Turning to the improbabilities there might be in the script, there have been arguments about "what they should have/could have done"... but these are really grasping at straws since there can be no perfect portrayal of such a progressively unexplainable situation. "I didn't like it/it was boring/it was shit" with little more in the way of consideration or rational insight is a testament to its power and importance in contemporary cinema. People with A.D.D. don't like The Blair Witch Project. "...this movie had nothing. Not a goddamn thing..." http://www.misanthropic-bitch.com/blair.html

I didn't like the way Blair Witch was shot. I thought the Blair With Project had a horribly written story that was for the most part boring. I guess if you can suspend your belief and really take things as being "real" it would be enjoyable but the second some teenager says he kicked the map into the river well... that's when I get off. I hated the Blair Witch Project and so did other people including some reviewers. Some loved it, others didn't... I'm an other. I don't have ADD, hell I sat through the 10 hour miniseries Shogun and loved every hour of it. I just didn't like the Blair With Project and thought it was a poorly written film.

It's a totally insult to the audience -- the filmmakers' way of saying "This is just a stupid movie and we can do whatever we want, whether it makes any sense or not." Oh, and the ending of WOLF CREEK was weak. |

he probably drugged himself. you arent thinking into this. if he could build clever devices like that headtrap thing, i'm sure he could figure something out.

And it's absolutely ridiculous to suggest that he drugged himself -- even if he could invent a miracle drug that would wear off at exactly the right time, how would he know when the exact right time would be? Like I said, it's an idiotic "it's-only-a-movie" moment. |

I think with Saw it is somewhat of a movie only moment but who knows. He obviously didn't drug himself because he was controlling the electric shock from in the room right? But honestly, if you see a body covered in blood and you're trying desperatly to find your way out of a situation like that are you going to pay attention to what is "obviously" a corpse? They weren't looking at the body, they wouldn't notice his sickly shallow breathing. I don't know, it seems like most of the time their head would be on a swivel just looking for the way until of course they got discouraged and then looked down at the floor in depression, nobody wants to stare at a dead body much less pay close attention to it. Just some straws to grasp at but it was just a movie after all.

You're right: it was just a movie. And I don't mind those movie-movie moments in a certain kind of film, where it's nodding and winking at the audience.
But SAW pretends to be, for most of its length, an intense horror experience. So going for the dumb-bell ending really bugged me. And yes, the characters would notice that the "corpse" was breathing. They were locked in a situation where they would be closely examining every inch of their environment, looking for some means of escape. Didn't the two guys think the "body" had the keys to their chains? |
