Thanks guys :) I'm getting better, but it's slow going.

I will try to do the write up on the results today and post this afternoon or tomorrow.

Also, with Battle Royale for the Living winding down, there will only be two or possibly three more challenges for BR for the Undead, with some more changes after the next challenge.

Oh, and one more thing, since we are on the home stretch for Battle Royale, no more invitations will be sent out for future participants.

The Deadites enter the Catacombs, bringing with them their last remaining bulletproof vest and the revolver.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/tunnels.jpg

Nemesis enters the Catacombs, both teammates splitting at the fork and heading to different sections.

Dude Guadalupe enters the Chapel.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chapel-1.jpg

He glances around briefly before going up to the altar. On the altar are four spherical indentations in a ring: Red, Blue, White, and Green. In the center of the ring is a black stone pyramid.

Pausing as he pulls out the blue orb from his pocket and places it in the blue indentation. The orb glows as the blue liquid inside swirls before going dark and still.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/aqua-sphere-full.jpg

Dude frowns slightly before catching a small movement out of the corner of his eye. He quickly turns and sprints towards the chapel entrance cornering Cactus as he attempts to escape!

Dude hacks at Cactus with his sickle three times, damaging his arm before the sickle breaks. Cactus runs down the tunnel, away from the Chapel as Dude laughs manically.

Cactus doesn't run far down Tunnel Section B before running into Rayne! She smiles evilly and hacks into Cactus three times as well! Her sickle breaking, she leaves him there in the tunnel, slumped against the wall.

Severely injured, Cactus uses his remaining re-animation packs, but it isn't quite enough to put him at full health.

Both teams have submitted all correct answers to the challenge so we will be playing Bludgeon, Scythe, and Shroud as a tiebreaker!

Tobe Hooper

15. Directed the first zombie apocalypse film.
George Romero

Here's a quick review of Bludgeon, Scythe, and Shroud:

So we will be using this as a tie-breaker throughout the rest of the game. Bludgeon, Shroud and Scythe is play just like Rock, Paper, Scissors. Bludgeon breaks Scythe, Scythe cuts Shroud, and Shroud covers Bludgeon.

Each member of a team must send me a PM with their choice of Bludgeon, Shroud, or Scythe. The first PM I receive from each team will be counted as Round 1. If there is a winner of Round 1, that will decide the tie-breaker.

If Round 1 is a tie, then second PM I received from each team will be counted as Round 2.

Since Fortunato sat out for this challenge, he will also be sitting out for Bludgeon, Scythe, and Shroud.

If all the team members have sent me their choices and the rounds end in ties, that challenge will be scrapped without an outing in the catacombs and no rewards will be given. We will then continue on to the next and final challenge.

So, Deadites and Nemesis send me your choices individually via PM. If Bludgeon, Shroud, and Scythe is not completed by tomorrow, June 12th, at noon EST, this challenge will be scrapped.

As per last outing, the revolver is for defense only and not for hunting. The gun carrier must PM me that they are carrying the gun. The gun will automatically fire at the hunter who fire the first two shots at the carrier. The gun will not fire if a teammate is being shot.

The Deadites meet with Weapons Master Bob to go over their new weapon for this outing--a .50 caliber Desert Eagle Pistol.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/IMGP0785.jpg

These pistols are equipped with two bullets each.

The demon Belial will still be wandering around.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/HOMM5_Inferno_Horned_overse.jpg

He only attacks hunters (which is you this round), and will only attack you if you stumble upon him in the Catacombs. If you stumble upon him, you will just piss him off and he will blast you, lowering you 1/3 of your total hit points.

So the Catacombs have been divided into 4 sections: The Ossuary (new section), The Chapel, Tunnel Section A, and Tunnel Section B. Now both of you can be in the same section or different sections or wherever you want, just as long as it's in one of the 4 sections.

Deadites, PM me with your victim(s) for you 2 shots and the section you will be in. You also still have a vest, so one of you may include it in your PM that you are the wearer.

Failure to notify me of your victim and/or section, and Chimera will be unleased upon the entire team, taking away 1/3 of your total life points.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chimera.jpg

For Winning Challenge #8 each of you receive 2 reanimation packs, and your team receives a White Orb with some swirling mist inside.

