Everyone's entitled to their opinion, Bob.

No matter how wrong it may be.

I'm really regretting defending Ben Affleck

And in my defense of liking the movie better then the book, even Stephen King himself doesn't like the book.

I'm also with you and WickerFan I think Brian De Palma did an awesome job of Carrie. However I don't have confidence in Affleck directing a version of The Stand I adored the miniseries which was very faithful given how some adaptations were completely changed. Considering the TV movie was so faithful I suspect he will try something completely different with it and that worries me. I thought The Town was a very average movie so on that basis I'm not filled with confidence.

Look, I'm not saying that I don't like the movie, I can't understand liking it better than the book. Writers are always more critical of their own work than anyone else. Brian DePalma is a great director but I have never watched a movie that was better than the book, excluding The Shawshank Redemption and that is only because it added to what the novella was and didn't take anything away from it.

The films of The Shining, Carrie, Misery and Christine are all better than the books.

I actually liked The Shawshank Redemption novella better then the movie. There are plenty of movies i like better then the book. It's all about who does it better and how it comes across. Sometimes the visual stimulation helps, other times the written word and the imagination creates a better picture. For the most part, i prefer the book versions but every now and then i like the movie better. Carrie just felt lacking and i didnt like the back and forth newspaper style it had going on.

I agree with you except for Misery. The book gave a lot more information and added a lot more depth and sorrow then the movie because it had more time to do it. I also didnt like the inclusion of the cop storyline. It just seemed pointless. Also even though Kathy Bates's performance was incredible, Annie Wilkes is in my opinion one of King's best villains and therefore it was hard to measure up.

To add to your list though, i'll say Pet Semetary and Thinner which i'm sure i've mentioned many times before when talking about which of his movies are better then the books.

I thought Pet Sematary was on par with the book. I like both equally really.

I liked the film version of Misery better just because Kathy Bates really amplified the character.

The Running Man film had a more interesting concept than the short story.

On a whole Stephen King's work has had a better run with being adapted to film than other authors.

So hopefully this will be as good as The Mist. That was the last really good film adaptation of his work in awhile. I prefer his earlier books so it'll be good seeing another one brought to life on the screen.
