JAWS genre?

Hey all just writing a paper justifying the film JAWS as a horror. One questions is though what sub-genre of horror would you class it as? It did start one of its own but i cant think of what the term for it is? It was a new age in horror with natural beasts lol

I would say its a thriller, but thing i dont get, i cant believe that people actually thought that it was scary, i was 5 when i say it and people in the theaters were screaming man, and the sharks dont like actual sharks, the first one was good but the others were just boring

Well to this day the movie Jaws still keeps a lot of people out of the water, even though science and probablility would tell you it's safe. So you may not have been scared but it did have a deep impact on most people who have saw it. I guess if you had to put Jaws in a sub-horror genre it would go under the "creature" category, or maybe an animal attack category.

thanks everyone. I think personally JAWS is a distinct and incredibly influential horror of the late 70s and treuly bites into man's primal fears lol. Will post paper when i am finished. One person is arguing that The Sound of Music is a horror lol

Jaws is a good movie, but i will continue to hate Peter Benchley forever and ever. He is a piece of shit.
