Here is every movie that I recommend (and I update the list whenever I see a new film worth adding) :)
http://www.imdb.com/list/zIIRA4vwT5Q/ All the descriptions and everything is there :) I hope that someone will find this list useful P.s> I know that there are much more good horror/mystery/scifi films, but these are the ones I've found translated into my native language ;) Last edited by masterj; 02-15-2012 at 09:24 AM. |

Just posted this in last seen movie thread, figured I'd post it here. Definatley one to check out for those that havent seen it yet. Pretty solid violent drama, I'm sure a fair few of you will have seen it already, but those who havent should check it out.
Tyrannosaur: Gritty drama directed by Paddy Considine. Solid peformances from Peter Mullan and Olivia Colman, telling a story of two people trying to come to terms with their lives. I thought it drifted towards cliche at times and maybe wanted to be more thought provoking than it actual was. That said, it holds itself together and has plenty of impact. It's not a movie that is gonna appeal to everyone due to the violent and miserable nature, but its a solid movie that survives on some fine acting and plenty of well delivered scenes. 7/10 type of movie that genre fans are gonna enjoy. |

Chronicle (2012)
![]() I really, really liked this movie. I did. I liked the concept of taking the super hero origin and putting it in the hands of teenagers who just want to use it to mess around. You have some well fleshed-out characters, and some really solid acting, especially from Dane DeHaan who plays the troubled, unhinged, and eventually genuinely creepy Andrew. The movie creates a realistic bond between these three boys who are exploring the powers mysteriously stowed upon them from an unearthly discovery... There's the conflict of Good vs. Evil, especially when it comes to the freedom to do almost everything... I loved the acting and the direction (though, again, as I've said before I'm a HUGE sucker for found footage films)... I also think it's highly original; it's NOT a super hero movie... It's NOT a super villain movie... It's NOT a teen drama... It's NOT an action film... yet it takes bits and pieces of each to create a truly unique character piece that I think that many people on here will enjoy. Highly recommended. 4/5 |

The Whisperer In Darkness (2011) finally saw this long awaited HP Lovecraft Historical Society film. As with The Call Of Cthulhu (2005) this is another labour of pure love that instead of making into a silent movie they have aimed for black and white 50s sci fi horror. This is an outstanding piece of work all shadowy cloak and dagger intrigue, secret alien invasion plot, surprising contemporary dialogue and plenty of mythos to sink your teeth into. I actually can't wait to watch this again as I know there are things I may have missed such is the intricacy of it's delivery with at times a glorious atmosphere of dread without any concessions to the mainstream at all. Though having said that this may be a great film to get a new audience interested in all things Lovecraft. I truly hope it succeeds.

The Mutilator (1985) I saw this years ago in the horror section in HMV as part of Vipco's Banned films series. Thankfully I didn't buy it as Vipco were notorious for releasing savagely cut versions of films. So after forgetting about it for years then I saw elvischrist mention it as an awesome film last year I decided to finally track down a full uncut version (you can't believe some UK releases that claim to be "uncut" as they are not always truly uncut) anyway this definitely was and what an absolute blast I had watching this. It is an 80s slasher film so essential viewing for any 80s slasher fan. But what makes this stand out from the crowd is it's genuinely spooky low budget atmosphere. Granted the acting may make you hate the characters but the death scenes are so violent and OTT it's hard not to give it a round of applause at it's unique style. An adorable and addictive film I will treasure :)

Dark City (director's Cut) (1998)
Outstanding thought provoking sci fi-thriller (with some horror and film-noir elements thrown into the mix) with familiar faces Kiefer Sutherland, Melissa George and Richard O Brien. This manages a rare thing in that by the end you are not left scratching your head despite some of it's mysteries remaining in the ether. There are some very jaw dropping special effects, an intense brooding atmosphere, tons of gripping suspense and handles the mind-expanding concepts beautifully. A Rare gem and higly recommended.
