i dont think they are in the same league at all ... the origional hills have eyes wasnt as graphic or disturbing as Last House on the Left, and the remake was even less so. i recently watched last house on the left and i spit on your grave - and found last house to be the more disturbing of the 2. i think it compares better to irreversable ... i dont think a lot of people flocked to see that one - or bought it on video

Just imagine the impact the movie had back in the early 70s. Add to it the word-by-mouth notoriety it faced upon initial release.

Ok,some of you like Scream some dont.I hate it.I watched it at the cinema at the time and it was billed as something new.Nah it wasnt.A different take on horror yes it was, maybe but for the wrong reasons.
Bringing in lame humour always fails unless it is supposed to be a comedy outright, like say Shaun of the Dead. The kills where pathetic and so was the whole story. Now dont attack me with this one, like i said some like some dont. For me it was a backward step in horror, when you consider Craven brought us Last House and to a point Elm Street he has done nothing to take the horror genre forward only to create a cash cow for the popcorn brigade. |

Nope, not a remake.
.45 was an indie revenge movie with Mila Jovovich and how she uses the people around her to get out from under her crazy boyfriend's thumb.

Yeah, just saw it on sale used today. She looks good on the cover but the movie sounds pretty crappy. I just got some wires crossed.

I suppose you may be right Ferox. It is hard to find that perfect combination.
As for Chainsaw 2...........that has got to be one of horror low points, but that needs to be covered on a different thread i think.Man,that film is dreadful. |

i love TCM chainsaw.
never understood the problem people had with humor in horror. as anything - it's been used badly in horror movies - but so has bad acting/writing/direction - and crap effects. when the writing is well done - humor adds more than just comedic relief .. it makes you feel safe for a second which makes the horror elements even more horrible. if you have 90 minutes of unrelenting horror with nothing to balance it .. no highs and lows .. then that kind of horror movie often fails - not always - but often. it makes the characters a bit more multidimentional. i like when you identify with or at least like a character in a film. not everyone walks around miserable their whole lives - even in times of tension. people use it in real life as stress relief when the shit is hitting the fan ... why wouldnt someone do it in a movie ? sometimes life is funny ... for most people. when fantastical films have their roots grounded in realistic characters - i find i invest more in the film. otherwise you could just end up with a flat souless movie.

Its the goofy humour i dont like, such as in Scream,Troma movies,Friday 13th sequels,Cabin Fever, the list goes on.All of which are actually humourless and add nothing to the movie.Cheap lame gags, and young girls flashing their titties while some young lads giggle in the background.
