I was on set for Hostel 3. I have to admit - I didn't mind it
It was Hostel-lite. But I still thought it was interesting

Also, overall it just seemed pretty amateur, the sets felt cheap, it had no child gangs shaking victims down for candy, and minus the vast, dingy, war-destructed factory locations, all it really had was a bit of mildly creative torture. Meh. |

It was shot in a really cool building - a huge Masonic temple in Detroit city
As far as demonizing foreign cultures goes - I saw it as a parallel to 911 - "it can't happen here" I liked that idea. I also liked the twist at the beginning It was definitely less vicious but I didn't mind do much It's also kind of fun to watch knowing you were stsnding right there I was inside one of the holding tanks/cages while they filmed the escape right across from me in the others :) It adds a fun perspective

The older i get - the less i appreciate the - 'so bad they're good films'.
you would think that Manborg would fall into that category but it doesn't - it was a brilliant parody..

I was pretty disappointed considering Deodato's other good film goes by the name of Cannibal Holocaust. Books could be written about that film, while Edge of the Park, to me was a fairly mediocre snippet of throwaway exploitation.
My biggest two beefs were that I thought it was annoying and far-fetched that the women got sexually involved with the attackers. I also thought the twist ending was ridiculous, way beyond the limits of credibility. (SPOILERS) There's no way they would put themselves at that level of risk, resulting in rape, torture and death, just to pull off that revenge gag. If they wanted to get revenge, there are much easier and safer ways to do it. That kinda ruined it for me. (/SPOILERS) However, from a purely exploitation film, no-logic-required standpoint, I agree I'm severely low-balling this classic. The fact that I would be happy to watch it again, even looking forward to it, means I rated it too low. |
