I finished watching Sion Sono's EXTE: Hair Extensions (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0904049/?ref_=ttexrv_exrv_tt), a strange piece of Japanese cinema. Within the subgenre of 'cursed items' in Japanese horror, EXTE is about cursed hair extensions. Normally I wouldn't watch something built around such a shallow gimmick idea, but a director as clever as Sono would is going to have other things on the agenda, so I gave it a chance. Plot: a dead girl who was victim to an organ harvesting ring takes her revenge on the world through her continuously growing hair which is made into hair extensions. Anyone who uses these extensions has a real bad day.

The production is well done and very watchable. Well-acted, well-directed, and the visual effects were good, better than one would expect. A very watchable and professionally mounted film if not hugely budgeted, and not some amateur quickie like say, Asylum pictures type movie.

EXTE kind of an odd mixture of cheerful and grotesque. It's not quite as bizarre as Sono's other films, and a bit more straightforward than I expected, but still pretty wacky compared to other films of its genre. Don't watch this movie expecting another Grudge or Ringu clone, it is more fun and campy rather than scary. It does has a few freakish kills though, so it is very much a horror film. I would say its worth watching if you are in the mood for something light as opposed to something dreary and portentous.

"Journey to the West" 7/10

Pure chinese crazy adventure which had all the Stephen Chow trademarks. Sadly the story slowly fell apart after the very long but highly entertaining intro with all its Stephen Chow craziness going on. Only thing missing was Stephen Chow himself.

It's on Netflix if interested.

"Confession of Murder" 7-8/10

An action/thriller/comedy for the people who liked "I Saw the Devil", "Chaser" and whatever is in between.

On Netflix if interested.

Ab-normal Beauty (2004)

I gotta say, I didn't like it as much as many reviewers did, lauding Oxide Pang Chun for his style. It did have some interesting concepts, and the characters were likable enough, but it lost me with some overly-dramatic melodrama in the middle, and the switch in tone to torture for the last half hour might have helped the fizzling story move forward, but felt a bit tacked on. I also didn't quite understand how the ending actually happened, which, at least for me, counteracted the suspense.

Definitely a significant step above a lot of films that lack creativity and skill in execution, but not good enough to be placed in the top echelon of Asian horror.

I really didn't like Alone it took me three attempts to get through it. I only presevered though as it has it's moments but I just didn't connect or engage with them when on screen. Felt there was no real reward for my perseverance too. It left me with absolutely no affection for it.

I would have given it a 5 but I agree with everything you say. It felt very average to me but I agree it was well delivered, presented and created but not enough to truly captivate me. I've seen much better and much worse.

LAKE OF DRACULA : BLOODTHIRSTY EYES. 1971

A bit of a hokey tale. A 5 year old girl has a near encounter with Dracula but he manages to find her 18 years later. She shares a home with her sister and has a steady relationship with her doctor boyfriend and seems to be all things Mary Tyler Moore. The soundtrack is...well, groovy and this Dracula has yellow eyes!!!

Children... aka A-i-deul... (2011)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p433/sanjidparvez/ChildrenKorean_zpsf189c890.jpg

Based on a true story about the unsolved murder case of Frog Boys (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frog_Boys)...on March 26, 1991, five kids went to a nearby mountain to catch frogs but never returned. Eleven years later, police discover their remains (bones & cloths). Meanwhile, a struggling TV producer team-up with an ambitious college professor who tries to analyze the case with an interesting theory & different point of view and made some efforts to solve the mystery...!!

Although it's got somewhat a similar premise & sometime feels like Memories of Murder, yet it is totally different but not as perfect overall; still a great watch indeed.

I had a less than spectacular time watching this movie. My biggest problem with this film was that it was told out of order which was somewhat confusing. It was probably because I didn't know it was told in a nonlinear way, and I had to look that up to see what the hell was going on. "The Grudge" isn't a terrible film. It favors dark hallways and creepy noises, something anyone can relate to, rather than excessive blood, but I couldn't find much to be scared of in this film and was bored most of the time. I must say, though, the scariest parts were the Hitori and Toyama segments. I might need to watch this again to get more into the film than I was last time.

