A pretty good article at Fangoria. Talking with the producers: http://www.fangoria.com/news_article.php?id=2973

hmmm...seems interesting, but i never gave much thought as to why leatherface wore a mask or why his preferred tool was a chainsaw; for me too much thought ruins the magic, but i still wouldn't mind sitting through that. been looking for info (new updates) but just keep running into the same reported information all over again.

not knowing the motives behind the actions is far more effective than finding out so and so was abused as a kid, or they have a blood sugar imbalance .. i like the mystery .. the randonmess.. i want my monsters to be monsters, not misunderstood victims. at least not in a horror film. |

I hated the remake, and a prequel is a fucking stupid idea. Like remaking a great movie. |

more like remaking it, stomping on it, shitting on it, then flushing, trying to recover the crap, then digging it back up and trying to make it work after it had been killed

I know this has been argued about a bit in this thread already but still people are getting it wrong. TCM is NOT based in a true story. Someone got it right saying it was loosely based on Ed gein, which is correct. Just like how the "buffalo bill" character in silence of the lambs, and Norman Bates in pyscho are loosely based on ed gein. Even then its not so much based as in getting ideas from Gein and the things he did. Such as wearing women's clothing and having a suit made from the skin of dead people.
The look of the inside of leatherfaces' house was taken from the inside of Gein's house as well. with bones and carcasses lying around. some of which turned in to functional items. In short Ed gein played inspiration to TCM (and other films) but none are truly about him, nor is it a TRUE story. The whole part of it being a true story is just part of the story to make it seem more scary. If you watch the dvd commentary with tobe hooper he explains that. He and Gunnar also talk about how people always ask them about the true story and they continue to say "we made up the story" I don't want to appear mean or crass here, it just seems like there is a lot of confusion about this topic and I'd like to clear it up for real.
