Ive seen a few that are on the nasty list, but the 1st I saw that I would consider is Suspiria. Not sure if it was o the list or not, or wether it was in the right time frame....

'm suprised, Maniac, The New York Ripper and Pieces weren't on that list.
"Maniac" was released but only in a butchered version, so escaped.

"Pieces" was also cut, but not that much. It seems to have slipped under the radar.

And "New York Ripper" was refused a release full stop.

Don't forget also that the actual 'Nasties' ended after 1984 as all videos after that had to have BBFc certificates.
So after 1984 films were either cut or refused a release. So there were no more new potential 'Nasties' available.

"TCM", despite what many people think was never on the 'Nasties' list and did infact have an uncut 'X' cinema certificate for showing in London (when the 'Greater London Council' still existed and could approve it's own certificates).

"Suspiria" was never on the list...but was briefly released uncut. But as the fuss started up 'Thorn EMI' withdrew them and replaced the print with the censored 'X' cert cinema print.

On the 'Nasties' section on my site there is a section on some of the titles that escaped the list...but i can't get any of the links to work on the home page.

if anyone would try some of the links to see if they work i would be grateful.

Let me know if they work. Thanks.

Another oft mistaken title. It was never a 'Nasty'.
It was released uncut in the very early days of video, but was simply refused a certificate for video once the 'Video Recordings Act' came in which said all videos MUST have a certificate.

So the uncertified releases were withdrawn, no new release was allowed and it was not to be released on video again for many many years.

Once the BBFC head James Ferman died things changed and "The Exorcist" was re-submitted and past uncut for home viewing.

"The Exorcist" was simply withdrawn and then refused a certificate. It was never on the DPP (Dept of Public Prosecutions) 'Nasty' list.

"The Evil Dead" indeed was, despite the print being a slightly cut BBFC cinema approved print.
Something that caused a lot of fuss because the film HAD been seen and censored by the BBFC but was all of a sudden an illegal item on video.
