The Shining
I saw this when I was 9....I just thought it was weird, lol
I read the book Last week, and am watching the movie again tonight. I wanted to see it again while the book was still fresh in my head, so I could notice the imfamous differences better. Next week, Ill probably rent the remake/mini-series.... |

I think it's a great film.
Actually you reminded me about this film, it's on my list of 'to get' horrors, just looked and found it going for cheap online. |

In this case I think the movie was better than the book. The original, Kubrick movie was surreal and hypnotically creepy. The remake is a colossal turd that you should avoid at all costs.

One of the greatest movies ever, sort of a fan of Kubrick movies so maybe I'm a little bias.

kubrick and King had major differences over this film which prompted King to do his usual made for TV shtick years later.
Kubrick does not believe in the supernatural so he wanted to portray Jack as a guy who's loss of mind created everything .. with just a slight nod of telepathy thrown in so the boy could communicate with the Scatman character at the end. The book had the house being a 'sponge for evil' where it was completely supernatural. I havent seen the remake so i cant judge, but I like Kubricks movie for the sets and cinematography which grabbed me as soon as the credits started to roll (remember the ariel shot that was following the car and then fell away ? i felt my gut fall with it when it first came out in the theatre - not sure if it had that effect on the small screen) Last edited by urgeok; 10-27-2004 at 08:28 AM. |

The original was great, one of the best. The remake was trash. I've said several times on here that I would like to see a sequel which centered around the boy years later, maybe coming back years later with his own family to the same place to exorcize his demons sort of thing.
