I think what hey're doing is a high-falutin' metaphor kinda thing- and equating a broken marraige to a horror story, so what you two see as filler, is actually the meat of the story, that every other plot revolves around. Dylan McDermott's character is literally haunted by his extra-marital affairs, and the wife is stuck in a marraige to a man she no longer loves and may very well be having another child with. Her situation is echoed by Jessica Lange's character.
I love seeing Dylan McDermott getting himself in deeper and deeper shit as time goes by. You can't help but chuckle with glee as every new twist to his story comes about. |

Finally watched the first episode. The acting is terrible, the characters are annoying, the pacing is weird and the story just seems off. Something about it intrigues me though and even though i'm not really all that interested i guess i'll give it at least another episode before i completely write it off.

Tonight's episode was probably the most well-balanced yet. Even the drama between Ben and Vivien was pretty interesting. I loved the scenes with Tate and the kids he killed, and the ones between Constance and Violet. It seems they've settled in a little; they're finding a balance between the bat-shit horror genre puree and dramatic storytelling.

Ahh, bummer! It got picked up for a second season this week, by the way.

What they did last week was show the previous episode on Tuesday... I think it's getting enough viewership they want to make everyone watch it when it's over the air so they can get eyes on the ads.

I just downloaded it via Torrent and HOLY HALLOWEEN that was a fantastic episode. [SPOILERS] I'm still mourning Addy, but the farewell scene between her and Lang was so beautiful... The hint to Tait's backstory was devilishly pallet-wetting, and I think that McDermitt is fantastic... Great direction too - I personally love the corporeal ghost - Much more threatening and open to pathos... This episode had both; created a realistic threat but also created pathos for the poor souls who are stuck there. I honestly have no idea how they are going to keep this momentum up for another season. Don 'g get me wrong, but - Wow - Can it keep being this seductive??? Also, man - I Want more of the Gimp Ghost. Heh. [/SPOILERS] |

I was just saying this exact same thing to a friend the other day! I really love how tangible these ghosts are; they become more than some 1-dimensional plot device. Just as this show compacts 100 or so years worth of horror genre into the modern day, so are decades of murder and madness packed into the modern day in that house. I certainly hope they can keep it up for however long this show ends up running.
