Why can't we assume this mystery DP was a complete waste of space and air, and that he would piss anyone of us off. I've met plenty of people who just plain bring out the worste in others. Everyone can assume Christian Bale is some smug asshole who is 'not committed to their art or craft', but I think the DP should have brought his A game if his job was that important to him. If someone were screw up in the same way twice in one day on my job sight, you can beleive I'd chew his ass so everyone could hear me. It might be 'mean', but it get's the message out to everybody else who might be slacking. People do that kind of thing so it doesn't happen again.

I mean, you'd know about that right...all certain he had completely just cause and all...?
Again, I think most people in here are against the approach...nobody's arguing that what the guy did wouldn't have pissed Bale and probably others off too...the point is, he conducted himself like an obnoxious twat.

Maybe if you worked in a construction site or a factory, and maybe in the 80's that'd fly straight, but I'd say these days most people would just call you an asshole.

Ya, I've been called that, more than a few times. I only asked why we couldn't assume this DP's worthlessness, is because so far eveyone's assuming his worthiness. I'm going to assume he is a Union member. And if you've ever worked along side them, you'd know occasionally you'll run into one who needs a fire lit up under his ass. If Bale really wanted him fired, yes he could've kept his cool and filed a complaint. But that wouldn't have been as entertaining.

Trying to improve someones morale almost never helps you get things done. If someone shows up on a million dollar movie set, without the right morale to begin with, why should any be as PC as possible to try and improve it? And frankly, a simple 'I'm sorry I was just looking at my lights', doesn't seem to cut it. I don't care what field or time, construction or factory, 1980 or 2009, if the little guy wants to make it, he shouldn't be screwing around. Wether anyone will like this movie or not, the 'Light Guy' needs to realise his place, he was a 'small fish in a big pond' so to say.

Back on point, ya you're right, C.B. probably has some deep seeded issues, but I like him all the more for them.

Wrong. Especially in hollywood, which isn't a business but more of a club. Making everyone's job easier is everyone's job regardless of your job. It is a simple matter of respect, which seems to be an endangered species these days.

Yeah, I think you're wrong there...I mean no offense, but it seems like from what you're saying you might not have truly given it a shot.
It's not about one-on-ones, it's about treating the people you work with (even though they may not be) as remotely equal, with civility...and yeah, it's known to yield better results in any given situation. Mediation over open conflict, it's not just new age bullshit, it's evolution.
We can go in circles about it but it looks like we'd just disagree anyways...bottom line on my end is, even without a full understanding of the situation on both or either side, it was over the top and ended up a rant for rants sake, kind of very "look at me".
