View Full Version : The New Millenium of Horror Tournament
bwind22
05-27-2006, 09:05 AM
Well now that we've decided and crowned George Romero as the Best Horror Director, it is time for the next great tournament courtesy of bwind22.
It's been said on numerous occasions that there aren't any good horror films coming out these days. Is that true? Well, we're going to put it to the test. By the end of the tournament, I think we should all end up with a pretty good idea of whether or not that's true because let's face it, if House of the Dead ends up winning, our genre's fucked. But maybe there's hope... There's only one way to know for sure....
This tournament contains all horror movies (as defined on imdb) released from 2000 to right now that have at least 1000 user votes. (I had to pic a couple that didnt have 1000 to fill the tourney, but for the most part that's the criteria.)
Because the tournament is quite large (192 movies) Round 1 matches will all contain 3 films doing battle in an attempt to advance to the final 64. The first film to 5 votes will win but if I am not online to declare the match over then people can keep voting. Same as always...

I really enjoyed Riding the Bullet, but it cant hold up against Dog Soldiers.
DS has my vote.
Is Dead End in this? It has 2992 votes on IMDB...

If it matches the criteria, then it's in, but like I said there's 192 movies so I'm not gonna list them all off. If you want to know if a specific film is in the tournament then go check out imdb, make sure it's listed as horror and released between 2000-2006 & has more than 1000 votes. If it does, it's in. So yes, Dead End is in, but I really don't want twenty people asking me if a certain movie is in or not. It's a pain. Either wait and see when I post the matches or go look on imdb for yourself. (This is directed at everyone and certainly not just Return. He didn't know any better because in the past it hasn't worked this way.) Thanks.

Sorry, Bwind. I appreciate you as a very powerful interesting and massively intelligent member, but I just had to post the fact that my brain is severely injured by the fact that there is now a new millenium of tournaments.
Oh, and Ring2. I know it was shit, but for some reason, I really liked it.
*Spoiler* (Like anyone hasn't seen it)
I thought Aiden possessed by Samara was kinda neat. There were more twisty faces, which is always good. The psychiatrist injecting herself with air right into the juglar was cool. Rachel throwing the lid on the well, was nice. "I'm not your fucking mother," makes for a good quote, and one I can use for the annoying brats at the grocery store.
The only thing...Daveigh Chase should have played Samara again, but I guess she got too old.

Ring 2 was pure garbage and I havent bothered to see Dominion...but I really enjoyed Wolf Creek. Jaratt gave a great performance as what will undoubtably become the next big horror icon.

Smat move avoiding any reference to the whole deer sequence...God that was terrible. I actually re-winded [re-wound?] that scene and watched it twice just because it was so damn hilarious.

ANd just FYI, these matches were all chosen randomly so some will be lopsided, some will suck because there are 3 good movies and some will suck because they dont have any that great, but this is what happens when you do a random draw. The cream will still rise to the top.

HOWEVER...
This was the WORST piece of shit I have ever seen (and I've seen Full Moon Video's Killjoy)
This was NOT a 'Horror' movie...Only one person was very quietly stabbed a couple times, and he lived...Only one person died, and that was an accident...
I kept waiting and waiting for something, ANYTHING to happen...and then it was over...
Unbelievable...

What about Entity's vote for The Order? She voted right after The Return's vote, which makes it 6 for The Order (Austin, mothermold, Dante, me, Return, Entity), ergo win sealed. That wasnt taken into account BW.
As for the vote for this match, mine is for Pitch Black.

I watched them all in order (I have the boxset.) and after watching Leprechaun in tha Hood, I was hesitant to even bother with Leprechaun Back 2 tha Hood, but it turned out to be considerably better than Leprechaun in the Hood (Or parts 1,2 & 4 for that matter.)

3-0 isn't it?
V didn't actually post ''I vote for'' but it's pretty obvious.

Yah it's 3-0-0. I caught V, but Tat2 snuck in there while I was posting.

I kinda enjoyed RE, never heared of Cut, and Im completly against movies that glamorise REAL killers.
So by defauly, my vote goes to Resident Evil
Edit - Just some typos, nothing major

Ed Gein
I like Ed Gein (ah...the movie, not him personally) but I still gotta go with:
Resident Evil

Cut sucked so bad people left with puckered heads from the theaters...
Ed Gein was an interesting flick, but it missed many points of the killer's life.
Resident Evil, well, it was the first good game-to-video adaptation plus we got to see Milla's "assets" more than once. :D
So RE gets my vote, for being the more complete entertainer in comparison to Ed Gein.
