd side of the LP.
I saw them live 3 years ago at this little jazz club here in Philly, which shocked the hell out of me, because up until then, I had only seen them in much larger clubs. They didn't play as loud as they used to, the only member I recognized was page Hamilton. and it was sort of depressing. Made me feel old.

Yeah... I think by the time Niandra came out, LP's were really hard to find. I couldn't wait for this album to come out! He was one of my fav guitarists. I know he's not one of these cats who can play ten billion notes a second, and he probably only knows a handful of scales, but he's got such a unique style and a lot of fucking soul! That blows away any julliard degree in my book.

Some of those songs off that disc do sound like he locked himself in a closet with a childs toy guitar, a mr. microphone, and a few grams of smack, but I still loved the album!

I can understand that; there certainly are Beatles songs that are just so ubiquitous that I never listen to them on my own, nevermind how good they are.
There's also just an amazing progression from their early material to their later, more experimental work.

Let's also say happy birthday to Billie Holiday, who would have turned 97 today.

There's also just an amazing progression from their early material to their later, more experimental work.

On the first 4 albums, the musical progression was a little slow for me. But Help!, while the songs matured greatly, but they still had a few songs with that trademark beatles sound. Rubber Soul, the same thing, but more professional. And Revolver is just completely different. And every album afterwards was just it's own individual masterpiece (with a RIngo song thrown in here and there).

I love talking about music, but I usually refrain from talking about the Beatles. There's just too much to say. And no matter how much I gush, I still couldn't come close to given their work justice.

That actually sounds alot alike.

Just misses one important factor. Mike Slamer, the metal guitarist in City Boy. The guy who made this a special 70s pop/rock band. Well, that and that they had no less than 3 lead singers.
