Yeah, it really is. I totally forgot it was a massive city though. I know, it sounds stupid but I was imagining quiet, quaint and walking along canals. That was all there but standing in Dam Square pretty baked at 3am not having a clue which path to take back to the hotel is less fun than it sounds haha. My sense of direction was reduced to "If the big bulding is behind us, we keep walking". The "big building" turned out to be Central Station. I'd love to go back though, ASAP damnit! :cool:

Yeah when I was there we had a nightmare trying to find the B&B we were staying at to check in and we got lost at one point. The worst was when I tripped up and got ran over by a bike-the speeding bikes were more dangerous than the trams!

I am normally obsessive about wearing dark glasses but my last pair are broken and I haven't replaced them. I'm a very confident person and look directly into peoples eyes and it has been described as "unnerving" and "predatory" so I wear glasses. Its not something I am particularly proud of though and that's why I didn't look directly at the camera when I took the first picture. lol :P

I was working at a jobsite in Connecticut recently and the boyfriend of the girl that worked for me came to the trailer one day to talk to her. I had to stop in her office to tell her something, and her boyfriend and I started talking. He had his sunglasses on and I said "Mark could you please take your sunglasses off while you're talking to me?" After that, every time he was in the trailer and saw me, he would take off his sunglasses. :D

The way I was raised was that when you're talking to someone you look them in the eye. Different generations, I guess, since people tell you it's unnerving.

It was taken at New York Comic-con a few weeks ago. Lloyd was an absolute gent. He was just hanging out at the Troma stall chatting to folk, signing anything you had with you. And even though the queue to meet him was huge, he was still getting folk to check the pictures they took turned out ok and posing again if they didn't. Top guy.

reading his book "everything I know about film making I learned from The Toxic Avenger" just now and it's a very entertaining read. Would highly recommend it.

She was with Chinese people and they might have have being to trying to impress her with 'real cruisine'. I do feel some bits of chicken should be left uneaten...

I really liked 90% of the food. Because I anticipated questions of the sort, I photographed most of what I ate - unless I'd forgotten the camera or it'd run out of battery.

I'd give them a quick "Ni Hau", point to what I wanted and 50p later I've got a massive portion of great tasting noodles. Tried dog and cat skewers too - cat was bland but dog was awesome. I'd definitely eat it again.

SOME of it was vile though. Worst was a "papaya" drink which had been SLIGHTLY jellied, giving it the texture of slugs. It wasn't sweet and it had kidney beans floating in the bottom. Eugh!

Well. On the realistic side, most of the country is extremely impoverished, so the concept of not only keeping a pet "fun" but to spend money on feeding it as well is really out of the question - My students didn't really have "pets" - If there were cats around the house, it was explicitly to catch mice.

While I can't ever imagine eating cat, the fact of the matter is, it's not like there are spay and neuter laws there (or the $$ to widely spay and neuter), so you see wild cats and dogs EVERYwhere, especially dogs.

There was a particular section of the local farmer's market that I had to avoid because it was where they kept the puppies in cages. :(:(


But seriously, I have no problem with people eating meat but what I've seen from China, they really threat their livestock badly.


'Tis true - :( - While I was there I seriously considered becoming vegetarian because of this - While PETA may cry about animal abuse here, it's really nothing compared to other countries, and China is no exception... To be honest, I think that it's a different mindset - Not that I'm excusing them, but culturally, they literally do not thing that animals have feelings. Animal is food, just as cabbage is food - Cutting up cabbage isn't considered "abuse," so they don't necessarily consider mistreatment of animals to be abuse either.

I don't condone it, but it's hard to argue with a culture that honestly does not think that animals have feelings. They're FOOD, not PEOPLE. Also, not hard to argue with a culture where a majority of its people are poor and starving. China is truly a 3rd World country still - People don't necessarily realize that because the cities (especially Shanghai) are so rich and modern - The countryside is just that - Country, farmers, herders, etc.

