Just heard of a cool lawn decoration for sale at Spencer's. It is an animatronic zombie torso that you place in your yard (so it looks like it is coming up out of the ground). It's pretty detailed, so it looks quite real. But best of all .... it tears its own head off. :D

Just decorated the house for Halloween yesterday. I was worried that we were starting a little too early, but when we saw people driving by and ogling our handiwork, I was glad we started. People, I think, aren't saying: "Look that those idiots! They're already decorated for Halloween", but are saying "Look! They've decorated! Let's put ours up, too!" instead. But, I'll have to drive around and see if we've actually started off the decorating for the community this year.

Anyway, we have green slime lights, and orange and purple lights across the eaves and around the columns in the front of our house. We have a graveyard, with a guy coming up out of the ground (he lights up, too ... a ghostly blue color that fades in and out) and his tombstone (which lights up as well). We have a row of Jack-o-Lantern spike-lights going across the right front of the house and "Warning: This House is Haunted!" security tape x-ed across the two main windows. We have an assortment of ghoulish monsters hanging from the eaves, that jelly-like fake blood I wrote about earlier dripping from the top of my office window, and "blinking eye" lights in the main front windows. We have a door panel for our glass door (which is a traditional Halloween-looking thing with black cats, witches and skeletons), and a big, inflatable black cat sitting behind a jack-o-lantern (one of those nylon things that self-inflates). We also have a variety of window decorations (light up pumpkins, spiders, and owls) and those "Haunted Wind Chimes" you can get at Wal-Mart (which are really fun).

Phew!

Maybe I should just post a picture of the decor when I get the film developed.

Hey! We should make that a contest. "Post your Halloween Decorations" and we all vote on who's is the best! Sound good?

Wow! Your house sounds awesome! I just started buying stuff yesterday. I've only bought a couple things so far. I bought some of those window clingy things (a glow in the dark mummy) and a zombie head candle that when you light it the red wax inside runs out of the mouth, eyes and ears like blood! I've bought everything at Wal-Mart so far myself. Oh yeah and a cd with theme songs from horror movies for less than 7 bucks!

I saw the haunted wind chimes myself and thought about buying them. Since you seem so happy with yours, I may go get them today!

Happy decorating everyone!!! :D

Just finished buying some more decorations today. I bought this small, jointed, wooden skeleton to hang from the porch, a grim reaper that hangs and lights up, makes sound and moves when it's motions sensor is tripped, a string of Jason Vorhees head lights to go across the front of my porch, some of the yellow tape that reads "Caution: Enter At Your Own Risk" and a wooden Jack-O-Lantern sign with arrows pointing in different directions. (Holy Crap...that was one sentence...)

I also bought some different graphics that you can stick to your wall. One is bars with hands reaching out and the other is blood oozing. They're supposed to be safe for "most smooth wall surfaces" but when I went to remove the blood so I could straighten it, it pulled some of the paint off in a couple of spots. So, I very gently pulled of the one with the arms reaching out and thankfully didn't do anymore damage. I was kinda pissed.

Oh well, sorry for such a long post. :o ;)

Sounds like everyone will have pretty wicked houses. One question though, Why does everyone buy the stuff to decorate their houses? Not that there is a problem with that just a question. I remember all the time seeing what we could create at my house. Costumes, Props, Or Decorations. I don't know mabye cause I'm the more artistic kind of person, just some of my best memories were creating halloween with my brothers and father. Making tombstones out of plywood, Making the fences for our graveyard and such. Our house always had such a reputation for being scary. Mabye this is just me and why I am going into the career I am. One thing that puts a smile on my face. Anyone else create their own decorations? Here's a link to a very very good site with tons of projects to help your haunt. http://www.markbutler.8m.com/monsterlist.htm Mabye this can inspire some of you. If your mothers, fathers, whatevers, bring the family into this. Such a great holiday and can be so much more. I'm going to really miss this while living in my apartment. No yard to decorate. Hopefully though I can make it out to treat all the trickers though. Keep use all posted with your houses though. One great thing about this is the abilaty to post pics. So every post their house.

You know, I WOULD create my own decorations (it seems that many of my ideas you just can't find to buy anywhere), but I simply do not have the time (I'm a teacher.) I will, however, make a stuffed person to prop on our porch swing ... probably over fall break.

Thankfully, we have plenty of trick-or-treaters in the town I live in now. If you live in a town with a mall, your trick-or-treater days are over. All the moms and pops take their kids to the fuckin' mall on Halloween night. Talk about commercializing a holiday! Halloween seems so much different today than it was when I was a kid. <sigh .... slips into a fog of nostalgia>
