View Full Version : Horror Director Tournament

Pages : [1] 2

I have selected 16 of the most reknowned horror directors (Well, 14 actually, plus 2 up and coming horror directors) to compile a tournament to determine the greatest horror director of all time...

You can vote based on whatever you want. First director to 7 votes wins (but if I'm not online to decalre the match over, it continues until I am which means the first director to 7 votes may not neccesarily end up winning if the other one passes him before I sign on and update the thread.)

Anyways, there's only 16 director's involved so most people should be familiar with at least a couple of their films...

Ready? Here we go......

Round 1 - Match 1

Alexadre Aja - High Tension, The Hills Have Eyes (remake), {FYI- He's also directing Halloween 9, due in 2007.}

vs.

Tobe Hooper - The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original), Eaten Alive, Salem's Lot, The Funhouse, Poltergeist, The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Spontaneous Combustion, The Mangler, Crocodile, The Toolbox Murders (remake)

Heh,you will be putting me in this thing in a couple of years.:D

Alexandre Aja

High Tension's script was a little suspect which is the only bad thing I have to say about it. Hills Have Eyes was one of the very rare good remakes and with an upcoming Halloween film, plus only being about 28 I believe, he's got the potential to blow Hooper away.

bwind22

I was expecting a blowout, but we're all tied up right now after the first couple of votes. 1-1

Aja is only 27! (Hard to believe the guy's less than 2 years older than me and already has 2 pretty kick ass films under his belt plus another on the way. I need to get my ass in gear...)

I totally expect a 7+ to my 1, obviously he hasn't surpassed Hooper in films made or quality films made, but he got my vote because I believe in time he'll far surpass him.

oddly enough - i'm going to agree with Austin. . . Hooper has had a decent run, TCM is one of the greatest American horror films and Poltergeist had a few non-Speilberg moments. . . but Aja shows promise and I'll vote for promise (at least over a disappointing career)

Another vote for Aja here. Sure, he's only made two films so far, but both of them were excellent. Hooper, on the other hand, has made a very few good films, and a lot of really awful ones in a 30+ year career. Not a good average.
