Here are some pics of the shelf I just finished painting to store part of my horror collection.

Let me know what you think.

And not that it's for sale or anything, but I'm kinda curious as to what people think something like this could sell for on ebay or something.

It'd be even funnier if anything on there actually looked like a martian.

Did you build it yourself, or just paint it? In my opinion, the blood spattered black looks really awesome, however your Jason and Myers leave some to be desired.

And BTW- If thats all your movies, good lord man! Get collecting!:p

I just got an old shitty ass shelf for free at a garage sale, sanded it down and painted it. I didn't build anything.

As for MM and Jason, I was working with 4 colors and fat brushes so I had to make them more cartoony. I think they turned out really well. Those closeups really show every single flaw but most of that stuff is entirely unnoticeable when you aren't sitting there with your face right up to it. The blood splatters were kinda a bitch to do, I sucked it up in a straw and then spewed it on there repeatedly. (Yuck!)

And BTW- If thats all your movies, good lord man! Get collecting!:p

Puh-lease. That's not even a fiftyth of my movies. That's basically the stuff I've watched in the last month. Instead of putting them back into storage, I've been slowly transferring them to the shelf.

That shelf won't even hold all of my horror movies.

That's VERY cool!! I know you said you didn't have much to work with, as far as the MM and Jason...but it still looks great to me. I have no talent what-so-ever when it comes to painting...so it looks like a fine attempt to me. Good stuff.

Hehe... Not especially, but I do own the Pot 'o Gore. (Good eye!)

But that doesn't mean I'm a huge fan of the franchise or anything, actually it kinda sucks. lol (See my gradings in the Last seen movie thread. I think all 5 of those ones in the box set got between C and D-. But being a devoted horror fan, I had to buy it.)
Once I have the whole room set up, I'll post a pic so you guys can see my horror collection.

Very cool shelf, bwind. Did you just take that bookshelf out to the garage and slop paint on it? Cuz it looks damn good, very gloppy.

Gloppy is good, by the way.

A most excellent job Bwind.

10-01-2005, 04:33 PM
IA75-Yeah, it is pretty gloppy. It was intentional for the blood splatters but the paint I was working with was also pretty thick.

At the moment, I'm contemplating whether or not I should throw a few layers of clearcoat on there to smooth it out. But I doubt I will, I"m kinda lazy, plus it's already in the house so it'd be a pain to haul it back out to the garage.

Thanks Newb!

Nice work, Bwind. The splatter work is really good. I'm not knocking to two horror icons gracing the sides, but the work would have been well done even if you didn't paint them. However, I think their presence is nicely done up.

So you mean if it was all black with just the splatters and nothing else?

That'd be cool, but when I make the next one (No plans to do it anytime soon) I'll put Leatherface and Freddy on it. Then if I ever make a 3rd one, that one could be just splatters.

:)

No no, if there's a third one put James Earl Jones and Rodney Dangerfield on it.

...y'know... for me.

I met James Earl Jones once. He stayed at the hotel I work at and was sitting in the lobby having some breakfast one morning. I kept looking athim wondering if it was him or not, but then he asked me where the nearest movie theatre was and once I heard his voice, I knew for sure it was him.

Never met Rodney D though.

Wrong Turn's awesome dude. One of the best straight horror films to come out in the last 5 years for sure.

Cabin Fever... I agree, it's not that great, but I got it cheap and to be honest, it's grown on me a little every time I watched it.

Big white pointed heads with big black eyes = martians (or just "aliens")

Eliza doesn't whine. I think it's probably against her nature. She sure is one hell of a sexy woman, though. I wish she was bisexual or a lesbian or something that would make the colossal task of getting in her panties, a little less colossal...if that were possible.

I would have left the characters off it personally. I think the red splatters on the black looks awesome...definitely a nice display :)

I've been thinking of building one myself but molding some prosthetics and severed parts coming out of the top. That's a long time in the future though.

If you saw it on ebay, how high would you bid?

I have no intentions of selling it, but I am rather curious as to what something like that might go for. I'd market it as a '1 of a kind, custom design, hand-painted horror movie shelf'.

To everyone that wants to make a shelf similar to that (With ot without characters), have fun. :) Glad my horror movie shelf could inspire ya. :D And if you have any questions on how I did anything, just holla at yo' boy.

I have lots of horror box sets. Leprechaun just happens to be in there because I've watched it in the past month. (See the Last MOvie thread for full reviews but you'll find I'm not really that big of a fan of the series.) But still... I have lots of horror most people wouldn't buy. (How many of you have Chopping Mall or Redneck Zombies?)

Regarindg Jason & MM arms and legs, that's because they are wider than the shelf is. The characters would be like 1 foot tall if I had to fit their whole body on there. That'd be lame and harder to see with a big open space around them.

Haha. Okay, now you're speakin' my language.

That'd be awesome to paint Michael Myers on my door, but I live in a townhome and I don't think our Association would go for it. (And no that's not my house, I was just extemely confused for a moment.)

So you think the red is either supposed to be blood splatters or spilled drops of red paint, huh?

I guess it's both. It is just splattered paint, but I put it on with the intention of it looking like blood splatters.