Takashi Miike, he seems to give very mixed opinions and messages in his films... But, this was something, that I was kind of glad to witness. It was dark comedy, social commentary and it had very crooked plot.
About father who tries to make a documentary about violence and corruption of youth, but his family is not much better. We meet stranger, who just hooks up with family and is pretty okay for what is happening inside of closed doors. Includes whole bunch of taboos.
Recommended! (The beginning seems little slow, but it does not really matter, what will happen afterwards).

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/5/55/Pulgasari-poster.jpg

Pulgasari (1985)

One of the most infamous kaiju/monster movies of all time. Or anything that matter. Made by the help of, kidnapped director and his wife, who escaped from the clutches of North Korean government. I think story was that, Kim Jong-il was so big fan of the Godzilla movies, that he thought, that maybe his people needed something similar. IN THE NAME OF GREAT DEMOCRATIC PEOPLE'S REPUBLIC OF KOREA!!!

So story goes like this. There is Korean people in agony and hunger. A big bad landlord takes all their metals/tools and food for his army. There is an old man, who rebels against the enslaving authority. He gets captured and dies. Before his death, he makes this clay(?) monster-thing.
His daughter gets this tiny statue, accidentally cuts herself, drops blood on it and it brings creature alive.
Creature eats only metal and later on joins on the side of the enslaved people. I really don't want to give anything up...
So, it has this propaganda going on, which is obvious if you know anything about the country where it came from.
Special effects are cheap, but I think, this was the "best" that they could come up with.
It really was, interesting piece about history of cinema and specially kind of history, where the country is very isolated.
Not really great movie, but check it out if you are interested!

Yeah, it was weird, not going to say "Oh yeah, this happens every day in my neighborhood." Haha!

Audition was good movie. Gotta love the last (30 minute? Last hour?) when things get really intense. That was a social commentary too. I think it's about, how women are seen and portrayed/treated in Japanese strict, conservative social molds and morals. In the end, life is hard both of them, male or female.
[No, I am NOT going to start gender-related conversation, which ends in wars against side or another. I have seen cases like that too much.]

I definitely list this as one of the Most Disturbing movies I've ever seen (along with Martyrs and Blue Velvet) - What I found really interesting about this movie is that it strives specifically to unnerve you in different ways -

You have psycho-sexual disturbing content, starting with the incest scene and you are confronted with other disturbing concepts, including violence and the violent scenes were played with humor, using violence to cut the intensity - Almost as though Miike was saying, "I'm going to create something so disturbing that THESE VIOLENCE SCENES will give you relief" If I recall. It's been a while and I'm not sure I need to see it again. Not that I think it's a bad movie; I just don't know if I need to feel icky like that again.

I used to have a thing for Miike -

Audition is probably my favorite; that one I could watch again (though I did think that it dragged at the start)
Gozu, at the time, I LOVED, but I remember very little of it (outside of it being very Lynch-like)
Ichi the Killer I don't remember much of aside of the nipple-slicing - I think that what surprised me was that the movie focused on a character that I wasn't expecting to be the focus (that sentence probably didn't make sense...)
One Missed Call wasn't bad, though if I recall it dragged a bit (and I thought that movies like Ringu and Ju-On did it better)
The Happiness of the Katakuris - Er, I didn't really care for that one, but that could have been that I had really high expectations...
I remember Zebraman being just OK
And I think that I really liked The Great Yokai War
His contribution to 3... Extremes is a brilliant and twisted horror short
And I loved his Masters of Horror, "Imprint," though it shouldn't have been in English (the translation was bizarre)

I was wondering if anyone has seen "A Tale of Two Sisters". Is it anything worth watching?

The ending was a bit of a let down for me but otherwise I found it to be really genuinely creepy.

