This movie is not for those who can't understand the fundamentals of horror. It is simply an adaptation of a Stephen King book that he did not have a cameo appearence in. Other than that, what else is to be said? It was perfect! The best line was not....."Here's Johnny!!", but rather...."I'm not going to hurt you....I said, I'm not going to hurt you. I'm just going to bash your brains in! Bash them right the f**k in!!"

Sorry, but I'm going to disagree with your review. The Shining was perhaps not terrible, but it was massively disappointing and pretty boring. Stanley Kubrick didn't even read the novel; he had one of his assistants write a one-page synopsis.

And Jack Nicholson was all wrong for the part. The heart of The Shining is about a guy with some problems who, when influenced by the hotel, goes crazy. Jack looks batshit crazy from the word go, so there is no suspense here. His acting is fine and nutty, but, in the end, it's just another Jack Nicholson performance.

And this is the best Stanley Kubrick film? Not even close. Dr. Strangelove, Clockwork Orange, Paths of Glory are all better. I'd even say that Full Metal Jacket is better.

While Stephen King has come around and said he kind of likes Kubrick's version of The Shining, when it first came out, King said he hated it.

Awe inspiring film and Nicholsons greatest to date but the Recent TV Mini-series is better only Steven Weber brings it down....

I found if to be truer to Kings book of course this time he did write the screanplay himself...
