Derek Anderson and Victor Kubicek, producers of the new Terminator movies were in Cannes this week and let slip some info on the sci-fi franchise to The Guardian. When asked about the rumours that Arnold Schwarzenegger would return to the series, the duo said they couldn't say anything, but that: "At the moment we're keeping everything under lock and key, we want the fans to be really excited and surprised." This, coupled with what Arnie himself said a few months back, means we think its a sure thing the "governator" will be making an appearance. Speaking about the series in general, Kubicek said: "We were both big Terminator fans which is why we acquired the franchise. We're approaching it as real fans -- what would make us really happy to see in the next Terminator movie." They said there was still a lot of mileage in the man-versus-machine story, saying: "If you think of where Terminator 3 left off, there's still a lot of potential story to be told," said Anderson. "Being huge fans, we wanted to know the rest of the story." Also, Christian Bale isn't just starring in the upcoming Terminator franchise reboot. The Dark Knight star is signed for an entire trilogy of flicks in which he'll play resistance leader John Connor. The producers of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, which has already begun filming, revealed the scoop to BBC News. Producer Victor Kubicek said, "Christian was our first choice and he's a big fan of The Terminator, so we're very lucky. But with Batman he's already done the whole franchise thing, so we weren't sure he'd respond." "Luckily," said The Halcyon Company's Derek Anderson, "he read the script and he loved it, so he's signed on for all three." There's no word on whether the other Terminator Salvation stars -- Sam Worthington, Anton Yelchin, Common, Moon Bloodgood -- will be reprising their roles in subsequent flicks. The first McG-directed instalment, Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, started filming last week and will will make its bow worldwide on May 22, 2009. In the highly anticipated new installment of The Terminator film franchise, set in post-apocalyptic 2018, Christian Bale stars as John Connor, the man fated to lead the human resistance against Skynet and its army of Terminators. But the future Connor was raised to believe in is altered in part by the appearance of Marcus Wright (Sam Worthington), a stranger whose last memory is of being on death row. Connor must decide whether Marcus has been sent from the future, or rescued from the past. As Skynet prepares its final onslaught, Connor and Marcus both embark on an odyssey that takes them into the heart of Skynet's operations, where they uncover the terrible secret behind the possible annihilation of mankind. The film also stars Anton Yelchin as Kyle Reese, Charlotte Gainsbourg as Kate Connor, Moon Bloodgood as Blair Williams, Common as Barnes, and Jadagrace as Star. Studio suits have moved quickly to recast the role of Kate Connor – John Connor's wife in Terminator IV – after Charlotte Gainsbourg dropped out last week due to a scheduling conflict. The Hollywood Reporter reveals that Bryce Dallas Howard is in negotiations to nab the part, which will see her link up with Christian Bale playing John Connor. Besides being the daughter of Oscar-winning director Ron Howard, Howard is most famous for her roles in The Village and as Gwen Stacy in Spider-Man 3. Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins is set for a spring 2009 release.

***A VERY CRAZY AND POSSIBLE GIGANTIC SPOILER***
If you don't want to read this, skip it. You have been warned... "Alright so the main character is a cyborg named Marcus. For some background, Marcus was a criminal who was executed in 2003. He donated his body to Project Angel which was involved with SkyNet. They take his body and make a terminator out of him so he's a terminator skeleton but has living muscle/skin and a beating heart too. At the end of the movie John Connor is fighting a T800 model 101 and loses. He dies and the top resistance people come up with a plan to help the resistance keep fighting on. The resistance feels that it's important to keep the image or idea that John Connor is still alive so the resistance keeps going. So they rip off Marcus' skin and put John Connor's on the skeleton so now Marcus is John Connor." **************************************************

Director McG reports from his official blog :- "This movie takes place several years after Judgment Day, but prior to 2029. Just like it took a long time to get an HD plasma screen in our world, it took Skynet a lot of research and development to get to the T-800, and this movie explores that "space between." We have all been fascinated with the world after Judgment Day. Here it is. In this film, there are Hydrobots that patrol the water, Transports that move human prisoners around, Harvesters that collect human beings as lab rats for Skynet and Aerostats that survey all that is going on with the resistance the world over. We've started shooting the T-600 - the bigger, grimier, nastier version that preceded the T-800. Like Reese says in 'The Terminator', they're easier to spot but they pack a mini gun and carry kick ass fire power. They're eight-foot tall killers that prowl the badlands looking for anything with a heartbeat to terminate. Stan Winston, Production Designer Martin Laing and ILM came up with the designs and that thing is on Kyle Reese's ass throughout the entire picture. Wanted to achieve that bummer, rubbery skin, prosthetic look that cloaks an unrelenting machine with a singular focus of killing."

Helena Bonham Carter is the latest well-respected star to sign up for the new film in the Terminator franchise. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the Oscar-nominated Sweeney Todd star is in talks to play a role described as "small but pivotal". She joins other prestigious talent including The Dark Knight himself Christian Bale, Bryce Dallas Howard, Anton Yelchin and Sam Worthington on the film, which started shooting in New Mexico last month. Warners are set to release the cyborgs-versus-humans action-fest next May.
