Oscar Travesties

As this year's Oscar ceremony draws closer, I looked back at some of the more baffling choices for winners in previous years:

How Green Was My Valley - beat The Maltese Falcon and Citizen Kane
Rocky - beat Taxi Driver, Network, and All The President's Men
Kramer vs. Kramer - beat Apocalypse Now
Ordinary People - beat Raging Bull
Driving Miss Daisy - beat Born On The Fourth Of July and Do The Right Thing
Dances With Wolves - beat Goodfellas
The English Patient - beat Fargo

I haven't even started on the other categories. What Oscar travesty made your blood boil the most?

Peter O'Toole - 8 nominations, 0 wins. Sure, they gave him a consolation prize...but still, the man just keeps getting the shaft.

Ugh - I remember Julia Roberts winning for Erin Brockovich in 2000 - that was what really made me lose faith in The Oscars. Incidentally, that was the same year that Gladiator won, which also made my blood boil (would have preferred Crouching Tiger or Traffic).

Sandra Bullock winning last year was pretty gaggable.

Yeah that's actually exactly what I came in here to say...well, other than to say that I was disappointed. The content I don't care about one way or another and in all honesty know not of one Oscar anyone has won for anything, I don't follow all that personally.

Well, of course, the biggest of all is Hitchcock, whose only Oscar was the Irving Thalberg Award. He never won an Oscar for directing, even though he is widely considered the most innovative, influential director ever.

Should Paltrow's win have been overturned as punishment for behaving in such a foolish manner? Oh yeah, Berry, you have to hand yours back to!

I've got no problem with that at all. Rocky is a great flick.
