My Little Eye - Never seen or heard much about it until now.
The Descent - I don't think this has released in the US yet. If it has, it just came out. Either way, I haven't seen it yet.
Wrong Turn - I loved this film. Straightforward horror with cool villains, good gore and good acting. I'm looking forward to the sequel.

@Bloodrayne - My Little Eye is a great flick. It got a very limited realease. I was lucky enough to see it in the theater in Seattle. You can buy it now, but it's not a movie you'd probably ever get to find at WalMart or Target. Maybe not even the evil Suncoast franchise.

Next match will be posted shortly...
28 Days Later - I really liked this film for it's artistry. While a lot of nitpickers will declare it an 'Infection' film and not a 'zombie' film, it still fits into the zombie genre perfectly and, in my opinion, is definately one of the better films in that genre.
The Ring - I thought this movie sucked. Ringu wasn't that good to begin with but the American version is even lamer & less scary.
Vampire Hunter D - This ranks right up there with Ninja Scroll & Akira as one of the best anime movies I've ever seen.

Session 9 - I felt like this was over-rated. It was a decent psychiatric thriller but nothing amazing. I'm guessing people like the atmosphere this movie provides more than story, but neither cut it for me.
Ginger Snaps 2: Unleashed - I thought this was a pretty good sequel, although nowhere near as fresh and unique as the original.

Ghost Ship - There was 1 cool scene in this entire movie & it's in the first 10 minutes. Everything after that was a disappointment.
Saw 2 - I actually liked this better than the original because the twist didn't totally suck and leave the movie full of plot holes this time around.

Slither - I haven't seen this yet, but everything I've heard is that it's pretty cool.
Jason X - It's not a great movie by any stretch of the imagination, but it is a good cheesy slasher if you're just looking to entertain yourself for 90 minutes.
Resident Evil - There are some pretty cool deaths in this and I'd go out on a limb and say it's probably one of the best video game adaptations around (Haven't seen Silent Hill though), but all in all, when compared to other horror movies and not just video game adaptations, it sorta fell flat.

I really enjoyed Skeleton Key....not fantastic by any means, but it was a good watch. Decent acting and a plot with some twists that I didnt see coming (along with some that I did;)). Far from perfect, but better than most Hollywood crap.
I actually saw it in theatres twice...due to poor planning more than actually wanting to see it twice, but still. I didnt mind having to sit throught it again.

yes, i agree, the visuals are stunning, but i can't tolerate weak acting. it doesn't matter how good the cinematography, plot, or direction is. it all boils down to the actors' performance (for me) and if its majorly lacking, well...

notice i said "majorly lacking." i watch campy indie horror films all the time and love them b/c they don't try to be anything they're not. sure the acting can be horrendous but that's the fun part (among others). its movies like the cell that make me gag b/c it could have done leagues better w/ someone other than j-louse. if you're going to do a dramatic thriller you must have good acting. so i should have specified, i can't watch serious/dramatic horror when the acting is shitty.

Hills Have Eyes - I thought this was a pretty good remake, not as cool as TCM or Dawn remakes, but cool nonetheless.
The Cell - I liked this, but then again I like most of the stuff Vince Vaughn is in. I think he has a good deal of talent when it comes to picking out good movies. Cool looking, surreal and gory. I was entertained.

Round 3 - Match 21
*****PLEASE NOTE THAT I WILL BE GOING OUT OF TOWN FROM TODAY (SATURDAY) UNTIL THURSDAY. ( I have the next week off so I thought I'd go to the cabin and do some relaxing. )
You can vote on this round, but this tournament will be on hiatus until I return. (I was hoping to get through Round 3 before I left, but there are still 5 matches left after this so that's not gonna happen.)

Sorry for the delay. Vacation was great. On with the show.
Final Destination 2 wins with 5, Secret Window comes in 2nd with 4 and Ring 0 gets 3rd with 3.
Next match coming right up.....
Final Destination 2 - Much like the first (and third) this film has some great 'make you jump' scenes as well as plenty of good goriness and 1 of my favorite kill scenes in any movie ever.
Ring 0 - I haven't seen this one.
Secret Window - I've seen this twice now and I don't know... I just can't seem to get in to it, which is odd because I happen to think John Turturro and Johnny Depp are two of the best character actors out there nowadays....

Underworld - I thought this was an inventive, fresh and original blend of old legends mixed with cool Matrix style action sequences. I enjoyed it.
Ju-on - Ugh. I am not a fan of these Asian ghost stories that all seem the same and I'm even less of a fan of their American counterparts.
Hollow Man - Interesting new twist on the Invisible Man story but nothing groundbreaking here. Still a decent popcorn flick though...

Tale of 2 Sisters - I haven't seen this.
American Haunting - I haven't seen this yet either, but I'll get it on DVD one of these weeks.

Sigh... This seems to come up every round. No, it's been determined that Running Scared probably isn't technically a horror film, but at the time this tourney started I hadn't seen it and it was labeled horror on imdb so I took it. After seeing it, I'd say it's not horror, but there are some elements in there. In any event, the tourney had already begun once we made that determination so Running Scared was allowed to stay in the competition.

I love Bruce Campbell, but I have yet to see Bubba Ho-Tep. I just moveed it to the top of my queue. I remember I didn't enjjoy Beyond Re-animator as much as the original. I did really enjoy the new Dawn of the Dead. You don't usually find the quality of the actors in horror movies that you had in Dawn, Sarah Polly, Ving Rhames, Mekhi Phiffer, and Jake Weber(the guy from Medium) are all great actors.

Good match.
I havent seen either of the Re-Animator sequels, but the other two competitors are great.
Dawn is one of my favourite remakes. Alot different than the original, but very good on it's own merrits. Almost as good as the '78 version IMO, alot of fun.
Bubba Ho-Tep on the other hand has to be one of the most original movies ever made. Absolutly hilarious from beginning to end, but it still leaves plenty of room for horror. Quite possibly Bruce's best post-Ash role.
I think in the end, Bubba gets my vote for sheer originality. Both are really fun movies, but just being a remake loses points for Dawn.