The Deadites enter the Catacombs; one of them wearing the vest. They also split at the fork.

Fortunato quietly heads down towards the Chapel.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chapel-1.jpg

As he enters he sees Rayne standing at the altar with her back to him, inspecting the black pyramid and the circle of indentations surrounding it. One of the indentations has been fitted with a blue orb with swirling liquid.

Fortunato sneaks up behind her, saying, "Finding anything interesting there?"

She gasps, turning as he empties his two rounds into her side as she starts to run. Clutching her side she flees the Chapel. Fortunato grins maliciously.

Casting away the pistol, Fortunato turns towards the altar. Lifting the white orb from his pocket, he places it in the white indentation. The white mist inside the orb swirls and glows as the blue orb glows as well before both orbs grow dark.

"How dare you defile my place!" a voice belows from the entrance.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/HOMM5_Inferno_Horned_overse.jpg

Fortunato turns and sees Belial sending a fireball directly towards him. Fortunato ducks behind a pew.

Belial closes in towards Fortunato, who makes a dive for the entryway as Belial shoots a fireball at him. This time it connects and singes Fortunato as he makes his escape.

Fortunato runs down the tunnel before stopping a short distance away to assess the damage. He peels off the bulletproof vest from under his clothes, it's usefullness now spent. He then repairs the rest of the damage with some of his re-animation packs.

Meanwhile...

Neverending hunts down Tunnel Section A, closing following the panicked footsteps of his quarry. He corners his quarry against a wall--it is Rayne!

Recovered from her first brush with the Deadites, but now low on re-animation packs, Neverending mercilessly shoots Rayne twice in the chest, emptying his pistol.

The force of the gunshots knocks Rayne back, stumbling she steps on an unmarked switch on the floor. The wall behind her begins to open inward. Not sticking around to find out what is behind the door, Rayne continues deeper into the tunnels.

Neverending peers into the dim light of this new room. It takes him a moment to realize that this room is the Antechamber.

There is movement as a figure emerges from the shadows. Neverending raises his pistol to shoot and then remember it is now empty, tosses the useless weapon aside.

"It's about damn time someone opened the door," says the figure as it finally comes into the light.

"Ferretchucker?" Neverending says, incredulous.

"In the flesh," Ferret says triumphantly, he is covered in blood, but on second glance it does not appear to be his. The Antechamber seems to covered in the blood, flesh, and guts of something.

Ferret notices Neverending's gaze around the room. "I wasn't alone in here," Ferret says as he nonchalantly picks his teeth, "so I got a little bored and a little hungry."

Neverending smirks as he leaves, saying "How nice for you."

Ferret smiles after Neverending exits the room, pulling out a green orb with what looks like loose dirt inside.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/bd_faerieorb_earth.gif

"Yes, how nice for me," Ferret says as he glances around the room. "Thanks, Goblin," he remarks as he leaves the Antechamber.

Cactus continues through the tunnels, pausing to occasionally listen for movement, but hearing nothing he presses on.

Out of the corner of his eye he notices an open gate. Remembering this area to be previously gated, he passes through the gateway.

Cactus walks through a corrider into an open room that appears to an ossuary of some sort, but with the bones almost artfully arranged.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/sedlec010.jpg

He also notices along the far wall a row of at least a dozen locked chests.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/captains-sea-chest-10-flat-front.jpg

Cactus tried to open one but it doesn't budge. Before he can try any of the others, he hears footsteps approaching the Ossuary.

He hides behind a boned column and lies in wait as the figure enters the room. Peering around the column he spies Rayne also peering at the locked chests. He quickly fires his two rounds into her back.

She goes down, already slightly weakened from her last attack and out of re-animation packs.

Cactus smiles triumphantly as he leaves her there and exits the ossuary.

Next Up: The Final Challenge!

Papillon Noir
06-13-2008, 11:13 AM
We finally made it to the Final Challenge here at Battle Royale for the Undead! So, if you're still alive...er here, pat yourself on the back for making it this far! :)

Here's where the game changes as the teams are now disbanded and that this Final Challenge will be an individual challenge as we are hoping for a single winner here (though a tie could be possible).

Regarless of who wins this Final Challenge, everyone will participate in the Final Outing, where everyone will have a weapon. Depending on how you fare in this Final Challenge will give you additional re-animation packs and/or a variety of weapons, with the best weapons going to the winner and the lest effective going to the loser.

