I'm not saying Craig isn't great. I'm just saying it's interesting....

that is weird - because Flemming didnt portray Bond that way in the books ...
he was written as cruel, not an attractive man .. and definately brutal.

weird how Flemming would write him one way but want to see him on film another ..

it is not unusual for a writer to not be able to exactly convey what they think on paper. Sometimes, the words you want escape you, other times, what ends up working in the story is not what you originally wanted.

he wrote a hell of a lot of these books .. and he was very specific in them..

i suspect he liked Nivin and wanted a bankable star n the role.
there were probably different expectations between the printed word and the world of film as well.

folks today are much more demanding..

Roger Moores take on the new Bond

NEW YORK (Reuters) - Movie audiences nowadays expect scenes of graphic violence in James Bond movies, unlike when Roger Moore played the super spy with a tongue-in-cheek humor, the actor believes.

"I am happy to have done it, but I'm sad that it has turned so violent," Moore said before "Quantum of Solace," starring Daniel Craig as a darker Agent 007, opens in North America on Friday.

"That's keeping up with the times, it's what cinema-goers seem to want and it's proved by the box-office figures," Moore told Reuters in an interview about his memoir, "My Word is My Bond."

The new Bond film opened in London on Oct 31, breaking the British weekend box-office record with a gross of $25 million. It has taken in more than $106 million worldwide so far.

Moore, 81, recalled being appalled at the violence in "A View to a Kill," the 1985 movie which was the last of the seven in which he played Bond. "That wasn't Bond," he said.

In his book, Moore writes of his distaste for guns, ever since he was shot in the leg by a friend with a BB gun as a teenager.

While making "The Man With the Golden Gun," director Guy Hamilton wanted Bond to be tougher and had him threaten to break Maud Adams' character's arm to get information, he writes. "That sort of characterization didn't sit well with me, but Guy was keen to make my Bond a little more ruthless.

"I suggested my Bond would have charmed the information out of her by bedding her first. My Bond was a lover and a giggler, but I went along with Guy," the British actor wrote.

Moore has not yet seen "Quantum of Solace," but based on Craig's first Bond film, "Casino Royale," believes it will be a success in North America too.

"Daniel has done one Bond and he was in 'Munich' and ... he's done a lot of stuff, but his face, after one Bond film, that's all he needs. He is Bond."

so roger moore preferred a lighter, fluffier bond.

i dont think this had jack shit to do with what audiences want re. violence ... i think its what they want re. something true to the origional character.

something had to bring the franchise back to life..

I don't think so. Think how few of the people nowadays who watch the Bond films have read any of the books. I know nobody who has ever read a James Bond book. I think I agree with him. Not that it should be happier and funnier, but that it suits the time. With all of the current action films, this is just what the people want. And in his day, the Bond he played was what people wanted. At the end of the day, the studio wouldn't be too bothered if it wasn't even the slightest bit close to the book if they thought they'd make loads of money.

And I have to say, I'm surprised at how few people liked Lazenby. I thought he was perfect in the role and should have done more.

I never cared for lazenby. He just didnt have the look or the sound to me. Plus ohmss was too different from the rest when I saw it. I like how it changed all subsequent movies, but aside from that....

I really liked the theme tune for On Her Majesty's Secret Service. Something I can't say for Quantum.

For the first time in my life..I'm thinking of going abroad just for 1 or 2 days to see a film in the theater and that film is QoS. Cause the authorities here doesn't allow the theaters to show any newly released foreign films for some stupid reasons, moreover the theaters here are also can't afford to bring a new movie.

Anyways, I'm quite seriously planning to make a trip to India (Kolkata) in the first week of next month with some friend just to see this new bond film.

NOT WORTH IT! How much does a cinema ticket cost? How much does a plane ticket cost. Just drive somewhere that will let you or download it off the internet.
