i totally agree that Chris Lee is the best Dracula.
i understand what you're saying about people just hearing that a horror movie is suppose to be one of the best and they figure it is and that's it but i've seen quite a bit and i think that Halloween was a great film and i think it's the best horror movie i've ever seen, i also like the old classics like Phantom of the Opera which is one of my favorate movies. While most horror movies usually stick to what the title is selling i'll have to disagree with you about the Texas Chainsaw Massacre being a waste of film sure the title insist that the movie is about some sort of slaughter but you have to realize that the title of a movie is critical to success and if you're a horror fan or not if you see a advertisment for a movie called the Texas Chainsaw Massacre you're going to take some interest. You could walk out of the theater thinking like ''aww man it says massacre and 15 people didn't get dismembered'' but just because you didn't directly get what the title insisted doesn't mean you should down the whole film for it a title is just marketing. and by the way do yourself a favor and stay far far away from the TCM remake.

I agree some of these movies arnt really all that good imo. Take NOTLD in 1968 I saw it at the drive in back then and I thought it was a movie about drunks staggering around. and in 1980 the movie The Shining almost board me to death.. I think some fans expect a certain level of entertainment. Rehashing the same stuff over and over is just boring. I think reinventing and retelling the story is the way to go.

No offence, but how can a fan of godzilla possibly get down on other movies for rehashing old ideas when your #1 movie monster has been in the same plot for over 50 years:
Big rubbery monster destroys major city, gets driven away at end. NOTLD is a classic. It single handedly created the zombie movie genre. As far as the Shining... Not gonna argue with you there. i love it, but to each his own. Just look in the mirror before you start pointing fingers.

Hi Vod I belive there were Zombie movies made before NOTLD 2 years before that in 1966 AstroZombies and way before that i think even Lugosi was in a Zombie movie. So I must disagree that NOTLD in 1968 created the Zombie movie genre. I can tell you for fact Toho studios has made 3 diffrent Godzilla movie series in the past 50 years . They didnt make the same plot over and over again. They have retold the Godzilla story 3 times. I like that at least its not rehashing. You know I am without a doubt one of the biggest Godzilla fans there is but I HATE the 70s G movies imo they suck bigtime. I do like all of the Godzilla movies of the 2nd series. The Heisei series movies 1984-1995 where not only are the monsters twice their original hight but the movies are much better made than the older movies. And the 3rd series the monsters are smaller closer to what they were in the 50s-70s but again the movies are higher quality and the storys are diffrent not the same old stuff. Example in 2 movies in 2002 and 2003 Godzilla is a clone. Now does that soundlike the same old plot I think not and thats one example. I also like Dracula 2000 now there is a retelling of the story its diffrent thus not the same old stuff. Now Peter Jackson on what I hear will have Kong at being 25 ft tall I think that will bum out alot of Kong fans including myself. but it is diffrent so I will go see the movie in december. btw have you read my other posts on the board? I talk alot about Dracula and other horror characters. Well I am off breakfast time.

Idont hunt around to find people's other posts just to get to knwo them, sorry.
Astro-Zombies was 69, and even if there were previous zombie films, NOTLD set the standard by which all following films are graded. There were "Space Operas" before Star Wars, but Lucas' movies set the bar. okay, so Star wars is a bad example. Basically, if the movie created the pattern, then it started the genre. Have you seen any canniballistic walking corpse movies set atround a small group of people making due in a seemingly hopeless situation before NOTLD that had the same impact?

Hi Vod I dont mean to sound mean but I am honest in how I feel when I see any type of horror movie. I found NOTLD to be boring and I have seen Romeros other Zombie movies. How do the kids say it Gag me with a spoon anyway thats how I feel about Romeros films. IMO they arnt good but thats just me so dont take it personal. I dont take it personal when people say they dont like Godzilla movies. They find it surprising I dont like many of them myself. What I like is a very well made horror movie thats it. I know who made the horror and scifi movie genres that credit goes to Georges Melies french film maker and former Magican. George Pal in his day advanced the scfi genre then George Lucas came along and did more advancing. I am not a fan of Zombie movies but I have seen a few that may have entertained me. Now I concider Mummy movies to be Zombie movies because if you define what a Zombie or Mummy is it is a walking dead person. I see mummys as Zombies from Egypt. I do like some of the mummy movies not all but some. My fave is Hammers 1971 Blood from the Mummys Tomb staring Valerie Leon. I will tell you what bothers me I dont mean you btw i mean just people who say all Godzilla movies suck without seen them. imo those people are morons at least I try and see a movie before I pass judgment. I dont thinkanyone can name a top 5 best horror movies because there are so so so many good horror movies. Even after 38 years soon to be 39 years of watching horror its tough to choose. I dont go by popular polls I go by what I have seen in the last 38 years.
