I have a problem.
When i watch Psycological horror movies, they never really catch me.
Why?
Because i dont feel like i have time to think, basicly (i still dont know how to sp that :P) because, i can see the mistrust or isolation in The Thing, but i cant think all that underlying horror through while keeping up with the movie.
Only when the credits roll can i think it through, get a BIT disturbed, and then its over.
I dont know why i have this problem.
Am i supposed to think AFTER the movie? watch it several times? should i just pick a chocker? does any1 else have this problem?
Thanks.

You're fine. It's just a lethal condition. You'll die soon enough, no worries.

I think what you need to do, is LEARN HOW TO WATCH A MOVIE RIGHT.

Yes. Don't worry about thinking during a film, you are simply supposed to FEEL while watching. If you think, it's just a bonus.
You do not have a problem, you simply need to watch more films. The patterns will arise. Themes will become more familiar. Genres and cliches will define themselves.
And if the themes and ideas of a film linger with you or become more clear after the fact...that's a good thing. You are learning to analyze film. Keep it up, It gets easier.
And when you think about a film after the fact...watch it again. Films are meant to be revisited, that's the difference between films and plays.

fucking a like seriously? my all time favorite movies are the ones that make me think, thats what make them art....
The mindless gorefests, while i do enjoy a few, are really just a guilty pleasure for me.....
I guess multiple views would be my suggestion if you can only think about the films underlying themes AFTER you watch it....watch that shit over and over, good movies are worth it....

I must also add, not ALL psychological thrillers are as deep as they seem to, or should be. And if you don't get it the first time around, watch it again. If you don't think about it the next day, you probably found or boring or whatnot, and do not need to watch it again just to try and think.
Movies used to make me think about things a lot. But at this point, I've seen pretty much everything modern and even older horror films can throw at me (Exception: Eraserhead). But there is only so much you can take in.
Now I will say this. I watched Henry: Portrait Of A Serial Killer, a few weeks ago. That movie has stuck with me, and I wish it hadn't. That's one really fucked up movie, and it tends to be one of those that makes you think. Only, it makes you worry more than anything.
Try Donnie Darko. I found that movie to stick with me a few days after I watched it. Though, while not technically a horror film, it's still good.

Its not that i can't see whats going its just that... well it doesn't really get to me.
I mean, as stated, i can see Friday the 13th is going on in such a deserted place, or how Norman Bates really could exist but... so what?
I still dont think that somebody is going to stab me, maybe i am not paranoid enough, or maybe i should try to look at movies as reality, instead of saying "Ha, its just a movie, those are actors".
Sorry if this is reviving an old thread and against the rules, i forgot about it xD

Once you get to a certain age, if you haven't been scared previously, nothing a movie has to offer is going to scare you. Now if you want real life, watch Henry. That's sure to get some kind of response out of you.

For me, it is not the reality that is scary, but the messed up surrealism of the imagination.

for me - with any kind of supernatural/sci-fi, the key is not 'reality' but that the film follows its own internal logic.
being john malkovich was one that i loved - not because it made any sense in the real world, but because the sense it made was internally consistent - i liked both blair witch and sixth sense for the same reason - it all came togehter
i used to really chafe at the freddy films because everytime we'd be told that something (not fearing him, burying his bones, etc.) would kill him and everytime it was nonsense - that just felt cheap

After watching I Heart Huckabees I started going on a Nihilistic bing reading nothing but Camus and Sartre.
Well, I was already Nihilistic-bending, but I think that the movie seriously triggered in me what was already there.
Also - I was in China and in complete and utter culture shock... So being able to isolation and alienate myself to total internal contemplation... So easy it was depressing.

Yeah, that happens when your not around people who speak a language that you do. I did alot of thinking while I was working on the racetrack with the mexicans, because most don't know a lick of english, so instead of them learning the language of the country, which I think should be a must if your going to work in that country(just my opinion), I had to learn spanish so that I could communicate with them. and then that led to drinking with them after work which made it so that i wasn't really thinking much... because I'm just dumb when I drink taquila. But now I'm rambling......
Now actually getting on the subject.... yeah I don't have that problem, I normally just think about the movies after, and there aren't really many that bother me. Two that did would were Audition( A Japanese flick), and Pet Cemetary. Mostly because I have a thing about ankles.... Though Saw1+3 didn't bother me much.
Oh... and Yeah Donny Darko made me think a whole shit load after watching it, it really stuck with me, and everytime I watch that movie theres always something I didn't notice that makes me think.
God I don't know if I helped, or if I made any sense just now.... so I'll stop typing.