The Final Outing will also be broken into two rounds where the survivors from Round One will get to battle again in Round Two receiving additional weapons, but no additonal re-animation packs. Your standings in the Final Challenge will carry through to both Rounds of the Final Outing.

There will also be both good and bad surprises to come in the Final Outing, but more details on that after the Final Challenge.

I know you've all had to do a lot of research to find the answers to the challenges in this competition, so to tie all that together, here is your Final Challenge:

Picking one of the genre specific topics from the past challenges here at Battle Royale for the Undead, which are:

1950's Monster/"B" Movies
1980's Slashers
Horror Comedies
Horror Musicals!
Foreign Horror (non-English-speaking and non-Asian films)

Write a short essay describing what you consider to be the defining film in that genre and why. The film can be one of the films mentioned in a question from that challenge, or it can be just another film in that particular genre.

Please submit your essays to me via PM by Tuesday, June 17th at noon EST.

Judging your essays will be a freshly re-animated previous player here at Battle Royale for the Undead--V!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/vendetta2.jpg

[Applause and Hoorays! heard amongst the crowd]

I will be forwarding all your essays to V for his review and judgement. I will also strike your names from the essays before forwarding them and assign a alphabetical letter instead so that V's review will remain unbiased.

The essays will be reviewed on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 being the best score. V will then send me his judgement via PM which I will post along with the awards and standings for the Final Challenge.

As I said before, only 3 out of the 6 contestant submitted them, and they are:

Essay A

The definitive '80s Slasher is Friday the 13th. Sure there were some that came before that helped to shape and mold the slasher genre, namely Black Christmas, Halloween and some may argue Psycho. But as far as a movie that would define the genre during the salad days of the 1980's, to me it would have to be Friday the 13th. From the initial setting of the tone with the counselors in the loft, it grabs ahold of you and won't let go. It kept you on the edge of your seat, looking at the screen between your fingers. You felt like you were with those counselors, that you were being stalked for the kill as well. The sexual morality aspect had also been done before, but never in such a manner. The kills...my goodness, the kills set the standard that many horror fans began to look for in their horror choices. The Kevin Bacon scene always comes to mind for me. Tom Savini's work as always provides a baseline to judge others that have followed. The reveal at the end was shocking and unexpected as well. These are some of the reasons that this movie inspired a generation of filmmakers.

Sure the franchise eventually became a parody of itself, but Betsy Palmer, and later her little boy, will always be near and dear to our dark little hearts.

V's Response

Fairly sound points. Could have been better though, like the points of Jason popping out of lake and the impact THAT had on audiences, Mrs Voorhees' sinister turn and her Psycho-like transformation...etc.

I give this one 03/05.

Essay B

Horror Comedies

Shaun of the Dead

Horror Comedies. They make us wet ourselves with laughter and scream with fright at the same time, but only if pulled off right. Horror comedy films date back to the twenties, but as for the film I have chosen as defining, it is rather new.

Before one can judge a Horror Comedy, there are several criteria that they have to think of that a film of that genre must have.

- They must have elements of horror.
- They must be comedic regularly
- They must have convincing acting for both genres
- They should appeal to fans of both genres.

Simple criteria, but without them, the film would simply fall apart.

Shaun of the Dead, the story of two English house mates
and their friends and family fighting to stay alive in a world that is now full of zombies, came out in 2004 with mostly good reviews. Though the name might suggest it spoofs George Romero's Dawn of the Dead, it is largely an independent film telling it's own story.

With copious amounts of blood, zombies and blood, the film can easily appeal to fans of the horror genre. It's simple storyline doesn't overwhelm to viewer with information and so can be understood and possibly enjoyed by most.

But to be a horror comedy, it needs COMEDY. And this is where I think it becomes the defining film of the genre. Firstly, it's spoofing of zombie apocalypse films, it appeals to two kinds of people straight away. Fans of horror, who can understand many of the jokes from their familiarity with the genre, and people who hate horror, as it seems to agree with the fact the films can be a bit ridiculous at times.