Being raised in a quite liberal Muslim community, the mythology of Jinns always fascinated me as I think there are many, challenging ways that a writer or a filmmaker can explore it interestingly. So I have been always eager to see films based on this strange & incredible mythology (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jinn#In_Islam) but after recently watching Jinn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1562899/) (2014) & Djinn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1770672/) (2013), I was pretty disappointed by both of them. Then lately, in a facebook group (created by some local movie lovers here) I found this recommendations of Dabbe series, a popular franchise from Turkey. The central theme of this whole series is about the Jinns & mostly their evil doings in our human world. So far there are 5 parts came out (2006-2014) & all made by Hasan Karacadag...an ardent 'Jinn-lover', Turkish director. Among the 5 parts, I've seen only the 1st part before and which was a pretty decent (& far better than American remake) adaptation of 2001 J-Horror masterpiece Kairo aka Pulse. What Mr. Hasan did there was he took the idea of 'ghosts' invading the world of the living via the Internet and then merging it with the doomsday aspect of their regional Jinn mythology...in D@bbe (2006), Jinns are invading our world via www(!) and it was all quite entertaining & creepy.

Anyway, though the 2nd part is available on youtube but without the English subs and I tried hard but couldn't find any English subs yet for Dabbe 2. That's why I followed the recommendation, downloaded & watched the later 2 available parts (Dabbe 3 & 4) with English subs.

Btw, the films aren't interconnected or not related with each other...each one offers their own, separate story just with a common theme of evil jinns.

Dabbe: Bir Cin Vakası aka Dabbe: A case of Djinn (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2322420/?ref_=tt_rec_tt)

http://i346.photobucket.com/albums/p433/sanjidparvez/DabbeBircinvakasi_zpse40a0d7c.jpg

Though they have put several of its own elements into the plot but this 3rd installment in the series is actually a decently done Paranormal Activity rip-off!

This is the best one! This 4th installment also filmed in found footage format but this time it comes with a more original, engaging and a better story. Unlike its former part, this time the setting is on a rural area of Turkish countryside which worked quite nicely with the plot line & to some extent, this sort of setting is actually more perfect for a more traditional & culturally rooted Jinn story like this time it offers. Moreover, as a foreign viewer this time you can also get the chance to look & have some idea about few areas of beautiful Turkish culture & their simple, friendly as well as changing lifestyle for a Muslim community. Though the length is more than 2 hour long but its got a good pace, characters & creepy set pieces from start to finish.

I enjoyed it & so recommending this to the found footage movie lovers.

The part 5 (Dabbe 5: Zehr-i Cin aka Dabbe: The Jinn's Poison) released in Turkey this September and hasn't yet released on dvd or become available with English subs.

I'll give this one more of a proper review here.

This movie almost requires a second viewing to see how good it really. The first time I watched this film, I was confused and lost, but I rewatched it, and the movie made more sense, and I saw how great it really was. It's not really a horror movie; it's more of a drama with some horror slipped in there. I was expecting more of a straight-up horror movie when I first watched it, which may be why I was slightly disappointed, but go into the movie expecting a more dramatic film, and you'll love it. The end twist definitely caught me by surprise too.

"Ju-on: The Beginning of the End" 6/10

A new Ju-on made by the director of "Shutter". FUCK YEAH, right?!! ::cool::

Wrong. This is the director behind the God awful american remake of Shutter. And for some odd reason this Ju-on centers around the hauntings of meow-boy, coz apparently the director thinks he is the scariest part about this franchise. He's not. He's painfully unscary, even when he kills people in all kinds of creative ways (and some less creative) he's still not scary. What a bad idea. And besides that i'm pretty sure ghostboy has grown since the first movie. How the hell is that possible?!!!

Oh well, even tho this is by far the worst movie in my favorite franchise it does contain its share of fun horror parts altho this story has nothing new to tell whatsoever. We've already seen the same story in the first 2 ju-ons. Only the kills are new. But not even all of them. Masayuki Ochiai, you remake freak. ::roll eyes::

The movie starts out as a horror film, but the scares are mostly scattershot. Afterwards, the film transforms into a romance, drama, and mystery. It works much more as a tragic thriller because it is very heart-rending, engrossing, and suspenseful. Recommended for Asian cinema connoisseurs.

