So,I have finally decided what I'm going to do.
Instead of avoiding life and playing on the internet and watching movies,I'm going out into the big bad world again.
I hooked up last week with a grassroots organization that will help teenagers who are 'at risk'.
Bascially we try and show them thru the Arts, that there are other ways to spend their energy.
We have our first meeting next week with people who are in charge of programs that try and help these kids but seem to be losing their battle.
We have some really good passionate, talented people in this group and I have to say,I am surprised at all the great ideas they come up with.
They truly want a better community and realize that we have to start somewhere and why not with kids that are heading into a life filled with prison and drug abuse and lost souls.
I can't wait to see what the leaders of these programs have to say and I can't wait to see what we can offer them.
And here I was about to write off this godforsaken town:)

I think that is a noteworthy quest. You will pop in and tell us stories and anecdotes. I'd like to hear about your progress.

Wow,I wasn't expecting anybody to give me kudos.
I think I'm blushing:D Thanks everyone.
Anyway,here's one update already.
Apparently I need to get some time in to accumulate some "cred"
My one suggestion about changing information on a flyer (a FLYER for gosh sake)
and it was shot down incredibly fast.
So I just don't know how my proposal about the mural project is going to go....and this thing is detailed... *hyperventilate*.
Anyway,I won't be working Alot or anything,
After the big meeting next week...that may change.:)

Glad to hear you've found a way to do some serious good. Too many people live their lives putting obligation over love. It's especially good to be using the arts. This country's losing its heart and soul and art coming from raw and sincere places will do it a lot of good. Good luck.

The mural project is a go-ahead,but not to my satisfaction.
Someone already had a grant for a mural lined-up but the city approved of a building in the projects, which really won't have the impact it needs and the gangs will just end up tagging over it.
Really irritating BS.
It will be Spring before anything happens so I have time to get what I want-done the way I want it.
The Christmas gift idea I had turned into an hour of debate last night...and I ended up leaving and saying-"just bring a damn present on the 21st and have some damn kids show up for it."
I have call someone to see if I pissed anyone off-lol.
A good note:We are all organizing a theater group that teenagers will run themselves with minimal adult influence.
This will be their baby-they get to write the plays, make the costumes, arrange the music, the sets, the time of the show etc etc.
One lady started in with"well-they need to sign a drug free contract and have their parents sign it and blah blah blah..and alot of ppl convinced her that they need to be supervised but allowed for this to be Their Thing so that they can build pride and a sense of accomplishment,a learning experience on how to compromise and get something they have a passion for completed.
The drug-free contract was down-sized to each kid signs that they will not use or have possession of drugs while they are working on their projects and no parental consent forms needed.
I mean half these kids are where they are cause the parents really don't give a shit.

It's nice to get a compliment, but I really don't need kudos, and I'm not writing all this to get them.Thank you though!
You're a sweetheart Pink.
Maybe down the road a few years when some of these kids turn into the wonderful ppl they have buried inside.... maybe then I may deserve some of these praises, and that's a big maybe.
I am just a cog and there are so many ppl that just blow me away with their big ole hearts and immense talent...
...now if they could just shut-up the debate BS and get on the same damn page..we could really shake it up!:D

nah,it's just some of the older folks who think they have to sign, seal, debate and then repeat...
ppl who have grown up thinking they need to go thru 50 things before they can go ahead and just do something.
And then there are grants involved which means 'government' and permits which means 'city council' and we all know how much those guys just LOVE to make things easy and pleasant with no red tape at all, they just bend over backwards to better the community:rolleyes:
I'm just new,I haven't built up my intolerant muscle yet:D