The approach to comedy that it takes is also a great one,
as it chooses to go down a different route than most other horror comedies. Instead of using the slapstick, specific spoofing films that we've seen countless times, it shows how ordinary people would act in the situation. Doing stupid things, and even in the face of death acting almost like nothing's happening. It's relatable as many can say "I'd do that" or "I know someone like that" to at least one part of the film, if they were being honest. And this type of comedy is widely enjoyed by most comedy fans.

So that's three criteria out of the way. As for the last one, somebody only has to watch the film to be able to see how good the performances are. The comedy skills of Pegg and Frost make the film, and whilst watching it, it's easy to see they love both genres and love what they're doing. The other actors too, Bill Nighy in particular also play their parts brilliantly, and above all, convincingly.

There isn't much more that can be said. The film is an enjoyable ride that treats both genres with respect, but at the same time rip them both to pieces and rewrite the rulebooks for them. The actors clearly love what they're doing and they put their hearts into it, treating each piece how it's needed whether it's scary, funny or sad. It can't be seen as just a horror or just a comedy as the two merge together to make a wonderful 95 minute watch that has very little to be complained about.

V's Response

Simple, convincing, excellent and to-the-point.

Essay C

There is no doubt as to what the Ultimate Horror Musical is. No other horror musical has had the cultural signifigance of this film. It stands heads above any other horror musical in its influence in film, society and people's individual lives. That film would be The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

RHPS began life as a stage musical in a tiny 63 seat theatre in London in 1973. During its initial run it moved to succsessively larger theatres and the crowds kept coming. Richard O'Brien, the show's author has said he wrote the play in order to explore some ideas on sexuality. Certainly the frank look at sexuality in the film is a product of the experimental 70s.

After a successful run in London a Los Angeles production was mounted, to mixed reviews. Following that it premiered on Broadway to mostly negative reaction. Fortunately a film version was already in production. The film featured many of the original cast- Tim Curry, Nell Campbell, Patricia Quinn and Jonathon Adams. Meatloaf, from the Los Angeles and Broadway production was used, and two newcomers to the show were brought in because the producers wanted Americans the play the roles- Barry Bostwick and Susan Sarandon.

The film follows the misfortunes of two young lovers - Brad Majors and Janet Weiss as their car breaks down and they seek assistance at a creepy old mansion. This is a basic plot device used in many horror and sci-fi films of the 40s, 50s and 60s - and that's the point, since this film lovingly sends up countless genre films. Right from the opening shot- a giant pair of heavily lipsticked lips singing the opening song, we know we are in for an out of the ordinary experience. The use of the giant lips is a symbolic representation of sensuality and you can't help but think a few unsavory thoughts as you watch the lips form the words to "Science Fiction/Double Feature."

Michael Rennie was ill
The Day the Earth Stood Still
But he told us where we stand
And Flash Gordon was there
In silver underwear
Claude Rains was The Invisible Man
Then something went wrong
For Fay Wray and King Kong
They got caught in a celluloid jam
Then at a deadly pace
It Came From Outer Space
And this is how the message ran...

Science fiction (ooh ooh ooh) double feature
Doctor X (ooh ooh ooh) will build a creature
See androids fighting (ooh ooh ooh) Brad and Janet
Anne Francis stars in (ooh ooh ooh) Forbidden Planet
Wo oh oh oh oh oh
At the late night, double feature, picture show

The loving references to classic films bring thrills to any horror movie fan. The fun homage doesn't stop there. The mansion where the movie was filmed was known as "The Hammer House" since it had been used in so many Hammer productions. The tank where the creature is born was used in Hammer's "The Evil of Frankenstein." As the plot develops we meet the evil Dr. Frank-n-Furter and his degenerate crew as they waylay Brad and Janet in their quest to find a phone. Frank-n-Furter seduces both Brad and Janet, which leads to Janet seducing Rocky Horror. In the ultimate paen to hedonism, Janet sings:

I'll put up no resistance
I want to stay the distance
I've got an itch to scratch
I need assistance
Touch-a touch-a touch-a touch me
I wanna be dirty
Thrill me, chill me, fulfill me
Creature of the night

In the try anything once atmosphere of the 70s this sexual experimentation was intriquing to audiences. They identified not with the dullards Brad and Janet, but the freakish Frank-n-Furter and his strange crew. Audiences started doing some strange things at showings of the film- first they started showing up in costume- most often as Frank-n-Furter, Riff-Raff, Magenta or Columbine, though there were Brads & Janets too. Soon they were talking back to the film as it rolled past.