The scene in the elevator is a tough contender for scariest movie scene I've ever seen...wow, that was intense.

Wasn't impressed by this one. It was completely ruined by the fact that there was hardly a creepy atmosphere like the remake. I also didn't like how the guy just so happened to have psychic powers in order to figure out where to go next, rather than do actual investigation.

"Dark Tales of Japan" 5-6/10

A japanese horror anthology made by well known horror directors such as Takashi Shimizu (Ju-on), Masayuki Ochiai (Infection), Kji Shiraishi (Noroi) etc.

The stories are definitely more peculiar than scary and most of them either lack a climatic ending or the climax is just way too short. First story about the spider lady is by far the most satishfying.

Lady Vengeance (2005)

Doesn't quite live up to Oldboy, but blows Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance out of the water. This is a near perfect film - Chan-wook Park is easily one of the most talented storytellers working today. He tells an incredibly complex story through unconvential methods, and manages to draw the viewer into Geum-ja's quest for revenge.

Amazing visuals, lots of twists and enough moral ambiguity to really give you something to think about long after the credits roll. See it if you haven't.

This is the second Korean film I've seen and both were equally amazing in their story telling. Mr. Park Chan Wook definitely knows how to tell a story.

The last Asian movie I saw was literally 20 minutes before I post this.

Tokyo Tribe (2014)
It's a hip hop gangster musical comedy. It's directed by Sion Sono.

I'd give it 2/5. I was just about entertained by it. Some interesting things happened and it was suitably over the top but I was disappointed because I really like Sion Sono's other films and this one just didn't click for me.

However, yesterday I watched one of my all time favourite Asian movies.

What I can say about this film...if you new to j-horrors or you didn't watch anime, probably you'll think about this film as about a bit below average horror. But I watched anime and can say honestly -this film sucks. If you really interested in story, better watch anime Another.

Hansel & Gretel, and right after-A Tale of two sisters.
Both of them were great. But H&G seemed to me more like a dark fairy tale, than horror. And about the second one... I liked the hollywood remake(Uninvited),really liked, mostly because of ending, but still liked it. Now I just hate it. How could they turn the great story of original into typical B-thriller, with unexpected ending?
So Hansel & Gretel- 8/10, Tale of Two Sisters- 10/10!!

Both are great movies. A Tale Of Two Sisters is a masterpiece in my opinion!

Airlift (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4387040/) (2016)

http://i68.tinypic.com/28m1kqf.jpg

This is a magnificent effort by Indian cinema for finding & telling their own "Schindler's List" story. But other than a common businessman turning into an unlikely hero by saving thousands of innocent lives in a horrifying war setting, both Steven Spielberg's Oscar winning SCHINDLER'S LIST and Raja Menon's AIRLIFT basically have only one thing in common...the triumph of human spirit; a selfless individual's exemplary initiatives to come forward & rise to the occasion for the greatest cause of all during a very difficult time of war. Ironically both the films inspired by two separate true events and this tells us again that history not only repeat itself through bloody wars & countless human sufferings but also it recalls the very basic core of humanity as long as there are saviors like Oskar Schindler or Mathews & Vedi (inspired the character of Ranjit Katiyal in Airlift).

I like this one more than the original Ring trilogy. I do understand the revolutionary impact the original Ring had, and the fact that Ring 2 had two creepy scenes, it still is no match to Sadako 3D 2. The cinematography is really nice, the acting is good and the story was neatly written.

https://s10.postimg.org/qtirsif4p/Raman_Raghav.jpg

Quite dark & interesting psychological thriller from India about this serial killer, Ramanna, inspired by the works of a real-life serial killer named Raman Raghav who left a trail of ghastly murders in mid 60s in Mumbai. Ramanna's story is set in present time and gradually explores his discovery of an unlikely partner in crime from an opposite end!
India's one of the most popular & best contemporary character actors Nawazuddin Siddiqui nailed the title role brilliantly and the young actor who portrayed the role of an addict cop also shines in his part.

