Mine has to do with Halloween. The shortened form is this: Stingy Jack, according to Irish myth, tricked the devil into never attempting to get his soul. So, when Stingy Jack died, he wasn't allowed in Heaven ... nor hell, since the devil made the agreement with him. Therefore, Stingy Jack was forced to roam the earth for eternity. He used a turnip as a latern, and he became known as "Jack of the Latern", or "Jack o'Lantern" as we use it today.

I love Halloween! Yay!

Odd how the turnip turned into a pumpkin. Of course, i would not want a turnip pie.....

The turnip became a pumpkin because, well, pumpkins are a lot easier to make laterns out of. At least, that's sort of how the history goes. It has more to do with pumpkins being so plentiful in America. BTW: A bit Halloween trivia ... did you know that the term "Trick or Treat" wasn't used until after it appeared in print for the first time in 1939? That's just one year before my dad was born. I always thought it was older than that.