Frank-N-Furter Do you have any tattoos Brad?
Audience: ASSHOLES DON'T HAVE TATTOOS.
Brad Certainly not!
Frank-N-Furter Oh well, how 'bout you?
Audience: SHOW US YOUR BATTLESHIP JANET!

And not only were they talking back, they were participating with props! When Janet puts a newspaper over her head to go outside in the rain, audience members would put newspapers over their heads while other let lose with a volley of squirt guns. When Fran-n-Furter called for a toast the audience threw toast at the screen. When wedding members threw rice, so did the audience. An amazing thing had happened- the fourth wall was broken down and it was THE AUDIENCE who did it. Never before had this happened. This was an organic process initiated by audience members, not something that was part of the film itself. Of course some uptight theatre owners didn't take too kindly to these shenanigans. SMART theatre owners moved the shows to midnight and encouraged the participation.

This had now become the first movie by a major studio that was being shown on the growing Midnight Movie circuit- and this is another way this movie broke new ground. Other studios saw the business RHPS was dojng and rushed some of their stranger films into the Midnight Movie Circuit. Some theatre owners showed nothing but RHPS at midnight and at those theatres things got quite elaborate. Not only were there props and dialogue for the audience there now arose full blown floor shows with audience members re-enacting the entire movie in front of the screen. Some theatres had rotating casts, and even pre-show acts where they would initiate "virgins" to the RHPS experience. For these audience members this had become more, far more than a traditional moviegoing experience. It had become their lives. Some audience members went to see the film hundreds, even thousands of times. It became a tranformative experience for them. Many of these audience members were alienated members of a counter-culture. The RHPS had given them something to belong to.

These midnight showings went on for years. DECADES. The Clinton Theater in Portland, Oregon has shown the film every weekend at midnight for over thirty years, making RHPS the longest running movie in cinema history. RHPS even found its way into other movies- in the movie "Fame" some teenage students go see the RHPS at a midnight showing and one of them has his life changed. So it has been for many viewers to take to heart its message of "Don't dream it, be it."

Prompted by the midnight success of the movie revivals of the stae show popped up round the world- notably Australia, England, Mexico and South America. Cast albums have been recorded in England (several productions), Australia (serveral productions), Brazil, Mexico, Norway, Germany (two different casts), New Zealand (twice), Iceland, Denmark, Toronto, South Africa, Korea, Peru, Panama and Vancouver. In 2005, the film itself was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant".

There are many great horror musicals but it can safely be said that none of them stand up to RHPS in its influence and simple enjoyability. Above all, it's a FUN movie to watch, either with a fully armed theatre audience or at home in private. Some people say it's not much of a horror movie, but theyre wrong- it has a mad doctor creating a creature, and an axe murder, the victim of which is then served for dinner. The Rocky Horror Picture Show works on so many levels- as a sendup, as a musical with a great score, as an enjoyable movie with a perfect cast, and for many people, a reason to live. It is clearly the ultimate Horror Musical.

V's Response

Well researched, very thoughtful and insightful and very nicely written. My only complaint - it could have been trimmed and edited to a more shorter essay, with some negligible facts done away with.

Still, this one is the best out of the three. Just for the length, I ll deduct a nominal amount from the points.

Therefore, our winner of the Final challenge is Neverending with a 4.9/5!

Now, can he survive the Final Outing to be crowned the winner? We'll just have to wait and see. ;)

For winning this challenge, Neverending receives 12 re-animation packs and a red orb with flames trapped inside.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/orb_fire.jpg

For participation and the second highest score, Ferretchucker receives 7 reanimation packs.

For participation and the third highest score, Cactus receives 4 reanimation packs.

How these standings will all play out with the rest of the contestants is coming up next.

The three participants in the Final Challenge go and visit Weapons Master Bob to get their Tommy Gun!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/TommyGun.jpg

Neverending receives 25 bullets, Ferretchucker receives 20 bullets, and Cactus receives 15 bullets.

Meanwhile, Rayne, Dude Guadalupe, and Fortunato meets with Weapons Assistant Earl to receive their weapon, the revolver.

