Black Christmas (1974)

This is the second movie today that I have no clue why I watched, but I'm really glad I did. I had heard of this movie before but never bothered to seek it out until now. Black Christmas is notable for being one of the earliest slasher movies. The film primarily takes place within a sorority house, and the girls living there are unaware that a killer is lurking in the attic, who continuously calls them during the night. I was very surprised by this one. I'm typically not a fan of slasher movies. They're hit-and-miss for me, and there's only a handful that I really enjoyed. Black Christmas is without a doubt one of the scariest slasher movies I've ever seen. The phone calls are beyond creepy. Each one was so memorably terrifying. The cinematography also amplifies the scare-factor in this movie because of the low lighting in a lot of the scenes as well as the shots from the killer's POV. This movie even had a ton of likable and unique characters that made you really feel for them when they were axed off, and one character, Mrs. Mac, added a ton of good humor to the film. Black Christmas is a must-watch if you want an insanely scary and memorable slasher film.

Glad you enjoyed Black Christmas, Horcrux. It really does deserve the "classic horror" designation.

Still fascinates me.
That movie used to bore me as a kid. And I always got it confused with Independence Day (which was the other alien movie my dad is really fond of) so more reason not to watch it. But much more recently I decided to give it a try again when I sat in to watch some before work one day. I found myself really REALLY liking it. Great pacing, suspense, story, effects, just. Everything. I really have no complaints about it anymore to say the least. I'm glad I gave it another chance.

Glad you revisited this title, man! Good to know you have converted to the fan side. I think it's the most fully realized alien movie ever made, and I may be speaking as a fanboy, but I think it's as close to a perfect movie as Ive ever seen. I only say that about 4 other films, with Jaws being the first that comes to mind. For the record, the other movies I consider pretty much perfect are NOT Spielberg productions!!

Well I don't know if I'm THAT much of a fan, but I would certainly watch it again! 8)
*checks list* I think with the exception of Jurassic Park, none of my favorites (which is my eyes are perfect, though hardly a film exists that I believe is truly ''perfect'') are a Spielberg. Although I do really like Jaws too.

Well Roi, your failure to devote yourself entirely to Close Encounters is unacceptable.

Pffft, throw a werewolf in it and you'll have my devotion.
(actually that would be terrible and not make any sense what so ever)
