POSITIVE: Item shipped quickly, have been having erotic dreams about seller. Thanks!
POSITIVE: Thanks for great Rainbow Brite lunchbox. Should shrunken head be inside?
NEUTRAL: Excellent communication, but should've poked holes in box before shipping the kitten. Refunded.
NEGATIVE: Despite indication in listing, I could not fit item into any of my body cavities.
NEGATIVE: Honda R-Type sticker did not add horsepower as advertised.
NEUTRAL: Item shipped promptly and in good condition, but I should not have to bid on birthday presents from my parents.
POSITIVE: I don't really remember what I ordered. But I've been sitting in the box it came in all day, and it's great!
NEGATIVE: Product didn't work, possibly broken. I woke up this morning and was disappointed to find I still believe in Jesus Christ our Savior.
POSITIVE: Excellent Buyer. A++++++. Thrilled by the quartz movement of the "Rolex". HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
NEGATIVE: Should have been clearer that seller only accepts payment in Bhats via Eastern Union Moneygram.
POSITIVE: Plain brown packaging seemed to fool my wife. Thanks!

Rayne, do I even want to know how you came by these? Also, that is one of the most disturbing posts I've ever seen, because it is a deep dark glance into the human mind... that I'm not sure I really wanted to see. However, as Vod, quoted the negative comment made in order to teach the person a universal lesson was rather amusing... and sort of creepy.

I think sometimes people try to come up with something besides "Great', 'Fast shipping', etcetera, after they've left quite a few comments for people...Hell, even I don't know how to comment anymore without putting down the same thing I've said over and over again...
And some people DO buy some odd shit, which would undoubtedly receive odd comments...
I've seen some REALLY nasty ones from pissed off people, too...Calling each other names, it was surprising...

could account for it, too.

i used to sell (and buy) on ebay and my feedback was stellar - i think i just passed 400

Members who left a negative: 0
All positive feedback received: 1086
100% ..
there are some completely insane people out there though ...
they'll give you a negative for something they did wrong.

they'll give you a negative for something they did wrong.Bree recieved a threat from someone that if she left negative feedback, they would leave her negative feedback, just to be spiteful.
She reported them to eBay and Pay Pal and got them smacked pretty hard.

i'm suprised .. ebay is like any companies HR department .. they hate getting involved in actual disputes.

Thanks for taking the time to check out my 'about me'
Here's a few words about my philosophy on selling:
Scanning:
Unless I'm selling a huge lot, I prefer to scan my book covers, front, back, and spine. Scans are very unforgiving and show every little detail - magnified.
I think that's why a lot of my seller's feedback says 'better than expected' because the scans actually show more defects than the naked eye can casually see. I prefer it that way. It drives me nuts when I see auctions with dim lit fuzzy tiny quick cam pictures of the items. It is impossible to tell what you're actually getting.
Descriptions:
I try to give as much detail about each book as possible.
Again with a huge lot it's hard to do this so I provide a range and only mention the mint books as mint and I'll be specific about anything major the bidder should know about.
I don't want any customers feeling dissapointed or unpleasantly suprised ...It's not worth it to me.
Shipping:
I charge exact shipping only. There are far too many sellers out there gouging the bidders with insane shipping and 'handling' charges. They should be thrown off of ebay. Is it worth the extra couple of bucks to these guys to lose a customer after one purchase ? I'd rather have happy customers become repeat buyers.
I'll always work with the buyer to get the cheapest shipping rate. I hate flat rates, the customer always gets burned.
I get my packing materials for free. It's all stuff that would be thrown out where I work so I pass those savings onto you.
I believe in sturdy packaging. To this day I haven't sent a single package that got damaged, hurting the contents inside.(knock wood !)
I ship out my auctions as soon as possible. Once I get paid I ship same or next day. That being said, I accept and expect allowances given for sickness/emergencies - life happens. (especially with a small child in daycare!)
Feedback:
Feedback is the backbone of Ebay. Yet it is abused constantly. Here is how it should work:
You win an auction and pay for it. When the seller receives payment they should leave feedback immediately. (some power sellers understandably need more time than the rest of us who only list a few items)
Next, the winner of the auction receives the item and then leaves appropriate feedback for the seller.
Here's what shouldn't happen:
A seller SHOULD NEVER hold onto feedback for the purposes of retaliating against negative feedback that they received that they may or may not deserve !!!!
This is a disturbing trend in ebay and it will eventually cause the whole structure to collapse if not checked soon. People are afraid to leave honest feedback because of sellers like these. I have one neutral feedback from a seller who did just this. The thing is, once a buyer pays, he's done his/her job. If there was a hastle getting the money then the feedback can reflect that. But if the transaction went smoothly from the buyers end, they deserve their positive feedback upon payment - end of story. If you don't agree with your feedback then you can respond to it with a comment. Thats the way the system works for everyone. If this system fails because of the toleration of retalitory feedback by dishonest sellers, the whole 'checks and balances' system honest feedback supports will become meaningless and independable.
Of course the same thing applies to buyers. Negative feedback should be a last resort. Please read the auction details clearly to make sure that you aren't awarding negative feedback based on something you should have been already aware of.
In summary, I approach selling from a buyers point of view ... I learned from the excellent sellers I've bought from (xxxxxxx and xxxxxxx immediately come to mind), and even more from the bad ones. I can name a couple of those dandys too.
Selling and buying on Ebay should be a fun and rewarding experience ... If I want to shop in an impersonal store with rude staff then I'll go downtown .. I don't expect to find it on Ebay.
I like dealing with people and I've developed several friendships through Ebay. (especially ones that like to shoot the breeze about books, movies, and music :)

There are far too many sellers out there gouging the bidders with insane shipping and 'handling' charges. You're right, a LOT of people do that...It pisses me off...I refuse to buy from someone who charges more than the normal amount for shipping...If they want to make more money for packaging or driving to the post office they can include it in the price of the item, even though I'm aware that that is what 'handling' means...I'm not talking about the guy who might add 50cents (even though the people I have ordered from so far don't charge more than the actual rate, because that's what I look for)...I'm really talking about the guy who charges $5 - $10 for an item that everyone else charges $2.69 media mail (as almost everything I buy is movies)...That's just wrong...eBay is a hugely competetive market, those overchargers are doing themselves a disservice, too...

I can understand sellers who reserve feedback until they get the feedback- I did it myself when I was doing a lot of auctions, and for this reason- there's also a subculture of scamming bidders out there, who will try and get refunds even though they got exactly what they ordered, and in a timely and well packaged manner. I've had people demand a refund because the tape they ordered wouldn't play, even though I checked it before sending, and then refuse to send the item back. Also people trying to say the item never arrived, even though you have a delivery confirmation. For these kinds of reasons I would only leave feedback for the buyer after they had posted theirs for me.

there are different ways of dealing with that.... not by reserving feedback.
i never leave feedback for sellers that beg for it first - and i never deal with them again. I was a seller - never had a problem with doing things the right way.
fencing with feedback is a joke - a complete breakdown of the checks and balances thats supposed to keep ebay honest .. which is why its such a fucking cesspool now.

Rather than being a joke, it worked for me, and always got scammers to back down.
And I would venture to say that a greater cause of what has made ebay a "cesspool" is ebay's complicity in the widespread emergence of "power sellers" and middle men who foist large lots of useless junk on happless wannabes who end up with pallets of crap in their garage they can't unload because there are hundreds of other people who are already selling the same things.
It's taken ebay out of the realm of individuals trading their treasures and put it in the hands of greedy opportunists who are there only to make a quick buck.
