Clockwork orange is really disturbing. People who like it because of the depth, filmmaking, and cultural significance are fine. people who like it for just about any other reason have some deep issues.

One of the best of all time.

Kubrick is great. If you have any appreciation of horror movies or movies in general, then go buy it.

I rented it myself a few months back so some video stores should have it. I think another reason you should watch Clockwork Orange is that it has had an influence on subsequent movies, music etc. You often see references to it in other films and it adds to your experience to know where these allusions are coming from.

Personally, i think this is the best reason to watch it. you suddenly "get" a lot of things.

The rape scene in Clockwork Orange is not that graphic, but it is very disturbing because Alex (Malcolm McDowell) is singing "Singin' in the Rain" while he's doing it, and his friends make the lady's husband watch. But this scene is not part of the meat of the movie except to show Alex's character at this point (which is early on).

The movie is more about Alex as a violent deviant who gets caught and is forced into rehabilitation and then released back into the world where he gets his just desserts, though Alex wins out in a high note in the end. Alex's world also feels like an alternate reality, because it has it's own slang and the Milk Bar is rather "different".

The more disturbing thing about the movie is the music. During scenes with violence (and sometimes sex), there is uplifting classical music being played, making you realize how very wrong Alex's going-ons are. Similar to the "ear scene" in Resvoir Dogs.

This film is also very Kubrick, with a lot of his signature colors and shots. I would also recommend The Shinning by Kubrick with Jack Nicholson and Shelly DuVall, it is much more horror than Clockwork Orange but equally as good.

Clockwork Orange is a horrifying, in depth look at a subject that was, is, and forever will be affecting our culture every day, in so many horrible ways.

See it.