Recommended.

Goksung aka The Wailing (2016)

https://s11.postimg.org/bcqvi80bn/Wailing.jpg

From the director of THE CHASER (2008), this is a fascinating exploration on Good Vs Evil or the never ending duel between Devil & God that fuels through exploitation of human faith & disbelief. Set in a rural Korean village, Goksung where a strange series of horrifying sickness begins to haunt in an epidemic manner from one household to another and every time that ends up with people killing each other (family or neighbors) gruesomely. An ordinary policeman is drawn into the mystery and is forced to solve it when his daughter starts to show the signs of the sickness. Now he must figure out who to trust and who to avoid in order to save her little girl.
The film takes it time for the build up and all through the end it demands your attention or careful viewing; cause this is one hell of a twisted movie with religious undertone & a baffling ending! The most twisted or confusing part is though the film time to time provides different & clear clues or hints for explanation to the mystery but when you see them trying to dismiss each other at the end then you'll find yourselves in a kind of a baffling scenario about who the actual "Bad Guy(s)" here...!?!
Glad there's a youtube video (about The Wailing movie summary & explanation) provided by an English language Korean channel where they nicely explains it for you and states that it was all intentional by the director as he wanted the audience to view the film on its lead character's (the policeman) perspective and to go through the same experience of confusion & mystery as he went through till the end.

Still, found it quite an interesting & great film overall that definitely worth a watch for Korean horror/thriller lovers.

The Tag-Along (2015)

https://s21.postimg.org/ndnzlrxwn/Tag_Along.jpg

Wei's grandma suddenly disappears for no reason, but strangely the routines still move on as if she never vanished– the laundry is still done, their house is well-arranged as usual, and even breakfast remains prepared for Wei every morning. Distraught with worry, Wei is totally clueless until he finds an uncanny video in his grandma’s camera, showing that there was a little girl in red tagging along her. Oddly enough, after Wei's grandma finally returns, it turns out that Wei is missing instead. Struggling to unravel the enigma, Wei's girlfriend Yi-Chun gradually discovers that the mysteries behind Wei and his grandma's sudden disappearance may be connected to the urban legend of "The Little Girl in Red", but what's even worse is yet to come...

Based on their local legend, this is a decently done horror flick from Taiwan. This is the kind of a flick that The Forest (2016) (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3387542/) was supposed to be or I expected.

Here the twist at the very end was cliched & unnecessary though.

Aynabaji (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt5354160/) (2016)

https://s11.postimg.org/4welpt2mb/Aynabazi.jpg

Over the years, the Bangladeshi cinema has been mostly criticized for its very weak infrastructure & having terrible influence of Bollywood movies. Experimental or making a film other than drama, comedy or romance genre was almost like 'unthinkable' & nobody ever even tried before as far I can recall. But after all the years, Amitabh Reza Chowdhuty (formerly known as a popular TVC maker) stepped forward & gave his great effort to make AYNABAZI, a neat & gripping character driven thriller!!

AYNABAZI tells the story of Sharafat Karim Ayna...seemingly a very ordinary, down to earth guy who loves to spend time with the children as their drama teacher, sometime goes away for weeks or months when his "duty calls as a seasonal chef for a ship traveling around the Indian ocean". But under this carefully plotted fabric of impressions, Mr Ayna a.k.a.Ayna Vai is actually a master class real-life character actor who works as a short-term Proxy Prisoner for the spoiled, rich & ruthless people that failed to get a bail in court for their hideous crime. Ayna always takes his job very seriously as he remarkably slips into the characters of his convicted clients to avoid any sort of suspicions from his surroundings. But just when he is planning to quit from this strange profession, one last job knocks on his door - given no chance to refuse, eventually demands too much from him...

