Man, Bill O'Reilly may be charismatic and THINK he has the well-being of Americans in mind with his views ... but he doesn't. His ideas are: "Whatever is good for Bill O'Reilly BETTER BE FUCKIN GOOD FOR EVERYONE ELSE GOD DAMN IT!!"

But, it could be worse.

Micheal Moore, I can take him or leave him. I enjoyed Bowling For Columbine and he had some interesting theories there, but I didn't rush out to see Farenheit 9/11. I'll probably watch it though, since I can rent it for free.

But, Bill O'Reilley ... sheesh. I can't watch his show. Every time I've tried, he would present his an opinion I disagreed with, then have a guest on to argue the side I agreed with. But, O'Reilley would never let them talk! He would interrupt them, yell at them, refuse to let them get a word in edgewise, and wind up kicking them off the show. I'd like a president who's a little more open to other people's views. This is why I say that if it doesn't fit the way O'Reilley thinks the world should be, he won't have anything to do with it.

And as an atheist, I am quite concerned about sending my child to public schools and have her exposed to all manner of Christian practices. You know that if O'Reilley was president he would do everything in his power to make sure our children are exposed to God at every turn. I've seen enough of his show to understand that much about him (one of the episodes I am referring to in the above description about O'Reilley not listening to a guest had to do with the topic of posting the ten commandments in public schools. Bill was for it, and wouldn't listen to the guy from the ACLU who was against it.)

Well, I see you're just as confused as to the meaning of "Separation of Church and State" as O'Reilley is.

Unfortunately, I have to get ready to go to my mother's for her birthday, otherwise I would like to continue with this.

It shouldn't have to be something you have to UNTEACH your kids, once they are already tought it in schools. If your gonna have religion tought in schools, you have to ATLEAST have different ones tought. This christianity tought in schools while mentioning nothing of Buddism, Judism, etc. is bullshit brainwashing....

Seperate church from state activities (school) or teach EVERY religion equally and let the child make up their mind....i mean, its only fair...

Seperation of Church and State was established when the U.S. was formed over 200 years ago, and with good reason. The Catholic Church had their hands in EVERYTHING from the government to whorehouses. If it made money, they were involved. Because of this power, they were able to persecute anyone who didn't follow their beliefs, leading to inquisitions. Inquisitions basically happened as follows:

1. If you don't follow their beliefs, they lock you up in a prison and torture you until you admit it.
2. Anyone in the public could accuse you of being a heretic (ie against their religion), which led to a lot of people being tortured over personal vendettas.
3. If you confess to being a heretic, and get branded as such (an upside down cross, usually on the palm of your right hand or, in extreme cases, on the forehead, burnt in by a metal rod with a cross on the end of it), then there's a small chance that they may let you live. You were better off dead, because after that, everyone was allowed to do anything they liked to you, legal or illegal. Most of these people turned up dead.
4. Most of the time, even if you confessed and "repented" for your sins, the only thing they did was kill you quickly. If you didn't confess, they would just torture you to death.

Inquisitions such as this happened for centuries on the European continent. This is what our forefathers were trying to escape.

This is also why it is SO IMPORTANT that the seperation of church and state be complete and whole. It is one of the founding principles of this country that those in power in religion are NOT in power in the government, and are not allowed to be involved with big business.

Yes, I agree. That is if you're going to have religion taught in public schools. And that's a pretty big if. I don't understand why some people have to turn our schools into churches! If you want to learn about god, go to church (or wait until you're college aged and take some religion and philosophy courses). The problem with teachers (or schools in general) showing favor to any particular religion is that these people are in a position to influence kids. Kids will see a sign in the school hallway, or hear a teacher say something that shows an inclination towards Christian beliefs, and some kids will think that these people are right ... just because they are teachers, or because it is in their schools. I mean, I would probably homeschool my child if I had the time, but as it is, I have to send her to public school. It's the law. And like it or not, the idea that "Christianity is TRUTH" is far from true. It's clsoer to being a flat out lie (unless you're the type of person who says: "I read it in a book ... it MUST be true!" -- after all, that's about as far as the evidence goes to support the truth of god. But such evidence wouldn't even be admissable in a court of law. But I digress). Bill may think it's great to try to make all of our kids Christian, but that kind of thinking goes against not only the constitution of the United States, but every great teaching from the past 200 years or so.
