Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser

Anyone here a fan of these stories? I started reading them as a teenager and they're by far my favorite "sword & sorcery" characters. I like them much better than Conan and other Howard creations.

Fritz Lieber's writing is very evocative and the world of Nehwon he created for this series is fascinating, detailed and multi-layered. The dark, violent, decadent world they live in is tempered by Grey Mouser's humor and trickery. The ingenious teaming of "brains & brawn" with the two characters works wonderfully.

Lieber's talents as a writer are so high that his descriptive passages really bring the world they inhabit to life.

Only read one story that I can remember: "The Sadness Of The Executioner" in FLASHING SWORDS #1 edited by Lin Carter. Have a number of his Fafhrd and Gray Mouser books in my collection, though. Just haven't got around them yet.:o

Well, I guess this series is not as popular as I had imagined.

Great world. Great characters. Classic fantasy and I definitely agree, Leiber surpasses Howard in so many ways. Howard wasn't half the worldbuilder Leiber was and fantasy comes down to character and world building. Howard wouldn't know characterization if it bit him in the ass and Leiber had a great world.
