I think the Dawn of the Dead remake would have been really cool had it been titled and written as something original.

But what's so great about the original is the cheezy but sickening make-up and gore effects, the funhouse music (conducted beautifully by Goblin), and the overly acted drama and black humor.

And then the almost completely serious, dark-toned remake came along. Now I will say that the remake was good. Not great, but enjoyable. The fact that this was the re-imagining of the original turned me off, though, and it's too bad a more lighthearted approach wasn't taken.

13-4 The Thing defeats Dawn of the Dead to advance to Round 2.

Next match coming right up...

For the record, I thought Dawn of the Dead was waaaay more entertaining than The Thing. I would have voted for it & it wouldn't have a been a pity vote either.

Even though Ive yet to see the Cat People remake, there is no way that it could possibly be worse than Ring 2.

Cat People