There are now five areas that are available within the Catacombs: Ossuary, Chapel, Antechamber, Tunnel Sec. A, & Tunnel Sec. B. Multiple contestants can occupy the same area.

There were also several locked chests in the Ossuary, which have now been moved to the above 5 areas. Each chest comes with 3 keys: gold, silver, and brass. You each get one chance to pick which key opens the the chest in the area that you are in.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/captains-sea-chest-10-flat-front.jpg

There are multiple chests in each room, so you need not worry if someone hasn't gotten there first as you only get one shot at opening the chest. All contents of the chest and the type of key that opens it are identical to those in that area, but are different in the other areas of the Catacombs.

Inside the chests are weapons, though there may be one or two that are empty.

If you open a chest with a weapon, whatever damage points that weapon may possess will be inflicted on your victim. If there are multiple victims, the damage will be dispersed as evenly possible and in the order that the victims are named.

Also, Belial is still roaming.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/HOMM5_Inferno_Horned_overse.jpg

If you run into him he will hit you with a fireball and lower your total life points by a 1/3.

And since this is the Final Challenge, Chimera has also been released into the Catacombs.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chimera.jpg

If you run into him, he will also lower your total life points by a 1/3. So be careful out there.

All the contestants enter the Catacombs.

As they reach the fork, they pause looking questioningly at one another. Even though this is now an individual challenge, it seems that team loyalties still run strong.

Dude and Rayne, former Nemesis, turn to fire their revolvers at the former Deadites: Neverending, Cactus, and Fortunato, and former Cenobite: Ferretchucker, but their revolvers jam.

Fortunato gives a sly smile to his teammates, saying to Rayne and Dude, "Run, prey."

Rayne and Dude, looking uneasy, run down deeper into the tunnels. The
Deadites and Cenobite stalk after them.

Fortunato pulls ahead of the group as Rayne and Dude enter the Chapel.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chapel-1.jpg

Fotunato fires his 3 shots at Dude entering the Chapel behind them. Rayne and Dude scramble behind pew, but Ferret enters and manages to get 2 shots off at both Rayne and Dude.

Ferret attempts to go after them as Rayne and Dude exit the Chapel, but Neverending stops him, "let them go for now," he says as he pulls his red orb out from his pocket, "We have more pressing matters here, don't we?". Neverending eyes Ferret suspiciously.

"What?", Ferret says.

"We know you have the final orb," says Cactus, "You're the only one that's been down here and stuck with that thing in the Antechamber."

Neverending places his red orb in the red indentation on the altar. The other two orbs glow as the fire inside the red orb ignites before going dark.

The Deadites look to Ferret. Ferret rolls his eyes before taking out his green orb, "Fine". He goes to place it in the indentation, but Fortunato catches his hand.

Eyeing one of the chest, Fortunato says, "Let me try at one of the chests first...just in case". Ferret just shrugs.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/captains-sea-chest-10-flat-front.jpg

Fortunato kneels in front of the chest and picking the silver key, attempts to unlock it and it won't budge. "No luck," he says.

Ferret places the green orb in the indentation. All four orbs start to glow and the black pyramid in the center starts to open, filling the Chapel with a white and blinding light.

Cracks of lightening come from the opened pyramid and a thunderous roar as the demon Astaroth appears out of the light in all his flames and glory!

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/rakdos-demon-lord.jpg

Neverending whispers, "My God, what have we done?!".

Astaroth speaks, looking at Neverending, "God is not here."

The Deadites and Cenobite flee the Chapel without looking back.

I'm sorry I have to run, the rest tomorrow morning, I promise :)

...AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!

Another demon!

Papillon Noir
06-25-2008, 07:33 AM
The Deadites and Cenobite race through the tunnels and into the Antechamber. They stop, panting.

"I can't believe there is another demon loose," says Cactus.

"Well, this is the Final Outing", says Ferret, who then receives dark looks from the Deadites. "Hey, I'm just saying what you all are thinking," he continues.

Cactus goes over to the chest by the entryway to try his luck with a silver key. The key doesn't move.

Before Cactus has a chance to comment, Rayne and Dude stumble through the entryway. Without hesitation, Cactus puts 8 bullets in Dude and 2 bullets in Rayne.

