I, too had knives...I had a particularly cool silver butterfly knife...I took them to school to show to my friends...They had them, too as well as throwing stars...We just compared them, that's all...It wasn't like we intended to USE them on anyone...Unlike these days...
I've got some knives...mine are a little harder to conceal though...

I "made" some throwing star type things out've sheet metal...my design tech teacher used to try and search students all the time, but yknow, never looked in the shoes. Not to use for weapons, just to throw into trees 'n shit...as long as you cut a fairly symmetrical square, you got some good flight.

I've often thought a good defensive "weapon" to carry around would be say 6 throwing darts...you ever get called up on it, they're for a game later, and you don't like the ratty old house darts. They might not seem like much, but if you can throw them with some speed and accuracy (either throwing dart, or more shuriken style), they WOULD penetrate, and hurt quite a bit. Hell, you could even have the ends covered in caustic soda...I don't know many people that wouldn't think twice about fucking with you if you planted one in their shoulder or cheek right to the bone, or even just in fleshy areas...they try and dig it out to use on you, and they're pissing blood, and in quite a bit of pain by the time you hit them with a second.
But then, I'd really rather a tazer.
Not that I'm generally inclined to use weapons, if I felt I was up against something or someone I couldn't handle, I wouldn't hesitate.

Personally, I think the throwing darts would make a pretty terrible defensive weapon. Pepper spray, taser etc. is way better.

My mother used to carry a scalpel around...can't fuck with that...put a damn near fatal cut in someone without 'em even noticing it.

Depends how switched on to the situation you are I suppose...I invite you to try it, if you want to test the effectiveness. I've seen a few incidents where people have been hit by darts, they leave big, deep stab wounds.
However, I agree, I'd rather not stab someone...but hey, tazers, stunguns and pepper spray (although nonfatal more often than not) are for some reason banned here...while you can keep a bow and arrows without any kind've club membership, and firearms if you belong to a pistol club...but yknow, screw NOT killing people, huh?
Stupid laws.
Still endeavouring to get m'self a "phone" style tazer sent over...maybe someday, someone'll come through for me...

Pepper spray is sort of illegal here. We have "mace muzzle canine repellent", it's legal because it's designed for animal control but it's the exact same thing as pepper spray.

crackhead repellant
