Last Seen 70s/80s Movie

I didn't think Dead End was a bad movie at all! I posted a review a few pages back, lol, I actually watched it twice - within two days.

Dead End
I'd first like to point out that I am a bit tired with movies using this sort of twist ending. I won't say which movies it was used in before, because if you've seen any of them that will ruin the ending. It seems to be a trend lately, and I have just watched in the last few months a total of 5 films with this exact ending. Saying that - this was one of the better, if not the best, out of those 5.

I found myself, throughout this, running in to my mother's room and telling her scene-by-scene what was happening. I annoyed her a little bit by it, so I stopped after the death of Richard. I'll definatly watch this again with her, as she should get a kick out of it too.

After the dissapearence of Lin Shaye's character (who I am beginning to sort of love) - the movie did drop in excitement. She showed an amazing range of character in this film, and that's just a testament to how great an actress she really is. I also love her for sticking to these types of films - Can't wait to see her in SoaP!

The film sort of felt like Masters of Horror episode - but if it was, it would blow Cigarette Burns out of the water.

The soundtrack was something I also noticed. The eerie soundeffects, haunting music, and a few really good vocal tracks. It fits things well, and it heavily reminded me of the stuff you can hear in Scream. Loved the music in that movie, and it's sequel, too.

Also - may sound like I am dumb - I am glad for the well-explained ending. Unlike other movies like this, they sometimes make you wonder "So... then where did they get THIS from?" and you have to run it over and over again in your mind. But with this, as it was shown and revealed, things just clicked. The scene shortly after some early credits was also an ace scene. Definately glad they stuck that in there, and it makes you wonder...

Reccomended.

Wow. I got no slack at all for liking the Toolbox Murders remake more than the original?!?!? Sweet!

Anyways, I didn't watch any movies today. I taped Hell's Kitchen last night & watched that & then I watched some of Deadwood Season 2. No movies to report today.

I don't know if I can say anything about this movie that hasn't already been said. You want atmosphere, look no farther. This is one of the only movies I've ever watched that I had a hard time concentrating on the story because I was so engrossed in the music & visuals. 9.5/10

Found it at one of the used video stores, hadn't seen it in ages, literally, and......you know, I'm sure that seeing this when I was young has something to do with it, but I really like this movie. It's definitely not perfect, but it has its own special feeling. And the Jerry Goldsmith score is great.

I only saw it once, along time ago, but I LOVED that movie

A Face in the Crowd

I recently picked this up for $5 on DVD, and let me tell you folks: It was five bucks very well spent. I'm very surprised that this movie isn't very well known today, as it certainly deserves much more recognition.

First off, the story somehow manages to seem current even in our modern times. It truly is a timeless story about corruption, greed and how we really are just sheep to the media.

Really though, this film is character driven. "Lonesome" Rhodes is the whole movie; it's his life, his rise and his fall. Andy Griffith, who until now I knew only as Matlock, give an absolutely amazing performance as the simple country boy as he slowly becomes corrupted with power. He creates one of the most interesting characters that I think I've ever seen, on so many levels. The cast of the cast are incredible as well, especially Patricia Neal and Walter Matthau. His speech at the end of the film was spectacular.

Last but not least, the directing. Elia Kazan really does a great job here, using some great metaphors and creating a great noir-esquire atmosphere. A slight flaw was the very fast pacing near the first, but it was really nothing major. We didn't get to see as much of Pickett as I would have liked but as I said, it's no biggie.

Overall, this film is really incredible. Amazing acted, written and directed, I think it's a must see for anyone.

Anatomy

Cool, gruesome movie. Well acted, well directed. The gore was very realistic & the plot was just cool. This was supposedly filmed in German, but I wouldn't have even been able to tell without looking it up because they did such an excellent job on the dubbing. All in all, I was very impressed & thuroughly entertained!
