Fear(s) of the Dark is on the In Theaters section of Sundance... it looks amazing but I don't know about spending 7 bucks on it because I'll later be buying it.

That's EXACTLY how I feel about it. LOVE the concept, but I'm not sure if it's worth spending the money.

Anyone else seen this yet? Is it worth the money?

No it isn't. Penny Dreadful was a pathetic little movie. The main character was a whiney little bitch who was impossible to like. Her therapist was the worst therapist EVER. The rest of the characters were expendible- literally. There were no surprizes in the plot. It followed formula completely. Writing was banal. Production valuyes and treatment were about on the level of a Lifetime movie.

This is one of the worst movies I've seen in a while.

I liked Penny Dreadful. :( I think that I went in with really low expectations and it exceeded them. It was a little gem.

...

There's actually a bunch of fantastic movies now on Sundance On Demand...

One's I've Seen (and recommend)
  • Oldboy (for whomever hasn't seen this film, it's an iconic Asian horror must)
  • The Friedmans - Fascinating and creepy documentary about a father and son who were accused of child abuse in a fairly disputed case. The documentary tries to take a neutral look, showing both testimony for and against the parents. Pretty dark and awful content, but a really interesting film.
  • Wristcutters: A Love Story - I hate the title of this movie. Obviously trying to be controversial, this is just an eccentric look of the afterlife for suicides; a strange little love story with Patrick Fugit and the ridiculously hot Shannyn Sossamon. Also with Tom Waits and has a killer soundtrack
Ones that I really want to see
  • Assassination of Richard Nixon
  • Murderball - Documentary of a paraplegic rugby team
  • Right At Your Door - Horror movie of panic taking over LA after a dirty bomb is dropped.

Right at Your Door is great. I saw it a few months back and reviewed it then.

Penny Dreadful was nothing but dreadful. :(

Thats a great little movie. Sean Penn is brilliant in it, and the script is really well done. Check it out for sure.

Agree.
I haven't seen Dark Ride, Reincarnation & Unrest of After Dark Horrorfest 2006 but others from the same festival were some poor horror films indeed except The Abandoned...that was a good effort.

Reincarnation sounds quite good. Added to the wish list.:)

Good to know; I was skeptical at first as I was concerned that it would have a xenophobic inflated anti-terrorist agenda (with the vehicle of the dirty bomb being dropped).

As long as it truly focuses on panic and human horror, I think it should make a good film. We'll have to check it out sometime this weekend.
