do you think the current nod to the old grindhouse flicks will continue and influence the immediate future of horror films, or do you think it will be a blip on the radar ?

i'm not sure if it will become the new level of acceptance or if it will spur on some kind of morality force backlash.

usually this kind of thing will exist for a while before the powers that be get wind of it (being the least plugged in part of the populace) They'll hear something from a senator who's wife caught their kid watching hostel

No, I think people are toughening up - which is a good thing, product of a harsher and crueller world or not.

I think the distraction of internet 'depravity' has quietened the campaigners so far as violent films go, particularly as Hollywood is now churning out grade-A nastiness with a sheen that the old gorefests couldn't afford. Now there is morality and purpose in the terror. Which is bullshit, but boils down to the fact that the casual observer refuses to see any merits behind a cheaply made sicko since they have to work harder than they would watching the same story filmed by a cool new Hollywood director. Give the blood & guts some gloss and a few decent actors, and all of a sudden it's fine.

I'm glad there are some PG-13 horror films. I don't watch them but it does allow people with weak stomachs or those who are scared easily to get into and support the genre. Some of them can even be decent films.

EDIT: To clarify I'm glad there are some PG-13 horror films but not particularly excited about the teenage/self-aware/mtv music video style horror flicks that have come out lately.

well i just watched "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" and the only thing i can do is...shake my head in shame.

The basic plotline to the movie is exactly the same as the first one....group of kids accidently kill someone and then either that someone or someone out for revenge comes back and starts killing off the kids....on year later on the anniversary.

The acting was crappy, the storyline had no imagination, the death scenes were under par and the gore was less the bizmall (as ive said many times before i suck at spelling). The only good thing about this movie was the cinematography. It was really down well (a bit MTV for Despares Taste) but i found it suited the movie quite well. The opening scene that introduces you to the small "hicksville" town is done very well with a lot of overlaying and cuts back and forth, in very quick sucsession.

It still wasnt worth watching though....the bf and i got so bored we didnt even watch the ending. Well it was on....but we werent watching. By the time it came to the end fight, the one between the last or two last characters and the villian, "the showdown" if you will, i was about ready to write a scathing letter to the director and/or writer. [Spoiler Alert!] Although in most teenybopper horror movies the killer is the same character in each movie come back from the death of the first or previous movie (excluding Scream as it was different characters, but in some way connected) this movie took it just a little too far. Not only was it the same killer from the first movie (Ben Willus) but he wasnt back from the dead. He was the living dead. And i mean decaying and all.

Now i dont think i like the fact that they used Ben as the killer for this third movie as it had nothing to do with the other two movies...it only connected them by newspaper clippings of the murders from the first two movies. The fisherman killer who bares a hook comes in as an Urban Myth...another bad move i say. I would have believed it a lot more if the killer had been one of the family of the dead guy from the start of the movie, or even the dead guy come back from the dead (aka like the first two movies out for revenge). But Ben Willus moving out into Jason and Freddy territory is just class jam.

Im sorry to all those fans out there who have seen and fallen in love with this movie, but for me, i could have lived without it. It did nothing for me, and kind of ruined my opinion of the rest of the movies. Dont get me wrong i still love IKWYDLS, i own the second and am hoping to buy the first one soon. But there is no third on in my opinion, just a very BAD remake of the first.

Did i mention the acting sucked!

Ciao
