I think even as a young boy I realized how cheesy Gilligan was....and that was its appeal.

the beverly hillbillies really had something that a lot of similar shows didnt.

i think when you combine the strong cast with the premise you just got far more possibilities for comedy.

similar shows seemed more limited :

green acres, petticoat junction .. the rural setting just didnt provide enough comedic fuel.

the hillbillies were more consistantly funnier than any other sitcom in that time frame. excellent writers can take a lot of credit for that as well..

but still .. what a great cast ...
