Prolific and controversial Japanese director Takashi Miike visited New York Comic Con to unveil his latest movie. Is it a gritty yakuza drama like the Dead or Alive trilogy? Is it a violent black comedy akin to Ichi the Killer? Or perhaps he's made another creepy horror film in the veins of Audition?

The answer is no, no, and no. Miike's newest release is Yatterman, a live-action adaptation of the 1970s anime. Like 2004's Zebraman, Yatterman is made to appeal broader audience than Miike's more edgy projects. Says Miike:

"My stance towards filmmaking, no matter the genre, is not much different. Whatever the subject matter is, I just respond it towards it honestly and truly. And sometimes that response is much more towards violent material and sometimes it's geared towards children. But for me it's not different."

Those of you waiting for a new Miike film with his trademark dark edginess will be happy to know that Crows Zero II will be out later this year.