Kudos to the director & his entire team for assembling a great cast who were stellar in almost every frame, particularly Chanchal Chowdhury on the lead did a phenomenal job; when every time ‘Ayna’ tries to impersonate the character of his new client (with a chilling score on the background) were the best moments of this movie, IMO. Partho Barua as an investigative crime reporter and the young new actress Nabila as the love interest of Ayna also nicely shines on their respective roles.
The striking cinematography comes as another winner of the show. I think we have never seen our city through such amazing wide angle, bird eye view shots in any BD movie before. The dark & gloomy takes on a cloudy Dhaka somewhat represents this city as another character in the movie.

It wasn't a world-class thriller may be but still Amitabh Reza's AYNABAZI is like a breath of fresh air for BD cinema (that has been in a kind of a limbo for an awful lot of long time due to lack of originality, creativity as well as decency!) and now this gives us hope for an exciting & better future as we all wait for more genre-based films like this through a possible, rising line of young & talented film makers in coming days.

A beautiful epic animated fantasy that has plenty of action, violence, weird creatures and tons of creativity. How this one didn't get an Oscar nomination this year is baffling.

Well, already now it can be watched on Youtube. Go do that.

The bad trailer almost ruined it for me. But glad that I gave it a watch for my love of Big G, as surprisingly it turned out a pretty good Godzilla movie! Though it mostly concentrated on Govt. strategies (at times even kinda satirical way) on how to respond in this kind of a disastrous/monstrous occasion but liked the way this time they have added Big G's mutation features along with how Godzilla evolves from a funny looking sea monster to an angry giant unstoppable force of destruction. And last but not the least...the showcase of Godzilla's Atomic rays were awesome!

Expected a little better & more action packed ending though.

Sion Sono is amazing. Truly one of my favorite J-horror films.

Have you seen the semi sequel movie Noriko's Dinner Party?
It's very bizarre and unusual but worth watching.

Also if you enjoy Sion Sono, I highly recommend watching Love Exposure.
A crazy, strange 4 hour long mad mans masterpiece. Completely unlike any other movie ever made!

And Cold Fish is really good too. The first film of his that I saw.

Old Boy (2013)
7/10

A drunk is held captive for 15 years and then released. He's obsessed with discovering why he was imprisoned, wanting that more than revenge or justice, willing to follow the leads to the bitter end.

I wasn't impressed as I thought I'd be. There are some cool cinematic effects, and it's an interesting story, but not a film you'd want to watch with the family. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I thought there would be more karate action, and there is really is not... expect one scene.

I was happy that I actually forgot what the ending of the film was. It's a big reveal ending... and it's pretty gut wrenching, but it's not very relatable (I surely hope). It surely keeps you guessing, but the pay off is... calamari.

The Mysterians (1957)
6/10

http://www.fantasticalandrewfox.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/mysterians-six-sheet-1959.jpg

Space aliens arrive on Earth, cause some destruction, take some hostages, and explain they want peace, a small plot of land and some Earth women (don't we all?). Directed by Ishirō Honda.

Listening to some of the film's Commentary of a recently released DVD, this was the only the second color, and first widescreen film, in Japanese film history. As with many films where the main draw is it's state-of-art visual effects, it becomes dated very quickly. And this film was indeed state-of-art Japanese film artistry in 1957. There is quite a bit of film beauty, and if you knew the skill they used to achieve it, you'd be as impressed as so many were at the time. Fortunately, these film techniques would go on to be used in great films such as Mothra Vs Godzilla (1964).

Unfortunately, The Mysterians is almost completely devoid of basic human characterization and meaningful interpersonal interaction. Along with a lack of suspense, even the science fiction plot is over-simplistic and dull.

One thing that struck me was the film would often repeat the same shot two, three or more times within the same scene sequence (jet fighters breaking formation). As aficionado of Japanese sci-fi and kiaju film/TV of the era, the repetition of shots was a sign of stock footage, run-time filler, laziness and cheapness... ironically, there was nothing cheap about the film, as it had a large budget (exceeding Gojira/Rodan), and it was one of the highest grossing films in Japan that year. The shot repetitions were unnecessary, but certainly not its worst drawback.