Ferret chimes in as he dumps two more bullets into each of them as they run off. "C'mon, we can catch them," Ferret says as he starts after them.

"We can, but you won't," Cactus comments as he dumps his remaining 5 bullets into Ferret.

Ferret's eyes widen in surprise before he takes off after Nemesis as Cactus laughs evilly.

The Deadites stalk after Ferret and Nemesis, with Neverending in the lead as they their time entering Tunnel Section B.

Neverending peers around the corner as he sees Ferret patching himself up with his remaining re-animation packs. He walks quietly to Ferret, commenting to him "Those won't help you now," as he dumps 15 bullets into Ferret, dusting him completely.

Neverending continues down, Fortunato and Cactus falling behind. He hears arguing--Rayne and Dude.

"It's your fault, they're hunting us now," Rayne spats at Dude.

"Oh, like you've been a big help," Dude retorts.

"Fighting amongst ourselves now?" Neverending comments as he steps forwards, a slight smirk on his face, before shooting them both with the rest of his bullets, dusting them both.

Behind where Rayne and Dude were standing a moment ago is the chest. Neverending kneels in front of it and tries the silver key. The key doesn't move.

Neverending starts to rise as the demon Belial comes out from the shadows. "How dare you enter my realm!" Belial bellows, shooting a fireball at Neverending.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/HOMM5_Inferno_Horned_overse.jpg

The fireball hits him in the chest, but he moves quickly to escape the next one and out of that tunnel section.

The Final Three in the Final Challenge go and visit Weapons Master Bob to get their Desert Eagles!

Neverending receives 13 bullets, Cactus receives 8 bullets, and Fortunato receives 3 bullets. This distribution is based on the results from the Final Challenge.

There are now only 4 areas that are available within the Catacombs: Ossuary, Chapel, Antechamber, & Tunnel Sec. B. Multiple contestants can occupy the same area.

There are still locked chests in each area. Each chest comes with 3 keys: gold, silver, and brass. You each get one chance to pick which key opens the the chest in the area that you are in.

If you open a chest with a weapon, whatever damage points that weapon may possess will be inflicted on your victim. If there are multiple victims, the damage will be dispersed as evenly possible and in the order that the victims are named.

Since none of the chests were opened last outing, the key that opens the chest and it's contents will remained unchanged except with the inclusion of re-animation packs in addition to weapons in the chests.

Also, Belial is still roaming.

The Deadites enter the Catacombs for what is truly their final outing. They pause at the fork in the tunnels, pistols drawn.

"Are we still going to go through with the plan?" asks Cactus. Both Neverending and Fortunato nod, holstering their pistols. Cactus holsters his pistol, saying to Fortunato, "Lead the way then, my friend."

Fortunato leads the way into Tunnel Sec B, spying the chest he goes over to it. Trying the Brass Key this time, but to no avail.

Fortunato starts to leave as he gets slammed in the back by a fireball. He glances over his shoulder to see a rather annoyed Belial preparing a second one. Neverending and Cactus pull him out of the way in time.

Fortunato uses his last re-animation packs to heal himself, most of the way.

The Deadites continue on into the Antechamber, a little more cautiously this time.

Cactus kneels in front of the chest, trying the gold key this time. An audible click is heard and the chest springs open revealing a crossbow with 2 arrows and 2 re-animation packs. Cactus laughs triumphantly as he adds these items to his arsenal.

The Deadites continue on again into the Chapel.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chapel-1-1.jpg

"Wow," says Neverending as the group notices the change to the room, "Astaroth must have done this when he came here."

"He must still be running around here...somewhere," comments Cactus.

"Well there is only one room left and Chimera has yet to show himself," says Fortunato.

"This is the Final Outing after all," says Neverending as he kneels down to open the chest. Choosing the Brass Key, he turns it in the lock and the chest springs open revealing--nothing! The chest is empty.

Neverending shrugs then turns to his teammates. "One room left," he says, "Are you read for the Final Battle?"

Cactus and Fortunato both nod. Neverending nods as well, leading them out of the room towards the last room left of this great battle, where the ultimate outcome and the ultimate victor will be revealed.

The Deadites enter the Ossuary.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/sedlec010.jpg

Neverending, Cactus, and Fortunato walk to the center of the room eying each other suspiciously. "Well, Deadites," Neverending begins, "we have made it to the final three."