I guess it depends on where she stayed and their "local specialty" - I remember "fish balls" being quite popular and they were absolutely disgusting. Luckily, for the most part, where I stayed had a lot of varieties in terms of the meats and veggies, so any meat or veggie dish we wanted, they'd prepare for us (cooked fish was delicious, though I didn't like the fish soup - Never got the hang of picking bones out of my teeth... Another specialty was this egg and tomato soup which was fantastic... Mushroom and pork soup which was fantastic... Man I'm really blanking now - Good eggplant dishes if I recall correctly...)

YES HANDS DOWN - LOVED the noodle soups they served on the street! Also loved the skewers (didn't have the cat and dog - that I knew of - but I loved the chicken, pork, lam, and squid). Also loved the little dumpling places... Best dumplings I've ever had. Actually, it ruined dumplings and noodle soups for me permanently - Their Ramen Noodles that I would just head up in my wok were better than some of the soups I get in these here parts...

I ate the meat out of curiosity, plain and simple. I've always wanted to sample as many flavours as I can - I can honestly say that if it was legal and ethical (say a person had volunteered) and it was prepared in a good way, I'd probably eat human.
Somebody put it to me quite well whilst I was out there. If I'm all fine and dandy to eat the beef, the pork, the chicken etc. then if anything, it's hypocritical for me to exclude other animals on moral grounds. Not to say that I feel everybody is a hypocrite for not WANTING to eat dog and cat - naturally, people can feel weird about it when they have such a personal connection to the animals, but again, it links back to my curiosity.

As for the ethics, yes, it is the unfortunate truth. I saw some things out there which were really quite upsetting, but again, I had to remind myself - as Chrono says - that it's a different country with different ways. When half the country are living in absolute luxury in magnificent apartments towering above Shanghai, others are living in squalor, struggling to make ends meet. If they have access to something like animals, which will always sell well, they're going to take it and try to make as much profit as they can - ethics are the least of their concerns. Even then the meat was insanely cheap. One of these skewers was 20p. A fair price, I think, but in England that would be unheard of!

As for the noodles and dumplings - SOO happy you agree with me Chrono, although I'd me amazed if you didn't! You're right about it ruining noodles - I don't think I'll ever match it unless I return to China! Massive portions of noodles with such exquisite flavours were the perfect way to end the day.

I guess the best way to describe them is that they're kinda like meatballs, except with fish - They're a greyish color (ick) and are kinda mushy and mealy... And fishy. Also, they don't typically take out the bones so you wind up picking fish bones out of your teeth.

Talking about 1 particular movie by quoting an entire post consisting of 2 movie reviews by the original poster (complete with a big movie poster) is inconveniencing and repetitive for small-screen and mobile internet users. I know this because I access the forums from my mobile many times and scrolling down big quoted posts is a real pain. It hurts specially when mobile bandwidth is charged per second (or per 5 seconds), like in my country.

Several other quoted posts have been edited as well, yet members' reply posts themselves are untouched.

I don't even access this thread because pics posted in this are sometimes really huge and take up a lot of bandwith. Very few members make their pics smaller using Paint or similar softwares before posting, like I did with the pic of me & my daughter above, from the original resolution of 2560x1920 pixels (imagine how big that must be).

got my cartilage pierced today. both ears too. i’m gonna eventually get more piercings. done at piercing pagoda, oh one awesome thing. after they pierced my ears one of the ladies was like “omg you have TARDIS earrings. i jumped and screamed with awesomeness, i found a whovian i told her i got em from ebay..which i did and practically the whole mall was staring at me at this moment, but did i care NO

yea a piercing gun, i don't think i would of done a needle. i got both ears, and they did them at the same time. it actually didn't hurt as much as i thought it would. i hate needles yet i want a tattoo sometime, but this was ok, and i'll get more someday. these i just have to keep in for about 8 weeks, then i can change the earring pieces,but i have to have a earring of some sort in for a year at all times, and currently have to turn it and clean it twice daily

Never a good idea to get a piercing done with piercing gun. They are hard to clean between piercings and are rarely sterized the way that they should be. Putting a sterile stud into a contaminated gun obviously contaminates the jewelry with what ever bloodborne pathogens the previous victims had.

Though getting pierced with a disposable needle might appear 'scarier' - tis a lot safer than a gun.

There are other reasons why the gun isn't a good method but risk of Hep C would be top of my list.