And most importantly, if you ever watch the film, don't view with the (current) Tokyo Shock English dub! It's one of the worst dubs I've ever heard. It seems to be mocking of the material. As an example, it gives some Japanese "dumb hill-billy" accents. I don't know if the original RKO English dub exists anymore, but that would be only one I'd risk.

Godzilla Vs Monster Zero (1964) a.k.a. Invasion of Astro-Monster
7/10

After astronauts discover aliens on Planet X, the Xiliens tell them they want to borrow Earth's giant monsters Godzilla and Rodan to chase away their resident destructive monster, Ghidorah. In return, the Xiliens will slide Earth a cure for cancer; but are the Xiliens performing a sleight of hand?

The plot is basically Godzilla Vs Mothra (1962) meshed with the 1957 Toho sci-fi, The Mysterians, produced nearly a decade earlier. The film looks really good... vibrant color and nifty special effects. The human characters are lighthearted, humorous and enjoyable, including a leading role by American actor Nick Adams.

There is not a lot of face-time for the giant monsters, but when they are in action, it's sharply choreographed, and sometimes whimsical. The light nature of the film tries to be welcoming to children within a General Audience format... you know, even though characters are vaporized and there is really no particular positive message for children; perhaps only producing nightmares.

You know... I really haven't watched that many Asian movies in my life. The only ones I can think of are Ju-On, Ju-On 2, Ringu, The Rebirth of Mothra 1, 2, and 3, Godzilla vs Mechagodzilla, and Godzilla, Mothra, and King Ghidorah: All-Out Attack.

I've also watched some Japanese Animation when I was younger but I'm really not a fan of the genre at all.

Gonna have to push you on this one Sculpt, it’s a fantastic flick ( like Villain said ) and Choi Min-Sik’s performance is easily on or with Michael Rooker’s or Joe Spinell’s in Henry and Maniac respectively, in terms of a main antagonist.

One of the few animes I do like is a Japanese mini series called Petshop of Horrors.

It has the exact same concept as Gremlins. A mysterious Chinese man running a shop in Chinatown who sells monster pets to rich people and gives them a list of rules to follow in order to take care of them, and whenever the rules are broken disaster happens to the owners and they often end up killed by their pets. The show had four episodes.

The first episode "Daughter" was about a married couple who buy a rabbit girl who looks exactly like their daughter Alice who died from a drug overdose.

The second episode "Delicious" is about a man who buys a mermaid who looks exactly like his wife, a famous singer named Eva, who drowned on their wedding.

The third episode "Despair" is about a one-hit wonder actor with an obsession with reptiles who buys a gorgon named Medusa and she has to keep a blindfold around her eyes at all time.

And the fourth episode "Dual" is about a politician and his campaign manager who buy a Qilin, a mythical Asian monster said to grant wishes through the sacrifice of others, in the hope that this man will become the next president of the United States.

Synopsis:Yosuke is your run of the mill neet, daydreaming his way through life, whom still mourns over the loss of his friend a year before that set him on this apathetic path of wondering what the point is. This all changes one night, however, when he chances upon a beautiful and mysterious girl named Eri that he instantly falls head over heels for. The only obstacle keeping him from his love? He has to contend with the hulking immortal maniac armed with a chainsaw that drops from the sky every night that she must battle. No biggy.

This film adapted from a novel ( which has subsequently been turned into a manga ), cleverly features themes of loss and the mourning process we all go through in our own way, as well as how lost souls tend to find each other and how difficult it is to recognize your own sadness and issues, even when the one you care the most about is just as equally in love with their own misery.

Set against the ridiculous premise ( that the title fully delivers on ), this flick is a smart and well done little tale of how we get stuck in endless loops of pointless and self imposed depression we wish we could so easily attribute to some physical enemy. The storytelling is brilliant, the actors all come across as heartfelt and sincere in their portrayals of these characters, and the over the top action breaks up the narrative nicely, all culminating in a satisfying final confrontation against “ The Chainsaw Man “.

9/10, I loved this one. It’s refreshing to find something that can carry an overall positive message without coming across as preachy or spoonfeeding you what you’re smart enough to figure out for yourself. Definitely recommend it.
