Maybe until the age of 10 I was only watching cartoons, I was not interested by live action movies, I found it boring to see actual people in the TV, and during my teenage years I was not watching horror either cause my father despises them and when they were shown in TV I was already in bed sleeping. Now my girlfriend, a horror junkie herself, makes me discover my love for the genre. But yes, I am actually very pissed that I seem to be the only one not watching horror movies as a child xD Wish my parents would have been like you Jake.
Speaking for myself, I'm a lot older than you, Goathead (57). So, when I was a kid, the movies that were coming out weren't as graphic as the movies 10 years ago. The worst one was The Exorcist (which still scares the shit out of me today). I grew up watching the Hammer films, the Saturday afternoon horror movies on TV were always the old Universal and giant creature movies. I actually don't care for the slasher films. I don't equate gore with horror. It's just gore. I prefer creatures/monsters/spooks, etc. There have been a few newer movies that I like, but not many.

Horror movies the afternoon? Awesome. I first came in contact with Universal movies like maybe three years ago caused I bought a Bluray Collection of Dracula, Frankenstein, Wolf Man and so on...shame we don't watch that so often, my girlfriend doesn't like black and white movies :/

But still, there were not only gory horror movies in TV when I was a kid, but my parents didn't let me. I think my first horror movies that I watched were Final Destination and Darkness Falls and it creeped the shit out of me. I am not sure if the infant mind is able to digest the happenings in a horror movie (Universal films aside). I don't know how it's like in America but in Germany horror movies have an age restriction of 16, sometimes 18 if it's gory. France is not so strict though (living in France now), here horror movies can be seen mostly with age of 12.

AWWWW Thanks! Lol, my dad got me started early and I turned out pretty darn good, figured it was best for me to do the same for my boys.

I miss Saturday TV so much. I remember sitting in the living room watching Saturday morning cartoons and then watching some of the classics during the day. To go along with that, Up All Night on USA when I was a teenager was THE SHIT! Please tell me some of you remember that?

Yeah, I miss Saturday afternoon TV, too. Although, this new channel, Comet, seems to be picking up the slack.

Up All Night isn't ringing a bell. When was it on? If it was the 80s, I was too busy protecting my country and getting drunk every night.

Yes I remember watching slashers, Planet of the Apes, sci-fi etc. interspersed with 1-900 number ads. It would end at 5am so I wouldn't be worth a lick on Sunday.