"A feat not to be taken lightly," Cactus continues.

"Though, a clear winner must be determined..." Fortunato says as he pulls out his pistol.

Neverending and Cactus follow his lead seconds later. All three Deadites pointing their pistols tentatively at each other in a standoff.

BANG! Fortunato fires into Neverending, breaking the truce. Neverending and Cactus both fire twice into Fortunato as he ducks behind a column of bones.

With Cactus and Neverending both still in the open, they turn on each other and they both make a b-line for cover, each sending three bullets into the other on the way.

As Cactus dives for cover behind another pile of skulls, he opens himself up to Fortunato, who takes two shots. Cactus returns fire with two shots of his own before maneuvering out of the way.

Meanwhile, Neverending sneaks up behind Fortunato, firing three quick shots which is enough to dust Fortunato. "One more," Neverending murmurs to himself.

Cactus, seeing Fortunato dusted moves around to flank Neverending firing one shot before an audible CLICK! is heard. "Shit!" says Cactus as Neverending wheels, pumping three more shots into Cactus before he is able to take cover behind another column of bones.

Pulling out the crossbow that he won from the treasure chest, Cactus loads both arrows. Slipping silently around the outskirts of the room, he moves to flank Neverending, but Neverending is ready for him and they both fire their last two shots at each other.

Neverending and Cactus are still both alive and now out of ammo. Cactus frowns slightly as he tosses away his empty weapon, "Who won?"

Neverending tosses his empty weapon and is about to speak when a low growl is heard. Both Neverending and Cactus turn to see Chimera slowly stalking towards them.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/chimera.jpg

"No, one" Neverending comments as he and Cactus slowly back up.

Chimera stalks closer and is about to pounce them, but is ignited in flames mid-leap, landing as a burnt-out carcass between them.

They both look up to see the demon Astaroth, who had just ignited Chimera with a stream of flames from his palm.

http://i97.photobucket.com/albums/l205/Noir_HarleyQuinn/Battle%20Royale/rakdos-demon-lord.jpg

"Oh, this just gets better and better." Cactus murmurs.

Astaroth laughs, "You have no idea! Though, I have to say that this was one of my better ideas."

Neverending and Cactus look quizzingly at each other.

A click of high heels is heard as a tall blonde in a black cocktail dress, carrying a clipboard, appears. She looks at Astaroth and smiles before turning to Neverending and Cactus.

"I'd say so," says Noir. "Well, Gentlemen," Noir continues, "You've both played a great competition and congratulations on actually surviving this competition."

"So, he's not here to kill us?" Neverending asks, indicating Astaroth.

"No, he's been watching the whole time and only came down here for the finale," says Noir.

"Managing the denizens of hell can be so boring", Astaroth comments boredly.

"And for the winner," Noir continues, as she reads her clipboard, "Neverending! Congratulations, you are the winner of Battle Royale for the Undead!"

"Woohoo!" Cheers Neverending.

Cactus pats Neverending on the back, "Good job, man!"

Noir turns to Cactus, smiling, "Congratulations to you too Cactus, you didn't win, but you didn't get dusted either." Cactus nods, grinning.

Turning back to Neverending, Noir says, "Now for your reward, Neverending. You get to go back to the world of the Living." She grins, continueing, "Try not to get shot."

Neverending looks astonished, and before he can comment, Astaroth touches his shoulder, sending a white heat through his body.

There is a flash of light and Neverending is standing by a swimming pool on a tropical island. The sun is shinning and a warm breeze is coming off the nearby beach. Next to him is a large trophy with the words, "Champion of Battle Royale for the Undead."

There is a monkey with sunglasses sitting in a lawn chair smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer. There is an large trophy next to him with the words "King of Battle Royale".

"Zero?" Neverending asks.

Zero pushes down his sunglasses, "Neverending? Damn, Man, I thought you were dead...you want a beer?"

"Definitely," Neverending says as he takes a seat, stretching out in the lawn chair next to Zero. He grins.

One more thing. What happened to Cactus afterwards? Did Astaroth dust him, or is he doomed to wander the netherworlds. Or will he take on a part as a Demon in next years BR for the UD? (If there is one)

Cactus is just chillin out in the underworld. As for the next BR, who knows? :p
